Description
Shirayuki is a young woman born with unique apple-red hair. After catching word about her hair, Prince Rajin sends orders for her to become his concubine. With nowhere else to go, Shirayuki cuts her hair and escapes to a neighboring country. While traversing through the forests, she meets a young man, Zen, who helps her after she boldly cures his wounds. He soon, however, becomes poisoned by an apple meant for Shirayuki. What will happen to Shirayuki? What is Zenís true character? A refreshing fantasy story between an optimistic heroine and a prince who constantly stays on her watch.

Lacked Direction

That's my problem with this manga. I read manga mostly because of escapism, but there's not much character development and the story lacked an overarching story line. It's a huge shame, since I thought that Akagami no Shirayukihime had tons of potential.

The manga itself isn't bad at all though. Characters are fairly realistic and likeable. You don't see a lot of the overused shoujo manga cliches. The art is nothing spectacular but well above average. It's more of a slice of life set in a fantasy world, and that made sense. Still, it wasn't my cup of tea. As I said, without a Real Plot it just didn't look as appealing to me.

Recommended Audience (IMO) - Those who like slice of life, a light story and a sweet, not-so-cliche romance. Or those who wanted to kill time xD

Slice of Life

I think this is a great, easy going series that is happily devoid of any cliches. It honestly feels like a Slice of Life genre with an almost fantasy-esque historical setting, and from reading some of the negative reviews it seems they dislike it for its Slice of Life style, as opposed to disliking the series itself.

This series is one of my favorites! Definatly in my top 5! I know a lot of people say it has a slow begining but I had no trouble picking this manga up I read the first 9 volumes in about 3 days. I am just waiting for more to release in the US or for someone to udate online. I highly recomend this series for anyone who wants to read a good romance fantasy manga.

I liked it more when I thought it was a one shot. The are is wonderful and the story is just I'm not sure where its going. I feel that is just been dragged on when it should have already ended.

STILL I do enjoy reading it to kill time.

Really nice but boring

I've tried reading this manga so many times. The first time I tried which was maybe 2 years ago, I couldn't get past the first few chapters. After reading reviews, I decided to give it a go again. I got past the slow beginning, and I did get into it a bit after, but stopped in the middle of volume five and can't seem to pick it up again no matter how many times I try.

The characters are nice, art is nice, story is nice too, but I find everything to be "flat". I like the characters but they lack a special zap that makes them stand out. I might update this review seeing if I ever am able to read further..

Great

It has a bad start that is not interesting at all but afterwards, as the arcs starts it becomes very good.
This manga has everything needed:
1) A strong and determined female lead which cries rarely(when appropriate) thus not an exaggerated MC which is either super strong or super fragile
2) A decent male lead that is not arrogant, tsundere or whatever clichés that are available out there
3) Great and neat art as from the middle of the story
4) Great and lovable characters which are well drawn and funny
5) This story doesnt really have a fixed plot and its an asset if you dont like manga which are stretched and stretched till it makes you lose interest
6) A good and simple love that doesnt go through misunderstandings or other stupid situations
7) Historical background
8) A light hearted story that develops slowly and thus makes it interesting
The only bad point in this story is that the couple is fixed from the start and thus the reader knows there's no chance for the love rivals

It wasn't very interesting at the beginning but i decided to read it abit more before giving up on it. Around chapter 20 (when i noticed) it got very interesting and was much better than before so i reccommend not giving up so easily

One of the best shoujo

It's calm with an easygoing pace. Like some other reviewers below have mentioned, it doesn't have much of an excitement factor, so I think some people would probably get bored pretty quickly. However, once you look past the uber-relaxed pacing you'll find some rare treasures that aren't commonly present in shoujo: realistic, complex, likeable characters that don't conform to tropes (the main heroine is kind yet strong and witty, the main male character isn't the cool, tall, cold lead commonly found but rather endearing), beautifully intricate yet clean art, and a slight fantasy twist on the setting that makes the story more enjoyable and interesting to read about. Highly recommended; just make sure you approach it with an open-mind.

This story is meh. I stopped reading after chapter 7, came back and continued and dropped it.

I admit that this does invoke warm feelings, but the story is just bland.
