From DokiDoki: Fujimoto Hiroya is at the top of his class. He's the Student Council Vice President, spends all his time studying, and is the idol of all the "good girls". But the truth is, he'd trade it all just for the chance to be someone else... someone popular, outgoing and carefree... Someone like Masaki.
Masaki's what Fujimoto's friends would call an "idiot". He'd rather play soccer than study, almost never cracks a book, and is popular with all the "normal" kids. He's got flashy clothes, bleached hair and a reputation just as lousy as Fujimoto's is good.
In the summer of Fujimoto's freshman year of high school, he resolves to change his image and his life... all to make friends with Masaki. But can dyed hair, new clothes and a piercing really change a person inside?

Positive : Long Story ; I love longer stories as I like to see how the characters grow together so this was basically the only thing that made me start it and continue. Complete ; I prefer being able to finish a story in one go. Two good chapters ; somewhere around chapter 14 or 16 ish it was actually done quite realistically and well, I had hopes that it was it's cue to get better but alas. Some side characters ; The girls in Fujimoto's class was semi okay, the nurse and librarian were good people, so there were a few good characters but not really. Oh and I liked it when Fujimoto stood up to the teachers.
Negative : Characters ; main characters were Cliché and predictable. Fujimoto was annoyingly naive and over feminized to fit the use role and Takashi repeatedly went back on his words and needs to get his anger management under control, he's an alpha male who's good at everything he tries to do and not in a good way.
Side Characters ; OH MY GOD!!! They made this so unbearingly hard to read at times! Stereotypical jealous girl who tries to be a house wrecker appears Urgh! And then fucking ignorant people, like yes this was set in a more traditional time, yes Japan is likely to be less open about stuff and maybe the author did it on purpose to show how special homosexual romance is because of the hardships they'd face and make it more 'forbidden'. But really?!? Most of the characters were ignorant and treated everything outside of heterosexual as a disease, and seriously, just because someone is gay doesn't mean it's alright to rape them! How hard is it to understand that it's never okay to rape someone ?!? Trying to rape is like one type of reaction gays get in this manga, the other is that it is a mistake/misunderstanding/disease and so they 'helpfully' decide that the characters just need to be sexually harassed by females and then everything (that was great originally anyways) will be 'fine' and oh wait that's sexual abuse too so I guess it's still the same as the first reaction. Everyone is so closed minded and hypocritical and that really disgusts me.
Ideas: This I've somewhat summarised above, the ideas in this story is that anything except heterosexual relationships is not normal and you should be ashamed, everyone will react negatively if they find out and it is disgusting, you will be discriminated against and you should get help to turn straight... WTF! Really, imo love wins over everything and no one should be harmed mentally or physically for such a positive thing that is out of your control.
CONCLUSION This is actually not a great read and has been overrated in my opinion. The plot and characters are cheesy and cliché, everything is quite predictable and unrealistic. The side characters are really horrible. Really not worth it if you're looking for a proper good read. But if you're looking for cheap entertainment or is as desperate as me to read a long story then go ahead, there are 2 chapters that are good, the rest is meh.
This was my number one favourite for a very long time. I just love the drawings, the hairs and faces are wonderful, the eyes are so full of emotions. I was a little disappointed, when the art has changed to the end of the manga. The story is a bit naive, sometimes inconsistent, but also has really powerful moments that makes your heart jump. I am sorry that it is still not licenced in English, because the english translation here and there is a bit strange to me, and I had a hard time translating it to my country's language. But nevertheless it is a fantastic manga, and everyone should give it a chance despite the negative comments below.
It starts more or less all right, with the right amount of drama for one to indulge in. I also found Hiroya's motivation to change himself and be someone he's not perfectly reasonable and sane, if totally wrong and childish. But one can always argue that's part of the age and I don't think the author overdid it. At first too I thought his new and sudden friendship with Masaki would be something to look for: he seemed interesting and bad enough to mock and hurt and comfort and scar Hiroya for life. I thought it cute. After a short while though it gets a little boring. I don't like the whole side-relationships entanglement and the way that was portrayed here is just plainly predictable. I didn't care for the brother, I didn't care for the third-wheel or the the guy's knowledge about how relationships between human beings are suppose to go -- he was so damn boring. To say nothing of Hiroya's character. He went from innocently clueless to irritatingly naïve. And so much for Masaki's bad attitude: he loses all his interest fairly early too. All in all it was a disappointing read.

The front was kinda boring I should say, but I promise, it gets better!! I am really glad I didn't drop this series. The relationship between Hiroya and Masaki is just too cuuuuuuuuute
It started good at first but the plot got boring after. Most of the characters are super bad.

