All the time.
Pity it's taken a hit, because I still prefer it over forums and other ways of communicating. Nice and minimal + lots of downloads.
I only use irc to download stuff... It's so much better than ddl, although I still prefer torrenting.

Yeah, only to download stuff, although that's quite rare. Only if the group only releases their scanlations via IRC, or they release first on IRC and then host it on their site after a waiting period. IRC isn't so hard to use but I find it tedious opening up the client, connecting to server, connecting to channel, then looking up bot names and pack numbers... if there's a choice, I'd rather DDL.
I suppose it's dying as a chat client, but for file sharing, particularly in scanlation, it remains fairly convenient and discreet. I don't know anyone who's ever used it for chatting, there are so many alternatives which are more accessible to the average internet user. It's not the most user-friendly interface. I remember I deliberately avoided it for several years because I thought it was too complicated for me to learn to use.

Yeah, I use it more for chatting than downloading.

I use it since some streaming sites use it for the chats. It is still one of the most popular chat platforms when you want large channels.
Oh and I occasionally use irc bots to download stuff. I probably use it ~3 times a month instead of always having it running as I used to.

can someone explain what irc is?
Haven't been using IRC for a while now since I haven't been into manga lately to DL from #lurk

You know, using google yourself to search for these things would be easier and go a lot faster than waiting for someone to answer in a forum thread.
Used to be always, now only sometimes so I can stop by and say hi to friends.
