Description
Shun, Kaname, and the twins Yuuki and Yuuta have been friends since kindergarten. It's a little hard to tell if they actually get along or not - but even as high-school students, they hang out together. Recently, they've had a new addition; a half-Japanese transfer student Chizuru, who has started to liven up the group. This manga is really just about their daily lives, which aren't particularly passionate or exciting. A tranquil and sometimes comedic story of youthful friendship...

One of the best in its genre

Out of school boy friendship manga's out there, this is out of the most entertaining.
I love the dynamics between Yuta, Yuki, Shun and Kaname and the close childhood bond they share.
My only complaint is the amount of chapters focusing on Misaki and Chizuru's relationship. I find these chapters to be quite boring and repetitive and Chizuru is the probably the only character I can't seem to develop any affinity with. Love the rest of the cast.

I know it is supposed to be a gag manga, but I can't help this bittersweet feeling I get when I read it. It squeezed my heart somehow...

I hope it will be released in my country... since it is a nice reading XD

So refreshing, the only school genre I approve.
Rating: 10.0 / 10.0

I have to say, I usually hate school stories. It gets boring. First thing is school setting, characters who does funny things in their daily life, and that's it. Not enough? Throw in some jealous girls, you get cat fights. Throw in boys and you get comedy about boys being boys who does stupid things. Throw in another girl and you get love triangles. Throw in cliches and you just want to gag. Makes me feel like school stories are for those who are truly bored

So when my friend gave me the files for the anime, I reluctantly start watching it. Within the first episode, I was rolling in laughter. And then I proceed to hijack my computer to read the manga.

Kimi to Boku follows 4 boys who grew up since kindergarten together and are now attending high school. Then a half-Japanese transfer student joins in their group. This is a character-driven story. Their personality is what brings the meat to the table. You have Shun, the feminine boy; Kaname who acts like the oldest within the group; the twins, Yuuki and Yuuta, who somehow the start of comedy most of the time; and finally the Chizuru the transfer student who follows along to make the comedy even more funnier. A girl joins in the group, but I felt like the manga focuses more on the boys and their daily life.

The art is very simple and clean, not a lot of details. It can feel weird at first, but you'll get use to it. The art style truly fit the mood and the feeling to the story. A detail drawing would probably ruin the mood of the reading. So I'll give it a 8.

Like I say, this is a character-driven manga. So it's definitely a 10 out of 10.

Recommend? Definitely. It's one of the few school genre that I approve.

Shounen?

Actually I've read only a few chapters, but I'm really excited to read more! It's such a cute story of friendship w/o silly drama etc. The characters are also lovable, Yuki especially is my instant favorite. And omg the bishies (*o*) *drool*... really surprised me that this is supposed to be a shounen manga, because I'm sensing too much BL vibe hahahaha.

[opinion]Shun isn't thick-headed, he's just so totally gay. I'm speaking from experience here T__T[/opinion]

Good Slice of Life
Rating: N/A

Recently I've been really getting into these slice of life story plots. It's just refreshing after the endless amount of cliche shoujo mangas that have extremely annoying, stupid, and dense heroines. (:
It's good to just have something that's light with some comedy, and you don't have to expect anything dramatic that couldn't possibly happen on the face of this earth.

Different Kind of Storytelling, that's for sure.

The detriments of this manga's style is immediately obvious: there's nothing you're looking forward to. Everyday is going to be roughly more of the same: illnesses, festivals, comedic scenes, and maybe a bit of revisiting the past. If you're geared up for the battle of the 21st century, you might want to give this a miss.

But a little bit of counterintuitive thinking'll have you realize that that in itself is it's strength. It doesn't need to build up to a climax - there's no pressure on the mangaka to invent seemingly plausible (and sometimes completely unrealistic) events and happenings to fit a plot climax, and there's no pressure on the reader to scale that climax. This negates the most common kind of criticism we see today: "yeah right how could that have happened!?"

Other strengths include clean artwork and believable and potentially complex characters. Obviously, more character growth is always desirable, so it's quite good that we start out with two-dimensional characters (not literal) that leaves scope for later development. It also sings of warmth and sincerity, and might perhaps help the middle-aged reminisce their own carefree school daze. No rating at present, but I think it has potential to reach 8.5 so long as it stays humourous, engaging and ends off well.

PS: My favourite character is Akira. He's hilarious (the alien backstory was so retarded it was funny). Of course, Kouichi's the perfect friend to have, but these idealized archetypes occur so often in shoujo that it's becoming bland. What makes Kouichi stand out here is Akira. It'd be great to see more of them. Unfortunately, those two aren't the main characters!

...like whip cream. Low-fat. I seriously, honestly love each of the characters in this manga. Even some of the more annoying ones I can't help but laugh at and forgive. The twins are hot eye candy, but their personalities are awesome. Kaname can be comedic and cool at the same time, and I seriously thought Shun was... yeah. Chizuru just livens up the group all the more. And being a shoujo fan, I really like the light but poignant romance that naturally develops in the story. The translators did a wonderful job expressing each character's dialogue, and I am eager to read the next chapters. I recommend this series to those in search of a laid-back, light, funny, and insightful read with the occasional heart-tugging moment for the sensitive soul.

This manga is so nice.
its light and a very enjoyable read. No dramatic heroines, no big action or adventure, just a simple story of 4 male childhood friends (i kind of wished it was shounen ai)
it has good comedy and when you read it you'll want it to keep going, its an unique read so if you want to try something new you should read kimi to boku~
