On May 25 2023 Takanashi and Cocohona (Shueisha) announced via their X/Twitter accounts (@mitsuba527 and @Cocohana_manga, respectively) that "Otome Tsubaki wa Warawanai" would be on hiatus while Takanashi underwent surgery and recovery for breast cancer. On October 28 2023, also via X/Twitter, Takanashi and Cocohana updated that the series would return with chapter 41 in Cocohana's November 2023 issue. As of July 2024 Takanashi has used the same platform to share several health updates, including reassuring test results and encouraging future prognosis, with fans.
