In short - it's bad.
This is collection of one shots. The plot isn't dumb itself but there's so many twists in the plot, so many unnecessary characters who appear only for one or two pages and don't bring anything, they appear suddenly and with no reason and then they vanish also without reason... those stories starts in the middle of nowhere and ends up on nothing... it feels like the mangaka was trying to break a contract. It's about 5 couples for one chapter! Ridiculous. How deep of a story you can write with only 8 pages for a couple? and it's not even about sex, there's no sex at all. Moreover the art is average. It's just no good. I don't get half of these stories and the whole idea to put as much characters as possible into one chapter. I couldn't stomach it. It's lacking of everything.

I do not recommend this, sorry.

This comment and rating are based on my impressions of the first 4 short-stories only.

I agree with what MightyMaeve noted in her comment. Watashi no Kakurega e Douzo is, for the most part, a series of one-shots that depict touching (and occasionally comedic) friendships between different pairs of men; not romantic relationships. Granted, the characters are so devoted to each other that one can easily see things that way if she wanted to; but it's frankly quite unnecessary, and in my opinion would devalue the quality of the stories.

Venez Chez Moi (Welcome to My Sanctuary) comprises four short and sweet stand-alone episodes strung together by means of an elite bar and the good-natured bartender who serves in it. The plots are simple and largely predictable; but since these tales are reflections on human emotions and not actual mysteries, the predictability was not the least bit unfavourable - at least in my eyes.

World Market - The unfolding of events was slightly too fast-paced, resulting in a lack of coherence to the characters and their interactions. Nevertheless, the conclusion was enjoyable and amusing. In hindsight, I felt that the rapid course of the story was quite fitting, and worked well at portraying the "fast-and-furious" life-style of those residing in Tokyo's back-alleys.

Dancing in the Snow - One of the most unique ghost stories I've read. Fan of supernatural themes that I am, this is a difficult compliment to gain from me. The trio from So wa Reirei no Yuki ni Mai do make an appearance here - but it's not necessary to read the original manga in order to comprehend or enjoy this chapter. I still recommend attempting the main story, though - while being much stronger on the shounen-ai front, it also has an unexpectedly original plot.

Inhale and Exhale - My uncontested favourite in this collection. I may be unfairly biased due to my affection for both workaholics and 'rivals' who are actually best friends; but this story really captivated me. The beauty in Oguri and Himeno's interactions is something that has to be seen for yourself, so it's pointless going into detail about it here.

All in all: a truly lovely collection, one of my favourites from this mangaka.

A Great Collection: More Shoujo/Shounen Ai Implied

1. Interwoven beautifully. A touching, gently revealing of 'connection' and 'friendship' through beautifully, softly illustrated stories.
2: World Market: I found this one a bit confusing with all the lively gossiping family(?) and friends(?) that surround the protagonist. It deals with 'cockfighting' and has humourous moments. There was no real yaoi pairing in this one. It was more like a slice-of-life in the writer's life and how/why his writing improved.
3. Dancing in the Snow, Ghost and Misty Moon Night It has a feel of the 'continuing adventures' of our three intrepid, eclectic mystery solvers from its canon tankobon. The mystery is fleshed out with insight and depth, clichés are no where to be found, and it intrigued me from start to finish. It had humour, mystery, and even a little lesson about Japanese spiritual beliefs. What it doesn't have is yaoi. One particularly potent illustration was the 'ghost' walking around with the little spirits surrounding him.
4. Inhale and Exhale: Again, this one is about two best friends, not lovers; in fact, one of them had a wife. It was beautiful how the two artists worked together and interacted together as they filled a void within one another.
5. Overflowing Swimming Pool (Extra) A sweet little smexin in this one (very brief and shounen ai style) happens in this extra offering to As the Pool Overflows with Water. Meep! What is this? An overtly homosexual relationship?! But it makes sense, since its canon story is clearly yaoi. Read alone, it is mostly pointless. I think it was really meant as an fan appeaser/teaser for those crying out for more from her original 1997 story.
