Description
High school 2nd year, Amano Yukiteru, is a boy who has problem making friends. He thinks of himself as a bystander and will always write down everything he sees in a cell phone diary.

Tormented by solitude, Yukiteru began to imagine things like a friend called Deus Ex Machina who is apparently the Lord of Time & Space. Seeing Yukiteru's miserable state, Deus gives him a new ability. His diary will now record events that will happen in the near future. Yukiteru is then forced to participate in a game which the winner will become Deus's successor.

the story is just awesome it makes you keep guessing whats going to happen next. i also like the female lead yuno she is kinda crazy (literally) but you cant help but love her character however the same cant be said on yuki he just pisses me off it he is a total pussy, it took sometime for me to even get used to him but overall this is a good read it comes as highly recommended

Predictable Generic Insanity by Fundefined on December 19th, 2009, 4:47am

If you're looking for nuanced characters whose actions are dictated rationally, turn away. Mirai Nikki's concept is one that has a strong hook promising suspense and intrigue, but the author instead opts to create characters so predictable illogical it ends up being a bloody mess without point. The narration is scatterbrained and so out of touch, the plot is turned irrelevant and secondary to whomever can conjure the most insanity. Mind you, this isn't though-provoking, unique insanity; it's insane for sake of insanity for shock value because the author lacks the ability to make the characters interesting otherwise. When compared to other mangas that feature a deadly design game, such as Battle Royale, it lacks empathy thus even though the characters may be psychotic, they are boring.

Still if you seek buckets of blood and crazy people doing crazy acts of violence, you'll a kick out of Mirai Nikki. Just don't expect any thought process.

Great by tsunade666 on December 13th, 2009, 11:57pm

at first I was going to drop it due to yuki. His my most hated main character ever that I have read. But due to yuno I barely managed and get to the great part.

Interesting premise by charsiewpau on October 17th, 2009, 9:23pm

I picked up this manga by recommendation from friends. I think it's a great read if the reader is looking to analyze (or over-analyze) character relationships and motives for their actions.

But one thing I do find interesting in this manga it the drive of each character as they seek to obtain their objectives. The characters' manipulative and cognitive skills are brought to light and serves to be the main attraction (to me at least) when I am reading this anime.

Apart from that, some of the characters are pretty forgettable and are probably elements the author conjured up to advance the plot line.

With a title like that, I wouldn't be surprised if suddenly, a new character pops out and ends the story by relieving the protagonist of his contract or awarding him with 'a second life' of sorts.

Still, it is not a dull read if you like to give a bit of thought on the motives and the way the characters exploit situations and relationships to achieve their motives. If reading casually, readers would likely be put off/confused by the characters actions, as the story doesn't really explain the reason for their actions immediately after the fact (or before, in some cases).

incoherent by boomstick3000 on July 28th, 2009, 1:14pm

Story skips all over the place, main character is unlikable, and the female protagonist, while more interesting than the main character, is overrated in other comments.

The real thriller by 2wcp on July 9th, 2009, 9:14pm

Imo, this is a much compelling thriller than death note. The psychological factors are there, but with less dialogue and more action.

After reading some comments here, it's kinda true that the main reason that this series is so exciting is just because of one, mysterious and deep character. However, I'd say that the character is so damn good and that's sufficient to make this manga a worth read.

Highly recommended by me, a Death Note fan

Mirai Nikki by jaggie on June 12th, 2009, 10:54am

The world is filled with good Ideas for the different mediums society presents to us.

The premise of Mirai Nikki seems ideal for a manga format, Highschool kids with powers that can predict the future from various prespectives and they have to kill everyone in order to "win" the "game".

It's a nice freshening idea but the author is to stuck to the rules imposed by the genres it follows and clearly doesn't know how to handle the potential of its own idea.

The story is meshed with the typical love story and one sided characters, predictable plot twists and the visual information is nothing more than poor. The author could explore the psychological side of each character and make it more of a mental manga like death note but no..he drives himself constantly into mindless action scenes that seem so forced from the beginning.

The main character is a cheap imitation of Shinji Ikari but with no background or charisma to be so.
The only trump of the manga is Gasai Yunno a character so insane, so unpredictable, so pragmatic that is just fun watching her make the weirdest (but best) decisions in the worst situations.

Great !! by oneSeasonDream on May 3rd, 2009, 11:57pm

I love this series. The plot is interesting and of course, what made Mirai Nikki differents, is the characters ( Come on, what kind of heroine is Yuno! ^____^ ) I especially love Yuno - really unpredictable (look in ch 24 oh myy it was a real shock!) and i like Yuki too. I see that he's not going to be a loser forever, so there's a development in the plot. And it reminds me of Death Note too, i mean how the Yuki use Yuno to protect him but at least Yuki didn't go too far as Raito did. Hope to read the continuation soon ^^

and makes me can't stop reading it.
its a bit crazy but thats the point that makes me can't stop reading it.
i'm just afraid that this manga would end with a crappy ending like Death Note.
