Glad I tried it

To be honest I only read this because my friend kept going on about how good and funny in was and at the first few chapters I wasn't really interested in it and wanted to stop, but now I have to say that I'm glad I kept on reading. Although to me the first few chapters was boring it was to set up the story so I didn't skip it. If I was to break the story into four parts (start, middle 1, middle2, finish) I would probably say middle 1 was my favourite and then middle 2. The ending left me with a very unsatisfied feeling as many have pointed out before me.

In my opinion I think the part where shin was forced to become deputy and so even though they could finally get together, they chose not to, was unnecessary. Despite how annoying obstacles are they're there to make the story exciting and interesting, but that was just too many obstacles. And as people before me have said there were many questions unanswered which I found annoying but compared to how great the story was as a whole it was bearable. What I really didn't get was why ChaeKyung refused to go back to the palace, yes I get that it was a horrible and lonely place for her but before she didn't want to get kicked out of the palace so shouldn't she be apply that she could go back to the palace, and as she said herself, although there were bad memories there were good ones too and it was where she spent lots of her time with shin. And she had gotten close to the royal family and the staff, they had accepted her. So it would be hard if she had to go back, but it isn't something that she wouldn't be able to handle.

So it was a great story which could have had some improvement with its ending and maybe the start too. I liked the characters and art and it was a decent plot too, would of given ten but the ending wasn't worth a ten to me so I'm giving it a nine.

Great but the ending...

After watching the drama for this manhwa, I thought that it would be a good idea to read the manhwa. Because the manhwa was still ongoing, I knew that there would be a lot of differences compared to the drama. This manhwa was entertaining; I simply loved it. The author's humor, the quirky characters, the politics. Then the author decides to give the manhwa a frustrating ending. Just as athinyuni89 said there are too many things left unanswered. This should have gone on longer.

Best Manhwa BUT Not Best Ending

First of all, I do really love this manhwa for the art (number 1), storyline, the development of the character and sense of humor.

The joke is quite entertaining with the side character like Gong Inuche, Han Sanggoon and Debi Dwangmama. When you feel very frustrated and sad then suddenly the joke appears and make you forget your feeling before and feel more better.

But still after reading for more than 150 chapters and almost 200 chapters, I still feel uncertain with the ending since there is some questionable story left.

Questions like:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
-Yul still want the throne and getting to become Goon which give him rights for the throne.
-King said his true character will appear after what Yul has done but noting I can see.
-Do they have to wait for almost 10 years to be together again since Shin wants to wait for his brother, Sun become legible for the throne.

All these sort of things give me a hole after reading it for so long.

Btw, this is a very good manhwa, if you are not concern about the ending. Then give it try.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this manhwa -- but what is up with the ending? I hate that it made me very emotionally attached to the plot and the characters and then it goes to a very abrupt conclusion ;___; Grrr, I'm so frustrated right now. It would have been great if the author made some omakes on their futures just for fanservice! Reading tons of volumes isn't funny if you're not gonna give the characters and the readers what they deserve. This is like Hana Yori Dango where the author left a very open ending (at least that one has extra chapters to make up for it) but this one doesn't have anything except an awesome drama (which is the reason I started reading this in the first place.) Truthfully speaking, I love this manhwa more than the drama. There's more room for character development and the emotions of the characters where much more intense.

The worst thing that the author did in this manhwa was to separate Shin and Chae Kyung for the second time. Seriously why?! She has already successfully convinced me that their love isn't that weak. What's the use of giving Chae Kyung freedom and Shin the throne if you know that they're still gonna be broken and miserable inside? It doesn't make any sense. With all that build-up, they should be wiser and stronger to make decisions. The characterizations in the last 2 volumes feel so wrong.

I would give it a 10 if it wasn't for that ending. Nevertheless, it was still a HIGHLY entertaining manhwa.

Was Great Until The End

One of my first manhwa's ever. Overall it's one of the best stories I have ever read, this includes manga, manhua and manhwa. The plot had a great and fresh concept (to me), the art, you may not be familiar with at first, but you grow to love it and the characters.... were enough.

The idea for this manhwa was great, first few volumes were some of the best I've read in a while. However, somewhere in the middle and towards the end, it gets real dramatic. At times I was confused and frustrated with the amount of drama happening. You could tell that the manhwa-ka (?) was dragging out the series, because just when you thought it was about to end, something absolutely random and dramatic occurred to keep the story going. You should still read this manhwa anyways, in my opinion it's one of the best plots ever.

