Description
Giant Step is a shounen, sports comedy. With it's relation to Prince of Tennis being in some of the art of attacks and their relation to tennis. If you have already read Prince of Tennis or even a little bit of it and it was too serious for you then Giant Step would be good to check out.

Baby Steps and Prince of Tennis are better choices for tennis manga. Days, All Out!!, Eyeshield 21, Hajime no Ippo, Tetsuwan Girl, Meister, Ookiku Furikabutte, Whistle!, etc are all better as sports manga in general.
This main character has incredibly prodigious talents on the basis of being a genius. No other explanation. He's just pro-level bc he's the main character. The mangaka attempts to retcon his inexperience by claiming he's been training at a wrestling gym to up his strength, but that's not much of an explanation for his tennis skills.
The actual matches in the more recently translated chapters aren't bad, but... the women and girls in this are little more than objects for lonely weebs to fantasize about.
I don't have a very high bar when it comes to the portrayal of female characters in shounen, but this series is tasteless.
There are inexplicable changing room scenes with random high school girls in their underwear.
The female lead/romantic interet is a caricature of a blushing/crushing teen who fawns over the MC.
The female coach is introduced in a miniskirt and lab coat(??) with a cat clawing at her breasts (with another character commenting on the uselessness of a female coach and apologizing bc she cries).
Half of the comedy is based on how the male lead finds "manly", indelicate girls attractive while calling conventially beautiful females ugly.
There's even a scene a girl is changing in her room while speaking to her FATHER, and she's in her bra and panties, and the father comes in without permission while she's undressed bc that's funny somehow.
Only real positive is that the artwork is fairly good.
Over all? Not worth the time.

points for an original opening. cute childhood friend says shyly, "will you marry me one day?" main character replies, "no way. you're ugly." haha, i've never read a manga where the main's idea of a pretty girl is the judo players.

Very good manga from the 5 chapters I read so far, interesting, and funny. I advise anyone with a little bit of free time to take a look into this if you like a bit of tennis, or sports in general. Although it's only 5 chapters, it's good, and I just hope more will come out soon =}
