Great read, but...

I just think there could have been more. It was a great read don't get me wrong, I just feel it had the potential to be a much longer series. Maybe follow more of their journey and relationship. The premis is definetly there for at least a couple more volumes.

Once again, the MU membership manages to astound me with its weirdly high scores and gushing comments on utterly mediocre series.

The plot has been done countless times before, and what few points of originality it had (the Church's endgame, whether or not there are any other Undying left, how they might escape being hunted for good, how they were originally created and controlled) were left completely unexplored.

The characters are archetypical in a way that makes them all too easy to confuse with those from other "seeing ghosts" series. The ghosts' personalities are woefully underdeveloped and we know so little about their (past) lives that it's very difficult to feel anything at all for their deaths. And the series relies on that for much of its emotional impact, so...

The villain is boring, and his sudden obsession with Kieli reeks of a cliché love/lust triangle that in this case doesn't even get points for effort because it was so half-hearted and came out of left field. The Kieli x Harvey relationship was the typical "I met you just a few days ago but I'm already willing to die for you" type you see in the majority of romance fiction.

As for the pros: I like Kieli's personality. The Corporal's and Harvey's backstories are touching, and some of the ghosts are pretty cute.

I have no idea whether the source novel is worth a read or not, but I can recommend this manga adaptation only to those who have plenty of spare time on their hands and no better series to spend it on.

It might put you off if you intertwined it with your own faith.
Definitely the setting in the story can be reflected to the real world.
Such idealistic approach makes me enthralled...maybe I gave to much meaning into the story line but it's really a good read.
Everything makes sense.

Like CurlyJoe at first i was strongly put off by the description. But after finishing it I can't really express what kind of feelings it leaves in the reader. it I had to chose the right word I guess I would pick nostalgic? The past and present are equally important, and memories and loss are the main subjects.
It also deals with moral issues - it depicts how the role of the undead changed during the time and what were the reasons behind it. It just about covers what the real ideologies/governments do, which is .. sad to say the least.
The art is pretty, the characters are strong and different, also there are both sad and happy moments, there ones when you laugh and when you want to cry.
It makes you feel and think, which are for me the qualities of a great story.

This manga was so beautiful. Most I just pick up, have a romantic gigle, and forget about it. This was dark, sad, and intelligent. I certainly won't forget about this soon. The characters didn't have as much romance as I hoped for...but them passionately making out would somehow have ruined the dynamic. When you read that it's a girl that sees ghosts, you think Oh, ANOTHER one confused This one's different though. It's dark, gothic and genuinely sad. I don't even like angst and I loved this one. I doubt I'll ever find something like this again.

Well...the subject for this comment says it all!! It was magnificent! I love the art and the plot and the ending is just right. The only thing that disappoints me is that this manga covers only the first volume of the novel. I would like to see more (I'd like to read the novel too ^-^)!

I swear, I fell in love with this story. It's heartbreakingly beautiful.

The art is nothing special, but it fits the story well. It really is... Vivid. The character designs are distinguishable and show off personality. The backgrounds and settings are good also. Like I said, nothing special.

The storyline, however, is magnificent. Truly original, though I found it a bit predictable. It was very heart-warming in many scenes. I nearly cried in some occasions. The ending was perfect. I also liked how the author switched between both main characters' point of views which let me see their thoughts on each other and how everything is affecting them.

Overall, an absolute must-read!

Awwww, this was a good one. Some action, some romance, some supernatural creepiness, some sweetness (without being too cheesy), some blood but not overly much, characters you can't help but love for the short time we knew them, and some pretty art. I was intrigued by the idea of the "undying" and Harvey in general. It was fun to see how he grew and developed as a character as the series progressed and though I wish I could have seen more romance (coughshouldakissedcough), that's just me being greedy. The climax was exciting and the ending was satisfactory and left me with a good finished feeling.

it's adventurous, fun, and humorous with wonderful art! even though it's a short series, the characters are very well-developed and you really feel for Harvey and what he's gone through. the chemistry between the two main characters is filled with a light atmosphere and you can see just how much they care and value each other as the story progresses. just loved it! smile
