Good until Chapter 44.

I like this manga, Found it very funny, but after the stupid plot-twist on chapter 44, it has gone downhill. My rating for this was 9 out of 10, but after that it is 7 out of 10. I hope the author can redeem it, but I doubt they will ever mention it again and the certain character will stay an annoying secondary with no real point anymore.

A hole... Oh! A hole...

I thoroughly enjoyed this manga, from it's upbeat downright Otakuness, to it's serious responsibility and parental overtones...
It's clever, and at times can lift your spirits. This manga is average in it's approach, but great on it's creative theme, never heard an Otaku/Parent centered story... Minus allot of shoujo manga...
It's art is passable, although sometimes you wonder why it doesn't look better, because his average pages are ok, when at times he does a page that looks magnificent.

The hole that it leaves me with is, in the most recent chapter's, although it adds more realistic overtones, it leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth:
Spoiler (highlight to view)
The whole relationship with Sensei and the Manager is weird, it makes me think they just came up with it on the spot. Also the manager's mom is like a floozy of some sort, although true, they use psychology to defend that fact, and the fact that she abandoned her kid!? And the Manager barely care's about that! i felt it was a kick in the ba!!'s for me!
End Rant...
But all in all, this is a manga to read. And you don't have to know too many manga, don't listen to the comments, the scantlators added comments of which ones are obscure. The only ones you need to know are, Dragon Ball Z, Evangelion and Urusei Yatsura; and your good.

Enter the Darkness...

If Genshiken is your thing, then welcome to the next level. I like to think of this as a "ten years later" kind of story but, of course, more depressingly pitiful. The sheer level of "otakuness" in this manga borders on creepy, but that has its own charm. Unlike Genshiken, Otaku no Musume-san doesn't shy away from the focal point of their obsessions (it starts with a "p" and rhymes with corn!). If you're already into the dark world behind Naruto and One Piece, welcome, and enjoy.

Parenthood vs Ota-ism

Otaku's probably make bad father figures, but in this story, the mother, although not an Ota, has her share of not being a proper mother as well.

Though not very plausible in terms of character and plotlines, it pokes fun at most otaku culture, which makes it a great read for me. Since it is still at it's early stages, it's hard to pass judgement as to how worthy it will be to follow this manga to it's entirety.

For now, the dilemma of the otaku parents to me are hilarious and are a worthy read, even though some punchlines and tsukkomi can be predictable.

For those wanting a perspective (which is by no means definitive in this manga) of otaku culture and the people behind them, this manga certainly is a must read.

I must say I enjoy reading this but then again, I don't think its a manga for everybody to enjoy. You have to have considerable knowledge of otaku culture to really really appreciate the manga. If you're not into that stuff, the manga becomes really dry for you fast.Half the gags are references and otaku life,so its not everybody's cup of tea.

A Disapointment

Gets surprisingly little mileage out of its premise, instead falling back on cheap situational humor and petty drama. The characterizations aren’t very strong either, which prevents it from even being good at light sentimentality. After far too long, it does make a stab developing the main premise, but even then, it relies on platitudes and old gimmicks. It had the chance to seriously contrast stereotypically immature otaku culture with the ultimate adulthood of being a parent, but ends up being nothing but insubstantial fluff.

A whimsical series in the same vein of other Father-Daughter manga like Luck Stealer and My Girl. Worth a look.

This manga is hilarious and a must read if you need to kill time IMO. Plot however is lacking but comedy doesn't need a plot, right? Art is okay, humor is fantastic if you understand what they are talking about. Despite lack of plot, the situation is (for me) original. It's enjoyable. It does have a lot of potential to be dramatic though.
