A hopeless bruiser, he's been rejected by 50 girls in a row! All that changes when he meets the girl of his dreams, Haruko, and she's actually not afraid of him! When she introduces him to the game of basketball, his life is changed forever...

In 1995 Slam Dunk received the 40th Shogakukan Manga Award for shounen.
Phenomenal manga. I am reading this for the 3rd time and I still cannot get sick of it. The character development, the plot, the games; I can't express in words how good this manga is.
It doesn't matter if you don't really understand BasketBall or not to enjoy this manga. Some chapters are so hilarious. I keep on laughing throughout the chapter.
incredible! this series really moved me, and is still my favorite manga series to date. the story is absolutely hilarious, and even while the games are going on, there are fantastically touching scenes. the only downside would probably be the fact there are many characters who have the potential for character development, but takehiko doesnt explore them at all. but the development for the main character outshadows that by far. Ten points!
well, maybe story is realistic but players all good players come from nba like sendoh shot after he switched hands. it was mj s muv of course who wants to watch untalanted players? so many thinks nothing to do with basketball but it was funny thats all
no more less than 10-rated... i love inoue's idea in making basketball game funnier & lovable... i heard that bcos of Slam Dunk, the rate of people playing basketball in Japan increased... it just proved that this manga is inspiring people & even around the world... i love sakuragi's wackiness.. he never get serious, though.. lol
I don't understand why people would rate this manga 1, and no explanation on top of that. It's definitely one of the best manga ever, and one of my favorites. It's a classic, and the fact that it's not typical like other sport manga is more reason to love it. And as some comments said, the ending is absolutely amazing!
I would love if there's gonna be Slam Dunk II (I'm sure other fans also ^_^), because I want to see more team work from Sakuragi-Rukawa. I want to see Shohoku rules with those two as the pillars. As Anzai-sensei said, they could be the number one pair in the country.
Great sports manga. Very funny but also sad.... maybe not for everyone but there were some sad passages which nearly made me cry.... essecially this *peep* ending... i nearly killed myself, but hey to be able to get those emotions out of his reader, INOUE Takehiko is simply great !!
still hoping for a continuation of this masterpiece !
This is the pinnacle of the sports manga genre. Perfection in every sense of the word. Art isn't so hot in the beginning, but it becomes incredible later on, as is the plot. Its the one manga that keeps me rereading (5 times at last count). Only problem i have with it is its rather abrupt ending, though on retrospect, thats the only way it could end. Just wished it hadnt. Must read for every manga reader, bball fan or not.
this is the best series ever made, back when it was made it was way ahead of its time, fans are still pouring in, even though its been completed for so long...this is the perfection of sports manga
