College freshman and ACG lover Kanji Sasahara settled down his extracurricular activity in Genshiken (The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture) in order to become a true and thorough otaku. Meanwhile, Saki Kasukabe, the girlfriend of another freshman Genshiken member (also a bishounen) Makoto Kohsaka, was dragged into Genshiken's otaku-ish activities reluctantly, yet her resentful attitude towards otakus is changing without her notice.

Daily life of otaku. This is rather strang story because there a lot of charecters and their role is equal. This resemble Shool rumble in some way. But it is seinen and charecters are ordinary otaku.

Ever feel secretly ashamed because you read/love manga and anime, maybe you hide it from friends, even good ones? Stop what you're doing and read this series. Technically, yes it could be better, the art and story, but you can tell it comes from a love and knowledge of being and living for lack of a better word, otaku.

Genshiken is a hilariously funny comedy manga that also delves into the psychology of the otaku. Some of the most interesting characters of any manga that I've ever read are in this series. A must read.

anime was good but manga is much better. not to mention the story goes on after anime finished and new characters appear. very funny and interesting look on the everyday life of the real otakus :-)

This manga is about a group of otaku... what to say, what to say...

The art is clean, clear and good...

The story is slice of life style. No "hero saving the world", no "teenage angst" (thank god!) just the usual life of otakus...

Is it any good?

It's bloody GREAT!

but i cant really give any good point to this series except the art.. the plot is way too boring already after the second chapter, the main chara (is there even one i wonder) does absolutely nothing remarkable throughout the 7 volumes released until now, all the other characters are plain losers , and the situation keeps getting worser by the flowing of the chapters (the only sane girl in the manga gets slowly contaminated by everyone else's stupidity), and the humour is very particular.. bah im not saying this series is trash (even if that may be easily figured reading my comment :-D) but, having a pretty static plot, its a hard one to fully appreciate (BUT then again, thats "slice of life" for you ,folks:-D)

Humble beginnings with a quirky cast, yet somehow it strikes a chord with the target audience. Sometimes you can't always get what you want in life, but try hard enough and you get what you need. Spectacular finish to an interesting case study.

very interesting and informative, at least for me cause this whole Japanese "manga/anime world" is or rather was ;) really unknown to me.
Additionally the humor and characters is/are hilarious.

I think it's great to have manga not about school kids. There seems to be this wierd rule that a main character schould never be over 16. Anyway, the story of an otaku club. Highly recommend.

Edit: Read ending, upgraded from 9 to ten, damm, almost made me cry
