Description
Watanuki Kimihiro is haunted by visions of ghosts and spirits. Seemingly by chance, he encounters a mysterious witch named Yûko, who claims she can help. In desperation, he accepts, but realizes that he's just been tricked into working for Yûko in order to pay off the cost of her services. Soon he's employed in her little shop- a job which turns out to be nothing like his previous work experience!

The title explains it all. xxxHolic is a very good manga to read and as it develops you just get pulled farther into the storyline. At times it can be slightly confusing, but it still works out to be an amazing manga.
First off, I love the story. Most of the mangas that have "Supernatural" in their genre listing turn out to be very creepy and have almost none, if not any, bits of humor in them.(based on personal reading experience) xxxHolic is different though. At times it is spooky enough to send a chill up my spine, while other times it reverts back to being humorous and light hearted. Most of the creepy moments are evened out by the light humor that interferes.
Also, the artwork is gorgeous. I love seeing all of the art they have between chapters that show Yuuko in different outfits and hairstyles. Not one page is done sloppily in this Manga which is really refreshing.
Updating this to be more recent.. It still is an amazing story that I love to read. Slightly depressing, but not very. Just a bit more serious than before. Watanuki has matured greatly, and the story still has room to grow. A Very enjoyable Manga.

i was hooked when i started reading it and sometimes have trouble waiting for the next chapter to come out. it has a creepy feel to it at times, and at others is just... well.. it is one of my favourites. i love it. =)

This is a very strange manga. At the beginning, it's just an a bunch of philosophical dialogue about fate. Then there's a few self-contained stories about human nature. The manga is episodic with no overall plot that I've seen. This supposedly ties with Tsubasa (they both use the same scenes and stuff), but I didn't read Tsubasa, so half of the stuff that happened seemed pointless. I don't know why they even bothered adding those in since the scenes add nothing to the characters in this story.

The main problem is that the pace is very slow and there's no tension at all. People die but the way the present it seems to make seem like no big deal,. Nothing even remotely dangerous happens to the main character until chapter 25 and even then Yuuko's calm demeanor removes any tension. The series is suppose to be a light read but it's so light that it's hard to get interested in the story or characters.

... this manga is better than Tsubasa. i like the artwork for xxxHOLiC MUCH more than Tsubasa's (its more original here) i like the original characters too (not that i dont like the way CLAMP uses their old characters, i just like how they bring new people into it) i also like how (if you read Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC) they use the same stories, just in different orders and in different ways that make you have to look to find something in common. even though i like action and adventure, i also like the supernatural stuff in this manga. i think EVERYONE should read this one!

I really enjoy this series... watanuki jus makes it interesting and i like how you can see how he changes and develops along with the other characters

I am usually not a fan of episodic chapters, but for this I can make a huge exception. Each chapter tells a great story. Telling stories with alot of comedy, and then some that dont end to well for some. It really is a great light read.

This is such a great series, especially paired with Tsubasa. The supernatural aspect is what really makes this as great as it is. It feels a little episodic, and the only real plot seems to be dependent on what happens to the Tsubasa people, but I still love it!

Most of the volumes can be real alone but you just can't stop until you've read all of them! I just love the feel of this story...it's mysterious and intriguing, a little comedy here and there, a little drama, some sad parts. I just wish there was more of a romance but that's just me. smile

If you're not running off to purchase it yet, read it just for Yuko. She's the craziest, most hilarious and cool female anime character. Check it out!

this isnt one of the typical kind of manga there are bits in it that are creepy and twisted it has a very light humor about it but it has really strange bits
its not always a happy ending in each chapter and the deaths that occur here are wierd xxholic sometimes seems more like some kind of mild horror manga all that aside it being a clamp pproduction the art is really good

XXXholic has its bitter elements to it but there is a certain sweetness in a lot of its stories. Be wary though since things can get really confusing and bitter at times. Good art and good overall story. Here's hoping this drama doesn't become too tragic.

If ever there's a manga series that confuddles me, but keeps me riveted at the same time, it's xxxHOLiC. Although there are obvious similarities between HOLiC and a previous CLAMP manga called Legal Drug (its like LD was a practice run for HOLiC), all the storylines and ideas in this manga are so interesting and different to what is normally out there (but so typically CLAMP logic) that it intrigues me to no end. The only (large) drarback with this series is the sporadic releases of the chapters... its been, what, a month since 144? It's like CLAMP's trying to finish Tsubasa before HOLiC -- so the endings are linked then? Who knows... but whatever it is, the ending to HOLiC (whether it be just this arc, or the whole series) will be memorable, and one that will guarantee HOLiC's place as the best manga I've ever read. Go Watanuki!!! 8DDD
