It is slowly being Bleach-ified

This series started out fantastic, the action was awesome, the plot entertaining for a shounen, the humour hilarious. But ever since the kidnapped miu arc I noticed that the chapters were beginning to resemble Bleach chapters in terms of pacing and use of pages. Large portions of a chapter's pages are used for unnecessary dialogue or closeups of characters. Events or story lines that could have been covered in a couple of chapters take twice if not thrice as long to cover. I find it very frustrating to have to endure a month if not longer of looking at the same fight being played out as if in slow motion. On a personal note I hate how
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Kenichi recovers so damn quickly after his fight with brainwashed miu and the giant weapons guy, it would have been far more interesting for their relationship as well as character development if Kenichi was unable to fight due to the serious injuries he so obviously sustained and Miu to realize she was responsible for it. Instead of the infuriatingly crappy "Oh thanks for snapping me out of my brainwashing." "No problem, now let's fight together as if I haven't gone through 15 chapters of getting brutalized by you and the giant sword guy!" scene that happened.
that still makes my blood boil every time I think about it.

My advice to you is to read up until just before Miu get's kidnapped and then put this serioes on you hold list for the next 4 or 5 months until this arc is over, which it still isn't much to my chagrin.

This is prettty good! I actually like how Kenichi isn't one of those power-hungry fighters always hoping to get stronger ( he kinda is, but has a different feel to it), and i love how he's not a fighting genius and doesn't always want to fight. Finally a character that isn't a natural talent (lol hellish training)! It makes it seem much more real. Love the parts when he runs away scared that he's going to die. I likey how he grows and is kinda more willing to fight but only to protect those around him. There is a lot of ecchi though so many bare boobies =/ Otherwise i'm happy i picked this up biggrin

At first i was reluctant to read HSDK because i actually judged the manga by its cover(vol 1 cover art) but after reading a couple of reviews i gave it a shot. Instantly the comedy, action, art got my attention.
The story builds up really well and this manga is the only one I've read multiple times(vol 1 to vol 43).
great manga read it

Its a lie u can skip volume 15 to 30, you would ended missing a lot of things and a lot of plots, kenichi really is growing better, if u see volume 16 he still with a normal body in the lastest he has a more fighter. The teachers show more participation in the history and even is slow in something like the romance. Any guys that get tired of a manga only becuase wanna see a ending arent good to describe things, most great works has 30 volumes but a lot of bad mangas that are popular between teenagers that cant maintain 5 mins of concentration has only 3-5 volumes no wonder young adults are the actual buyers of the originals mangas.

When I first started reading this manga, I enjoyed it. Greatly. The story was interesting the art was good, and of course the occasional near nudity was enjoyable as well. However as the story progressed, it became more and more repetitive. Theres always someone else out there gunning for Kenichi and his friends. Always some new training to make him magically stronger. There is humor in the story, but whats telling is that if you skip from volume 15 to volume 30 you won't really have missed a single thing. That pretty much sums up the manga. After awhile I've simply become tired of it. Too much fighting, not enough story. When all you have are fights, for no reason at all, then theres really no reason to read it.

This is one of the most overrated mangas in history. It starts with a crappy guy becoming insanely strong within a matter of months beating guys who have been training all their lives!!!!!. All because he wants to protect some over Busty Chick he hardly knows anything about. Then getting involved in some kind of martial arts war good vs evil rubbish. The whole manga goes strong villain appears defeats good guy then goes through some obscure training beats villain the cycle starts again with no end in sight. Too much Ecchi Too little plot.

Pure Shounen

In my opinion, this series is shounen manga in its purest form. A weak boy becomes a strong man through intense training. Throw in some gags and some ecchi and it turns into one of the best all-around shounen series.

While slightly ecchi and with average art, this manga makes up for all of that by being utterly hilarious! Kenichi is in a nutshell, a generic shounen manga written with generous amounts of satire. It's the satire that makes it so funny. It's actually one of the funniest mangas I've ever read, with great characters and the best lines.

Essentially an awesome manga. I recommend it to everybody unless you don't like physically impossible boobs.
