Within the series information pages, we have added a new input field called "Type". This will classify the series. Currently, the types we have are: manga, doujinshi, drama cd, manhwa, manhua, and artbook. As of right now, the field doesn't actually do anything, but we're planning to add helpful search features in the near future.
To those of you that wish to help this site out, please visit the series page of everything you know/like and change the "Type" field to the correct listing. All series default to "manga", so don't bother changing any series listing that's a manga.
On further note, we admins are in current debate on how to deal with oneshots...Leave these under the type "manga" for now.
For those of you that do not know, manhwa is basically Korean manga, while manhua is the Chinese kind.
Drama CD is a new one in preparation for adding groups that translate dramas by listening to them and writing down the English into some form of text file. This was specifically requested by one such group.
As a reminder, we only allow things that are translated into English. We will not add any Spanish, Italian, French, etc translations. OEL (Original English Language) stuff is allowed that is published by real companies such as Tokyopop or Seven Seas.
Also, we do not allow pure text translations of manga. It must be a scanlation and not just a translation.
And as a third reminder, we are currently not allowing fan-created things to be listed, such as things like Naruto NG or The Genderblending of Haruhi Suzumiya.
And last of all, we have some new search features for the forum. More information here: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=7447
Edit:
"Artbook" has been added to the "Type" field
We are currently allowing OEL (Original English Language) stuff that is published by real companies such as Tokyopop or Seven Seas

Simple yes/no poll from ahoaho this time around. Do you ever get tired about manga? I must admit, I do...Sometimes, whatever I read just gets boring, and something more exciting catches my attention (like a game or a novel).
You can discuss this on our forums here:

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Do you read comics (American, European, etc) as well?
Choices:
Yes - votes: 3139 (33%)
No - votes: 5563 (58.5%)
I would like to try, but they're not available at all for me - votes: 804 (8.5%)
There were 9506 total votes.
The poll ended: August 23rd 2008
Well, as expected to me, "no" is more popular. But we still got a sizable amount that says "yes". Some of the comics in the newspapers are quite amusing. And there's always been the recent influx of comic readers because of movies like Superman, Batman, Spiderman, or even something like Wanted...
As for the 804 people that voted that they're not available but would still like to read them, you're not looking hard enough on the internet. You can find comics on the net just like manga...
This new poll was suggested by Highway-STAR. It's a very easy one to answer, so I hope we get lots of people~ (I apologize to the 22 people who voted before I realized that I broke the site layout with the new poll...vote again, please!)

Question: Your optimal manga chapter length?
Choices:
About 18 pages (standard weekly series) - votes: 392 (4.2%)
Maybe 25 pages~ - votes: 1484 (15.8%)
Around 35 pages... - votes: 2028 (21.5%)
Circa 45 pages? - votes: 987 (10.5%)
Whooping 55+ pages! - votes: 1636 (17.4%)
I really don't care... - votes: 2893 (30.7%)
There were 9420 total votes.
The poll ended: August 16th 2008
Well now, so most people tend to not care (probably as long as the chapter length is reasonable for the amount of story given). Other than that, most people seem to dislike the short amount of 18-ish pages, the typical length of a weekly released series. Around 35 pages got quite a large number of votes still...
Before I talk about the old/new polls, let's remember that this weekend is Otakon 2008! It's the largest convention on the East Coast (I think...). We have a discussion thread about it here: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=4637. As a footnote, site creator Manick is attending Otakon, but I don't think he wants any site visitors to recognize him...Don't worry, next year at AnimeExpo, I'll be happy to talk with any of you guys~
And...why shouldn't I give some attention to the 2008 Summer Olympics? If you haven't seen the opening ceremonies yet, you REALLY should watch it in whatever possible form of media you have access to. The sheer impressive nature, beauty, difficulty of coordinating such a show, and engineering marvels is awesome. With that said, that does not mean I endorse China's views on political reasoning. I am just stating that the opening ceremony was a good show to watch.
Now for the poll. This poll is a special request from a personal friend of mine by the name of Tiffany (there's your shout-out, so don't bug me anymore). If the poll utterly phails, then blame her. Easy enough poll to answer, so there should be no problems there...

