From Yen Press:

Maka is a weapon meister, determined to turn her partner, a living scythe named Soul Eater, into a powerful death scythe — the ultimate weapon of Death himself! Charged with the task of collecting and devouring the tainted souls of ninety-nine humans and one witch, Maka and her fellow meisters strive to master their weapons as they face off against the bizarre and dangerous minions of the underworld. But the meisters’ own personal quirks may prove a bigger obstacle than any sultry enchantress!

Weird But Funny and Addictive....

Soul Eater has wacky art (as somebody said, reminiscent of Tim Burton's work) but it presents an original storyline and interesting characters. The three main meisters and their weapons are presented equally--nobody gets left out.

I actually really like it, because its so funny.
I'm fond of the art, and the only thing I dislike about it
is the all the fan service (middle of kick-ass battle, they suddenly have a page with the cat-witch in a tub. >.o Has nothing to do with it...)
The plot is classic shounen, but I don't mind. I haven't read enough anyhow(shounen). I suggest people give it a try. You can watch the anime too, its following the same storyline so far (and the fights look so much cooler!!)

Like everyone else says the art is great (reminds me of tim burton in a way) and the plot was a little slow at first but sped up and caught me and kept me reading.
also the fan servoce with Blair is the best!

also the fan service is awesome XD

I thought art is pretty weird at first, but later I realized how well it works with the story. Plot is very good for a shounen manga, and humor is perfect. There's enough fanservice, but not annoyingly much. However, I must say that characters are what makes Soul Eater this good. They are all likable, strong and very much not-perfect, and that's what makes them interesting.
What's most amazing is well-mixed amount of hilarious and touching/emotional moments - never going into irritating extremes like many other manga.

I am with the reviews below me. It started out relatively well for a shonen action manga and became more interesting and unique as it went along but the last two yeas at least have been just tedious and pointless. No more plot or characterization just regurgitation and standstill. Hope it gets good again.
And the spinoff is sadly really bad.
Update: And now the series is dead and the ending is the typical unconclusive shonen mess. What a letdown but i still like it enough overall.

How disappointing, Soul Eater goes to shit about 2/3 of the way through, not even the internet defintion of shit (i.e. it did something I dislike) its just the overall quality drops and it feels entirely flat and tedious. Pity, suppose I'll read on anyway.

Whew! I watched the 1st episode of the anime and it already pawned me!! It's freaking cool! The fight scenes are superb to the maximum level! Although the ambiance is a little disturbing since it's my first time to stumble such art style, it's really worth it. The manga is also a great work, although it needs a little bit of cleaning from the rough inking. Hell, so far, this is the best among the NEW anime categories out there. It's really worth watching and reading

The action is quite enjoyable but the kiddy fanservice is however bothersome.
If you managed to do go past it,you'll enjoy reading the series for its actions scenes.
