From Tokyopop: For the first 14 years of his life, Yukio Tanaka has been one heck of a boring guy. He has no hobbies, weak taste in music, and only a small vestige of a personality. He yearns for an exciting life, but his shy, and somewhat neurotic personality makes him his own worst enemy. Little does he know that his life will be forever changed when he meets Ryusuke Minami, a wild and unpredictable 16-year old fresh from America, who happens to be in a rock-and-roll band named after his Frankenstein-like patched dog--Beck.

very good character development. I really like how the magnaka is a huge fan of the chili peppers. and the art is superb. great story for any band junkies out there.
i still droll over Lucille wonderful guitar and they look exactly like their real life counterparts.
hell the soundtrack from the anime is great too. I have it on my Ipod
Greatest Music Manga!
When it comes to music, BECK is the best manga there is!
The drawing in the first part is not that good, you'll just have to bare with it for a while.. but as the story goes on the drawing will improve.. a lot, together with the story.

Beck is greate, it's soooo goooood that wen you read it you realy want to hear the music. I just love it.
great engrossing series
As a huge music fan whos tastes span all music genres( except country(>_<) this manga hit all the right chords for me. All of the charactors pull you in and the art really lets you feel the energy from the bands even sans audio
It was good in the beginning..
It was good in the beginning.., but really end up dragging after the US tour, now the main characters are wellmade and the beginning is very well written. However you could skip 2/3 of the chapters and you wouldn't really miss anything story wise (there are many awsome depictions of gigs though)
What really is a shame that although it's a manga about music, it really doesn't teach you anything about music (well expect how a band works together), but I really missed the technical aspect that is often present in manga.
scissor ROCK paper, guess which one
Love it, but reading it during the night vol12, ch35 gave me the creeps. Well I'll edit this comment later after I finish reading it. any way rock manga rocks since I'm a big fan of rock (I love Kamelot and Skillet)
9/10 would be well descibed
The songs: few of the best, especially slip out.
The art: Not so good, i rather the anime art since it is more presentable.
the plot: goes well smoothly, i like how there is love, yet does not focus on it too much.
the characters: Koyuki is just too cute, ryousuke really cool, saku so loyal, taira is the intellect, and kiba is the reliable punk. All characters holds their own characteristics that you learnt o identify and love.
I've stopped reading BECK and am waiting patiently (ok, no so patiently) for the own series to be released >_<
9/10, for everything i've mentioned, it gets a 8/10, the extra one point would be for the amazing songs. The missing point would be that this anime/manga could be better, amazing, but not to the point of a 10. My 10 would be for the classics, like Hikaru no Go, Romeo Blue Skies, 12 kingdoms, legend of basara, etc.
beck's a great story. its really inspiring and down to earth. the day to day crap was really relatable and was almost enjoyable to watch because even though bad things happens to koyuki (i think he even says at some point 'when it rains it really pours for me' or something) he still doesn't get majorly depressed and looks at the situation positivevly. i also thought that the passion for music was sucessfully transferred to the reader and at some points i really wanted to pick up a guitar and start playing, though i don't know how. some of the ways they related to the american music industry was kind of gimmicky, but it was pulled off a lot better than i've seen else where, like they won't just throw out some musician's name just so that the reader's like 'ooo they know who that is!!!' which i find largly annoying, but the people they did encorperate were given a couple of lines to expalin who they were and how they fit into the story so it wasn't that bad. the story did feel like it was dragging on in some places, but those were usually the places that the guitar guy was being a douche, but it gets resolved so i guess you just have to suffer through it (though the story usually makes up for the suffering, and i guess it could be seen as a good kind of tension). i'm not done it yet so i don't know if i'm satisfied with it yet, but there are a few indicators of a happy ending so i think it'll pay off. so to sum up... give this one a shot.
this a cool anime
