Quiet dignity [mild spoilers, best read after finishing]

I like Nananan Kiriko's simplistic, clean art style, and I like her storytelling even more. The two chapters of the four out of this manga were translated by Lilicious, a yuri/shoujo-ai scanlation group.

Color color made me shed a tear or two just now when I reread it. It's simple and there is lots left unsaid, but the things that are said convey the feelings of the characters perfectly. Really, the color thing only added to the idea that the narrating character brought up the sorts of gender issues that, hell, even I have. The idea of being boyish, or girly... both exist in tandem, and in constant struggle with one another. I suppose it's not for everyone, but those of us who identify with such things are left touched that someone gets it.

Kisses is another simply told story, with no actual dialogue- just narration and quotes from the other character. I think if you stop and think, both of these stories convey deep feelings and everyday situations of severe emotional power that often get overlooked. The idea of brushing your teeth so hard you choke up blood, and continuing on, all for the one purpose... it's an inventive way to convey feelings, even if they go unnoticed.

Sweet and poignant stories but a little too short... my feeling after reading them was: "meh" *shrug* (i.e., not a waste of time reading them but you're not losing anything by skipping over these short stories).
