Sawako Kuronuma is the perfect heroine... for a horror movie. With her jet-black hair, sinister smile and silent demeanor, she's often mistaken for the haunting movie character Sadako. But behind her scary facade is a very misunderstood teenager. Too shy to fit in, all she wants to do is make some friends. But when a popular boy in class befriends her, she's sure to make more than just that--she's about to make some enemies too!

In 2008 it won the Best Shoujo Manga award in the 32nd Annual Kodansha Manga Award. The series was also nominated for the first Manga Taisho awards in 2008.

sweet but cliche

This was one of the first manga i read. I liked the characters, even though they were quite cliche.

The series was nice and it had a good sense of drama. it wasnt extremely emotional but it had enough drama to let you cry and sympathize with them. Unfortunately, some events were pertty predictable.
The art is better than your normal shoujo and the story goes on longer than the usual. The plot isnt concentrated on the main couple. as you read the series, it portrays the female protagonist's social relationships which include her friends and her enemies and how the problem was solved.

I was introduced this manga by my friend. I watched the anime first and absolutely loved it. It was so cute and i even cried a little bit. I can understand how lonely Sawako must have felt. Season 1 was amazing and Season 2's ending was sooo cute. It ended really well. Then i read the manga but i still think the anime was amazing. hehe. But the manga i have to admit is going pretty slowly now. And nothing is really happening between Kazehaya and Sawako.

So REAL

This manga, though it is slow, is gripping. Everything about it is so honest, innocent and realistic. It's about imperfect relationships and has pairings of every sort that some of us can relate to : The best friends, the outcast that is understood and accepted by love and the hurt girl that is misunderstood by all. I just love how each is developed, not just focusing on a single character. This manga is about pure love, yet it is also about how sometimes life can change it. All of the characters are refreshing, as none of them are shallow puddles, each showing more and more depth as the story continues.
I can't wait to see how it ends!

I admit, at the moment the story plot is getting slow or focusing on the other characters (I just really love Kazehaya and Sawako and want to know what happens next). But, I love this manga and there's not one just like this. It's very motivating (for me at least) and it's such a feel good manga.
If you're looking for a "awwwwwwww~" moment, you should definitely read this, I would even say it'll change your life or make you be a little happier. <3 "One good deed a day" hahaha, Just give it a try and I hope you'll love it as much as I do.

I love how this manga does concentrate on details. The artwork is very beautyful and lovely done. A refreshing opposite of so many rushed shojo-maga I have read in the past. That way it really gives you the feeling of love.

edit: buuuut it got boring. i cannot lay my finger on the exact chapter, but somehow I find myself bored and stubborn to read at the same time. 82 chapter so far. How can I give up now? xD But I kinda wish, I dropped it after the main couple got together finally.

It's so pure and innocent, but that's why i love it so much. Personally I think this is more realistic than any other manga out there, by that I mean relationship wise, it's like how a real life first relationship would turn out. I think that the reason the couple's progress is slow is because of their personalities and because I think it's true love- and let me tell you, this is the first time I ever thought that for a manga. Hehe totally recommended. Also, don't believe what other people say, that this manga is "losing it's charm". It's really not! It's just that right now the mangaka is tying loose ends, in the relationships with the side characters, so you can see that they'll be happy, but it's just that the scanlations are released really slow. (I hate how a good manga is ruined because of slow releases, but apparently people don't take that into account when rating) If you think you'll think it will lose its charm by the time you catch up, too, I suggest waiting till it's completed, so bookmark it!

..can't be as slow as another very good shoujo out there : Skip beat (try 190 chapters without a single kiss). What makes Kimi ni Todoke special is that it doesn't just focus on the main couple and forget all about other characters. This manga focuses on just not romance, but also friendship between the 3 girls, between the guys or even relationship between rivals etc. Flash backs are there to explain and further solidify that specific "couple"'s bond. Overall a very solid manga, which caters to a wide range of interests: popular guy-shy girl, shy guy-shy girl, childhood friends, love triangle, bromance, etc. Kimi ni todoke deserves its popularity and is definitely worth reading.

The overall story is good, but it is so padded with useless fluff in order to stretch things out. Who wants to read a 4 chapter childhood flashback flashback about a minor side character. I can't even remember that last time the main characters even had a real conversation in this manga. This manga has become painful to read.

I really can't understand why this manga is so popular. It's just sooooo f*cking slow. Ok, i don't wanna transformed the genre to smut but OMG, why don't you do something? Soo many volumes and nothing!?! Really?!? They will end up saying i love you before even kissing! And hey, that's not realistic, what everybody said to justify the slow progress.

Anyhow, it's realy frustrating, but aside that, it's a good manga, really good manga, reeeeeelly. But i won't wait every month for it, i just will wait the 25 volume be out and then , MAYBE, with luck, some kiss or sothing really romantic it's gonna happen.

so if you don't care about the slowness, dig in!

Losing interest

I started watching the anime first then I moved on to the manga. It is a sweet and endearing series but recently, I am losing interest in the manga after Sawako and Kazehaya got together. 65 chapters in and they still haven't kissed (if my memory serves me well) and the series is now focusing more on the side characters which is great but there's nothing of a major importance that is happening in the storyline to keep me interested. I ended up just skimming the pages. Sigh...I hope the pace will pick up soon. It used to be the manga that I waited for every month. It's still a great manga though I just wish it can be a more fast-paced than it is now.
