A very dark request this time...

I'm looking for a manga of ANY genre (except hentai), wherein the protagonist has to deal with finding out that their loved one was raped or sexually abused in the past (or is being raped/abused in the present).

This "loved one" could be their lover or spouse, or maybe even a really close relative (e.g. their own child or sibling) or someone else that they sincerely care about and are devoted to in one form or another. How does the protagonist deal with the trauma of discovering that their loved one was subjected to such a horrific experience? Coping with this discovery should be one of the MAIN THEMES of the manga, not just a minor theme.

What does NOT count: Starting to care for this person after finding out that they were sexually assaulted. The discovery should happen once a close emotional bond (romantic or otherwise) is already established and underway.

Oh, and... Please do NOT recommend manga in which rape is glamorized, sexualized or portrayed as something "erotic" or "romantic". Rape should be treated strictly as an act of violence and despicable cruelty, not as something ambiguously desirable. Can't stand that kind of glamorization...

When recommending manga, I would really appreciate it if you could also specify what kind of "loved one" this particular manga deals with - e.g. relative or lover or childhood friend, etc.

Some examples from BL, since it's the genre I'm most familiar with:

Sad (Lovely) Words - the protagonist falls in love with a sweet-natured mute boy, only to discover after their relationship starts that the boy's muteness is not biological, but the result of a past of systematic incestuous abuse.

Rika the Breeder - the protagonist was traumatized after witnessing his mother's rape, and that trauma has shaped his entire outlook and approach to life. Plus, he randomly has these odd panic attacks, like he starts hyperventilating and wheezing and coughing... Major lifelong trauma.

Your Sweet Whispering in My Arms Again - again, the protagonist was traumatized after being kidnapped along with his mother and forced to witness her rape (from close enough to get the, um, fluids on his face), and only his new relationship with his current lover has begun to help him recover emotionally.

A Cruel God Reigns - a young man discovers that his father had in fact raped his own step-son (the young man's step-brother), who in turn had ended up killing their father in desperation, just to be free of that abuse. The discovery is horrifying on several levels, since the discovery was of one "trusted" relative raping another relative...

More stories like these, please, but from any genre. The only requirement is that they seriously deal with a loved one's rape.

Bitter Virgin here's one, it's a seinen manga that deals with exactly that, there's a few more, will try to remember what their names are, though they're not exactly dealing with rape oriented, anyways hope you like it ^^

I really do appreciate your recommendation, Kiks! However, it does not count (read my post), as the protagonist only gets interested in the girl after discovering that she was raped. In my request, I ask specifically that a relationship already be underway when the discovery takes place - and in this case, far from a relationship being underway, even a romantic interest didn't start until after the discovery.

I'm looking forward to any other recommendations you might have, though. Thanks for taking the effort! 🙂

Personally I agree with you completely. Rape or sexual abuse are matters that shouldn't be treated so lightly like they are in shoujo manga. I know- one of my friends was raped a few years back, and it was traumatising for her.

Technically speaking, "Berserk" fits. The scene in question definitely wasn't glamorized.
Edit: For a manga not listed in the link Renesmee37 provided, " Threads of Time" also fits. However, I remember disliking the resolution of the story-line of one of the victims. You also might

Yami no Matsuei; Main character is working with a partner that he cares deeply about(we never really get to know if it's romantic or not, but it is heavily implied.) and find out that he was brutally raped as a 13 year old.

Let Dai also fits your demands perfectly. Main character's girlfriend get's gang-raped by his current friend/boyfriend/abuser/rapists friends and said boyfriend did nothing to stop it. So it deals with the girls ex's feelings about it, her sister(wich is a main too)'s and parents feelings around the subject and her current love interests feelings about it. They all find out on different places in the story.
Beautifull manga that is highly reccomended.

Other ones that might fit is Animal X(This might seem cracky, but it deals with rape extremely realisticly. ) Main character gets raped on several places in the story and her(is intersexed, but later more female than male as such I will use female pronouns) lover and friend/guy that's in love with her find out.

And BrotherXBrother; Well there are three "brothers"(Non of them are blood related or grew up together, but legally they are brothers) two of those brothers find out that the third one was sexually abused by his mothers lover. It's actually one of the main themes in the manga.

Some that might fit, but not perfectly are these;
Tadayoedo Shizumazu, Saredo Naki mo Sezu- One shot, Main character tells his best friend he was sexually abused as a child.

Double call - Later in the series the main character have to tell his lover that he was gang-raped as the reason for why he cant have sex without seeing his partners face.

Transfigured Night - Boy that was sexually abused by his older sister. His older sisters husband finds out. (From the creater of Rika the breeder)

Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari
Deep Love - Host (The above's sequel.)

New york New york by ragawa marimo totally corresponds to your description. but you'd better prepare some tissues next to you cause this isn't a light read. but i liked it.

Gorgeous Carat - it's a shounen ai. I'm in the middle of reading now (the things you described start in volume 2) so I don't know how it ends. I'd like to write more, but when I tried I realised that I would have to describe everything that happens in the manga and give you huge spoilers 🙂

I would have to suggest 100% Perfect Girl. It's a shoujo manwha I've only just finished today (and I absolutely adored!)

The main guy's fiancée's rape (or rather, much much later we find out nothing really happened but that's hardly relevant) by the guy's half brother (and arch-enemy) is dealt with in a very realistic, angsty way (including a suicide attempt), and though the main character is often violent and possessive (and actually ends up pretty much raping the girl himself), the act is never glorified in any way (get ready because the two main characters have a very twisted, violent, cruel love-hate relationship)

It's a very dramatic, psychological manwha. Much like Mars which has already been mentioned.

Another very good, psychological manga which I think will be exactly what you're looking for is Kiss in the Blue.
