I'm really interested in the results of this poll. After all, if we were really doing our job and reporting all rules-breaking posts...well, the forum would have looked a bit different ( not to mention some ppl would have like 10 posts instead of

( none of my threads was locked before...if you flame/spam it and it gets locked...well, you know what goes after that statement...it involves pain, suffering and slow death )

I guess I'm technically new here so neither knew nor felt the need to report a post yet.

Option #4 - I report double posts, those that are clearly breaking rules, & those that are obnoxious flames with no relationship whatsoever to the topic. Anything that I'm not 100% sure needs mod attention, I leave alone.

I don't personally waste my time reporting. Nobody likes a snitch. Plus, if you sign on to be a moderator you should know what you are getting into.
That aside, one of the more annoying issues that are going on with the site, IMO, is that the staff removed the download links of licensed manga... but hey, if this helps keep the site not getting on the wrong side of the law it's a good thing. Nobody wants to see Baka-Updates closed.

It can be annoying to sometimes find the links ourselves, especially when some scanlating groups have no website or IRC info, but I guess this is just one of the trade offs for even having this site. It's a wonderful resource.

Double posts get reported. Idiots advertising on the site get reported. People asking for downloads get told to read the rules and reported. Flamers, at least the really extreme ones, get reported. Yes, I use the report function on occasion.

It's not about being or not being a snitch... A snitch is hated because it is someone who refuses to stand for himself and always hide under a higher authority. Which reporting posts might look like it, I admit. Except that isn't really the case...

The only thing you can do here to "fight" to keep MU the way you want it to be (free of spam, ads, and flames) is to report the posts that break the rules.
It's not at all similar to the situation where 2 kids are having their little fight and one runs to mommy. It's more like the situation where someone sees a crowd of pyromaniacs burning everything in the neighborhood with flame throwers so he calls for the cops/firefighters.

Anyway, we'd all appreciate it a lot if you use the report feature more often. And don't worry for your fellow spamers, we don't kill them just because you reported them... actually the faster the situation is dealt with, the less likely we are to take drastic measures. (Except for ad-spamers we show no mercy)

I have a question.

Is the report option just to inform the admins about posts that break the rules, or it can also be used to highlight some things.

For example:

I wish for my poll to be locked and I post saying: "Please lock this poll because it's time expired" and then I report my own post to gain attention from an admin.

Is that possible?