There were 9998 total votes.

I was expecting these results, but was more interested in the number of people that voted on the other options. Interestingly, we were 2 votes away from 10,000 people...but I couldn't wait...
Yes! I'm not late for once! This new poll was submitted for kaghanyou who apparently made his first forum post the suggestion for this poll. (I hope he's using our other member-only features though). As for all you people reading this that aren't registered: registration is easy and free!
Anyways, on with the poll. Pretty simple one about how anime/manga might/might not have influenced you to learn a language. As for me, I'm sad to admit this, but I'm in the category of "Not even trying. It's too hard!"...

Kinda lame poll in my opinion, but for so many people to vote on it, I guess it wasn't...I apologize to all those who ARE the parents and couldn't exactly vote in this poll. I forgot to leave a voting option for you guys...
But as the poll suggests, most of us don't discuss our hobbies with our parents anyways...

This new poll was submitted by bunnyhugger (yeah, interesting name...). Poll's about what your parents think about your manga/anime habits (although the poll only specifically says manga to save some space...)

Wow, quite a lot of us have at least some manga in our local libraries. That's a good thing! Means that manga's getting more popular as time goes on...
Now, the number depressing fact about this poll is that lots of people don't even VISIT the library anymore (although I'm wondering how many people jokingly voted for the last option...). Reading a good old novel is good too, ya know!
Alright, I missed it by a day...(For some reason, I kept thinking it was supposed to be July 22...)
Anyways! Happy birthday to us~ We're still around to bring you the latest and greatest in manga goods! This last year has been our largest year of growth, especially in the forums.
May we continue getting better and better.
crosses fingers for v2 of the site

Remember the t-shirts I mentioned last time? Manick doesn't wanna release them early before v2 of the site, so I guess you guys are gonna have to wait...
PS: Thanks for all the b-day greetings last week~
I gotta figure out Manick's birthday next...
Weekly Poll
This week's new poll suggested by member juliab is on a slightly more serious note. How stocked in manga is your local library? Unless you live in Japan maybe...
Wait, do you guys even visit the library? I know some of you guys are on the computer 24/7...You even read a real book within the last few months? DEPRIVED PEOPLE!

Wow, pretty varied poll for once. After some of the comments you guys made, I should've put an option for "All of the above". Well, as you can see, most people dislike the long drawn out plots. I wonder...if it's a long series but the plot ISN'T long and drawn out, would you still like it?
Birthday!
Yup, it's my birthday today~ So happy birthday to me! Adding this kind of news about myself is just one of the perks of being an admin, haha. And yes, I turned 18, so I'm finally legal...
Site News
For site news, I have a further update on the next version of our site. Originally, we were hoping it'd be ready by BU/MU's birthday, which is July 22, but it appears we won't meet that deadline. Our future projection date as of now is around the Christmas season. It sounds pretty late, I know...
However! I just started testing (spent 2 hrs yesterday) our beta (alpha?) forum for v2 of the site! Most likely in the future we'll begin recruiting people to help with all the testing. I'll keep you guys posted.
Last of all, the t-shirts. I'm hoping we'll be able to push out the t-shirts before the opening of v2 of the site (which as stated before will probably be around Christmas time), but no promises. I'll have to discuss more about this with Manick
Weekly Poll
This week's poll was brought to you by l3ongl3oi. Basically, choose the type of manga that you hate the most. Lovely poll, eh? (The option of "Other" was purposely left out since too many people would probably choose it...and that wouldn't be helpful now, would it?)
Come and discuss your love/hate for this poll: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=6574
PS: We're running out of poll ideas, so if you got any suggestions, come here: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Question: Do you attend anime/manga conventions? (Like AnimeExpo, Otakon, San Diego Comic-Con, etc)
Choices:
Sure! What better way to meet fans? - votes: 1419 (18.6%)
Nah, that's lame - votes: 1759 (23.1%)
I would if there was one close to me (but there isn't) - votes: 4434 (58.3%)
There were 7612 total votes.
The poll ended: July 12th 2008
I wish more people went to conventions, but it appears most people don't really have access to one. Get some travel plans, people! Get off the computer and go outside!