The characters all had their quirks and flaws. The main characters took a while to get used but I managed to instantly love some characters like Yul and Goong Eunch (?). The main female lead, Che-kyung, was strong with her actions and words, but was still weak with her insecurities. Shin was over confident and proud, but was just lonely all the time. Yul, I love that sick bastard, underwent a major change, from a quiet unrequited love to becoming a freakishly obsessed stalker.
You learn to love them however all characters will certainly annoy you at one point.

The art took a while for me to get used to, but as I kept reading I got used to it. The art gradually improves and becomes more beautiful towards its end. Or either the early scans I read weren't that good....

Everyone's main complaint, the ending. I can guarantee everyone single person who reads this till the end will hate the ending. I was so unsatisfied and angry after all of that effort readin 150+ chapters to get an ending like this. I actually didn't know it was an ending but another chapter, another cliffhanger. I thought after that there would be an epilogue at the end showing,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Yul and Miroo back in Korea, Shin and Chaeyang having children living in the Goong and Sun being a king?
The manhwa-ka could have chosen so many chapters to stop at, like when
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Shin and Chaeyang touched for the first time, like bed touching...
. There are certain manhwas and mangas that are allowed to have this type of ending. That does not apply to Goong, especially with all of those chapters and explanations.

Avoid this manhwa if you hate drama. There's like a lot. Other than that it's wow and fantastic, baby. You should try it out if you're into shoujo and into historical drama meets modern romance.

I was so frustrated with this series. I can sympathize with everyone who said that reading this gave them a headache. . I agree that the series could have been finished way sooner. The middle was a complete waste of time for me with all the unnecessary drama. There were funny bits as well, but I don't think it made up for all the frustration.

I loved the story and the idea of Goong. I must admit that I put off reading it for a long while because of how lengthy it was. I wasn't deterred by the negative comments because I like making up my own mind about how I feel about about things. There were characters that I truly hated (Hyo Rin). I thought she was despicable. And As much as I loved Yul in the beginning, I hated him in the end. Definitely got what he deserved in my opinion HAHA I don't think there was anything wrong with the way Shin changed. People change and it's not like he did in a bad way. Chae Kyung parents completely annoyed me. You would think that their baby girl was 12 instead of 20!! smh

And what the hell was with that ending?!?! I mean it was so obvious what Park intended, so why not go all the way. We know what Chae Kyung's decision was so ending it that way was a load of crap. I don't think they would've waited for the brother to grow up to progress. it's not like they were still in their teens smh I think we could have seen what was after that. And for all our frustrations, I think we deserved it.

This series took me on a rollercoaster, I got angry, happy, frustrated, sad at times... the whole works. But ultimately, besides the ending, I still loved it 99.9%

Hey, if you are to start a good story, at least finish it properly! Seriously.....it was AMAZING......but......OI! OI! WTF?!! U JUST DESTROYED ALL YOUR HARD WORK! THE PLOT, CHARACTERS, IT ALL WENT IN FLAMES! CLOSE THE STORY PROPERLY! NOW YOUR STORY IS AVERAGE. IT WAS A GREAT ONE, WOULD HAVE GIVEN 10, BUT WHAT A PITY, THE ENDING...
HONESTLY, ALL I CAN RECALL FROM THIS MANGA AFTER FINISHING IT 2MONTHS AGO, I CAN ONLY RECALL A PALACE, A FEW CHARACTERS, AND THATS ALL. NOtHING MEMORABLE.

I love Goong and the writer's wicked humor. Both the plot and the drawing style might not be everyone's cup of tea but I personally find them interesting enough to stick with Goong till the end. However, the ending was a little too fast and unsatisfying. At last Chaeyoung made the choice, but I would like to read more about their life together after that. The last panel did not leave a deep impression in me even though it is what I had been looking forward to since the moment I started reading Goong. May be a few extra chapters of sweet and funny moments or so will end Goong more properly and with an exclamation mark.

I had put this off for ages because of all the negative comments, but then I finally gave in to my curiosity and read it, and I really liked it.
I also agree with all the comments about the crappy things about it, but somehow I still enjoyed it, and it's actually become a favourite. Maybe according to some people I have bad taste or whatever, but I'm just putting this out there to say that some people will hate something, while others love it.
So if you think you're interested in reading this based on the summary, give it a chance, you may really like it like I did. But if not, just stop reading it then.