Kanae is such a messed up character touched his crush's brother, a junior high kid. And he attempted rape so many time. So gross. The brother is just as horrible. He lied to his brother that he might have AIDS because he was jealous that Kanae had sex with him. He should be sorry that he made his brother has sex with a gay guy like Kanae when he was in junior high. When Masaki told him he is going out with Hiroya, his brother was like :Sorry, but I cant give you the blessing and started to lecture them about relationship between 2 men, I was like: excuse me? he was the one who dated a guy and tried to kill himself over a guy first. He is such a depressing character. Then BAM they were student president and chairman. What kind of school is that? The uke, despite wanting to change at first, goes back to his honor student mode, refusing a homosexual relationship. And the love rival is super annoying. They just cant take a hint
It was a disappointing read to me.

I was about to stop reading it at first but as i got into it i realized that it covered a lot of issues that other manga's would never touch. Loved it and i am glad i have that must read to the end OCD thing when it come to stories. I would have really missed a gem.
One of a Kind
I love Yatteraneeze! It's one of my favorite manga's and definitely a nice break from the fluffy and smutty yaoi mangas that are so common. Unlike other manga's it takes a more realistic approach to that kind of relationship. Everyone is not happy just to see them in love, the characters can't sleep around without consequence, and saying I love you doesn't make everything wrap up like a fairytale. Even though it makes you angry/sad to read it's kind of refreshing to see the change from the usual happy go lucky yaoi where the hardest thing the protagonist has to do is take two panels to think about if he loves the other guy and -- spoiler alert --- he does. The art wasn't top of the like but it gets better or maybe I just stopped caring as much once I got into the story. Anyway I really recommend it. It's really my favorite manga.
At first i really did'nt want to read it, and it took me a month to decide wether or not to read it, i drop it at least 5 or 6 time in the monthe, but today i did'nt have anythings to read so i just started it and when i finished chapiter one, i could'nt stop.. it was really too good, and the reste of the story is really cute !! i totally recomande it !! i'm sure you'l love the story !! I really want another story like this ..♥♥
One of the better ones
First of all, i'd like to share that I HATE nineties manga art. The faces, the hair, the clothes, the abnormally long legs, all of it. And so when I started this, I was already prepared to endure it, and was expecting to quit after a few chapters.
But the story was actually good enough to pull me in until the end. And as a bonus, the art actually gets better, until it barely even bothered me anymore! Big big plus: there are even really cute drawings of the couple takashi and hiroya ^^
I came to absolutely love the story. It's the first yaoi I read where being gay was actually a discussed problem. Not just thinking "but we're both guys" and then they have lots of sex anyway. No, it was well-developed in here. And I really liked the bit about aids. I was still a toddler during the nineties, so I'm not sure about this, but I felt it reflected well the situation on gays at that time.
I also loved teh fact it was that long! It was not dragged or boring. I wouldn't mind reading even more of it. And because in longer series, the story has much more time to develop, it feels more genuine than the 1-volume stories.
I have one bad point though: what the hell kind of a skiing trip was that at the end? Someone falls down, loses conscousness for five minutes and oooops, there goes his memory of the entire love affair? Puhleaaaase! And ten pages later, he wakes up, falls down a flight of stairs and....tada, remembers everything? oh god, that was such a blooper after all the good chapters that preceded it. Amnesia never ever works. I very rarely find any books or films or series where amnesia doesn't completely ruin the story. It's so fake!
But anyway, except that little slip-up, it was actually better than I'd expected, and one of the better ones I read. I really like how masaki is so completely in love and very protective of fujimoto. And fujimoto who looks very weak and fragile, can actually kick some ass if he wants to. He stood up for himself at school when he changed his image, and even knocked out a teacher. (not on purpose though )
Absolutely worth the read I say!

Homosexuals are evil and have no morals (?)
I started reading this series because I read a review saying that it was the most amazing thing she was ever read and even if it started pretty bad it was awesome in the end.
So I read it up to chapter 8 at first and I was like:... this thing suck so much it hurts, now I've finished it and I can say that, well the art isn't that bad for being a 90's series, and the two last chapters were the normal bl hightschool story, and they were ok, but the other 20..., gosh, it's like every prejudice about homosexual is right, they are evil and have no morals.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It's disgusting indeed how the friend of the older brother (Saita?) nailed the protagonist Masaki under the excuse "I love your brother" he said they started when he was in 7th year... that it's like 13 years old isn't it?, when you like BL you usually say :"society portraits gay people like evil human beings, they aren't like that!" but in this manga, they are degenerated, promiscuous and child molesters, because a kid of 13 having sex with someone over 18 is molesting, no matter what. And Saita not only have sex with Masaki, he also wants to have sex with Hiroya, and the worst thing is that they don't even hate him after that... like what?, but sure, Masaki hates (and would probably fight with him) the classmate who is a bit too friendly with Hiroya. The kid (Masaki) even thinks he got AIDS, at what, 16? you are doing things wrong with your life if you thing you have AIDS and you're barely 16. Somehow Hiroya kinda saves Masaki from the disgrace he was going to become (and his older brother was kind of useless, he didn't even got mad with his friend for 'abusing of the naivety' of his brother. Probably this kind of story would have been better with older people.
Well, I wanted to end the series only to make a comment of the series, really, there are many comments saying how lovely this series is and it really isn't, you should be prepared for some sort of crude BL.
