Banana no Nana

On the world that consists of a single giant continent called Dokkanon, most people have some kind of special ability. Those who have a high-ranking ability, such as the ability to control water, are respected and granted much power. Those with low-ranking abilities, such as Nana, who controls bananas, and her best friend Ringo, who has super-powerful legs, have very little power in society. When Nana and Ringo were kids, they were awed by stories from Ringo's adventurer father about a land called Oz, where a god lived who could make any wish come true. Nana and Ringo swore that they would go adventuring together when they were adults. But as time went by, Ringo's father vanished while adventuring, and Ringo became much more aware of the social stigma associated with adventurers. Will the two of them find the strength and courage to follow through with their promise?

the manga is kinda silly but i like remind me of onepiece early chapter but sillier.
i like how the mangaka insert some sort of parodies of other anime/manga/game which somehow explained the silliness..

with 3 chapter out i judge this manga is worthy to be in my read list...

I feel the idea and the humor were worth looking into. I feel bad for the author who had to speed through (that doesn't do it justice more like super human squish a billion things in) all his plans in the last volume. It made me laugh and I would have enjoyed reading the entire series at the original pace the artist would have wanted. But I must say....BEST SEX SCENE EVER

Having never read One Piece, I will not comment on any comparisons with that work.

This had some good comedy, yuri content, and some cool action scenes all quite decently illustrated, but the fact is that this was axed when it definitely had the potential to be a sprawling long runner. Of course, the mangaka definitely had issues with plotting and setting (i.e. rushing through everything seemingly without a proper, overarching plan for the worldbuilding and adventure) which made even the less rushed parts seem not so compelling, but given time I think this issue could have been sorted out.

Personally, I actually really liked the ending.

The abrupt time skip and extreme power leveling leading up to smashing the moon into deep space was so ludicrous that it ended up being enjoyable, if only for the sheer conclusiveness of it. Obviously lots of plot threads outside of the core adventure were left unfinished, but ultimately the massively definitive ending is probably the best one could hope for given that the this series was axed even though it was obviously intended to be much longer.

It's kind of funny that some of the other reviews mentioned it too because I kind of think this is ripping off One Piece a bit, except with girls and a bit of yuri. That's not nessicarily a bad thing, because Banana no Nana does a pretty good job of making an entertaining world that stands out on its own even if it does kind of borrow some elements from a more popular story. The creatures in particular feel really inspired by Oda's works while still being unique since they're generally a bit more serious. Overall I really enjoyed this series, the characters were likable and there were some pretty creative powers at times.

There are some problems though, some pretty big. Here's one of the biggest issues for me: early on they set up that everyone has a special ability, and the stronger your ability the bigger the downside. That's fine and for a while the author keeps this up, but later on there's people with stupidly powerful abilities and they don't seem to have any penalties at all. Kinda makes me think that the author couldn't keep coming up with new interesting gimmicks. The only other major problem for me is the fact that ithe story was discontinued. I would have really liked to see this play out in full because while the ending is at least an actual things-get-resolved ending (well for the most part) so many plot threads are just left completely undone.

I recommend giving this a shot. It was pretty fun, short, kind of unexpected and the ending was satisfying while also being bittersweet.

It was a very good manga from all that I've read of it but sadly it was axed because of a personal problem by the author and not cause of popularity. Still I loved it it had comedy and it had some very nice artwork. Shame that it seems all the good manga series aren't popular in japan these days.

Like below posters and some people elsewhere have said, it's comparable to One Piece. Adventurers having ability fights, regions where government authority doesn't extend well and might makes right, a protagonist who is dumb and good-natured yet capable of righteous anger, with unexpected endurance and power. In search of "Oz" rather than One Piece. However, with the 3 chapters currently out, the story's initial potential seems to have completely disappeared.

Spoiler: I'm about to vaguely describe those of the story's plot elements which are presented in chapter 1, and name a couple examples from chapters 2 and 3.

To sum up my opinion: I could imagine the author thinking, "What kind of manga should I write? I could have fun with a crazy world like One Piece. Make Luffy female... Have a father character who's disappeared a la HxH... Throw in yuri subtext and various elements from otaku culture... Some themes of loss and a cruel society that wishes for people to forsake their dreams, to make the readers feel and sympathize with the characters' plight..." And writing chapter 1 based on that, and then from chapter 2 onward just throwing in random stuff they encounter in their travels, not realizing that doing so is too lazy and something that isn't worthy of comparison to One Piece... The series is still fun to read, but not something I feel passion toward. Also takes itself a bit too unseriously at times (I can't feel plot tension toward an attack from a wild animal whose natural prey is "little girls that like bananas"...) And a country of maids, etc.

There may be persistent elements that appeal to you, and the first chapter is in some ways worth reading just for itself, but later chapters so far don't have as many different types of appeal as the first chapter.

By the way, I want to emphasize that many people are able to enjoy Banana no Nana for the humor and various quirky story/plot elements and characters (which are the persistent elements I just described), but others may be affected by what I described. (Readers should understand themselves and whether what I've described would be relevant to them.)

You're right about the 'Best sex scene ever!' XD The last few chapters were a wild read with a lot of fun surprises and light drama. I guess the author wanted to write an epic, but had to condense things. The ending yuri hits my soft spot too.
