First of all, the artwork and characters are very similar to those of One Piece. It is better in that they provide some background and character development for the good guys. The bad guys are still one-dimensional in that they are just stereotypical pure evil with no redeeming qualities. Read it if you want to enjoy a simple hero-villain story, but not if you want any depth in plot or characters.

This manga makes me really giddy. Good storyline? Not much. A lot of uniqueness? Not in particular. But this whole manga just makes me happy for some reason. I wouldn't read this manga if I wanted to take it seriously, but it's a bunch of fun for me.

The artwork is amazing, the story had a bit of a slow pace at first, but has recently (100+) been very entertaining. It's easy to claim parallels with One Piece due to it's artwork, but if you look carefully, the character design, plot and fight scenarios, is pleasantly different. I personally also favor the ever so rare fan-service.

Edit: Now 200+ chapters in, the manga actually just gets better and better (shouldn't it be the other way around?), definitely an entertaining read, even for those who usually don't appreciate shounen, such a myself (exceptions being OP and FMA for me, and now FT as well!).

Hiro Mashima study under Eiichiro Oda so his artwork would be similar to Oda, and other stuffs.. I rated this manga purely on enjoyment and not originality like other people... and one thing for sure OP started way earlier than Fairy Tail so Fairy Tail beginning would be better than OP

-since OP is Oda's first major project.. Though One Piece plots and arts are getting better and better
-as for Hiro's first major project is Rave so he learn alot from it..

So people stop comparing One Piece and Fairy Tail...

Very generic, not a single redeeming quality.

There is no reason for anybody to read this over any of the other(and much better) shounen out there right now, and if someone does say Fairy Tail is better than XX shounen they're probably just the type that won't read/watch a series because its popular.

Crap, garbage, would give it a 0 if it wasnt for the art.

I'd prefer this over One Piece anyday! Great plot, action, humour, EVERYTHING!

so far this looks like a different version of one piece...the fights don't seem to be taken serious which is rather annoying..its like this is just one big comedy...not that funny really...the humor doesn't interest me much...instead I'm looking rather interested in seeing everyone's fighting abilities. There's probably isn't gonna be much death or romance in this story just like One piece.

This is a tricky one. It takes the art of One Piece and makes it look far better than the original (atleast I can stand it more). It takes the good ole` "we're a group of friends fighting together" and makes the guild feel so alive. It takes the concept of the kid searching for his parent/foster parent-that-taught-him-teh-00ber-superpowah (nonetheless a DRAGON) and turns it into something that makes you yell at Shounen Jump for not releasing a daily issue. And you can never have enough wacky characters.
I don't care if it has nothing original. But that's what makes a great manga: make you feel like reading a shounen for the first time.

Fairytail FTW.

I am not denying in any fact that this manga bears tons of similarities with other shonen mangas, but i think this manga delivers on those similar fronts better than most of the others. I'm not being biased but out of all the shonen i've read, this is definitely the best. It has action, values, fan service and humor, and packs it all up in a refreshingly new package centralized in magic. A definite must read for shonen lovers, who love the humor of one piece and miss the humor of naruto.

It's one of those manga you read for fun and not really seriously.
That's not necessarily a bad thing. It does a good job of entertaining the reader (well I guess that actually depends on the reader). You should probably keep in mind that this manga targets younger boys, so the humor is what you'd imagine considering the target age.
