There are three series of Baki, this one is Baki, the 2nd one.
1-Baki the Grappler(1991-1999) 42 volumes
2-New Grappler Baki(1999-2005) 31 volumes
3-Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre (2005-12-05) 37 volumes

Baki Hanma is a generally happy student with a rather odd hobby; he likes fighting. Specifically, he likes fighting in a secret martial arts tournament that gathers the greatest fighters of the world and pits them against each other in really nasty combat. New Grappler Baki takes off where the original series leaves off. As the new Tournament champion, he's generally taken it easy until he recieves the news of five deadly, murderous, martial artist who have escaped their prisons and are now headed to Japan. Baki and his friends must deal with them before they are killed themselves. New Grappler Baki introduces new characters, new techniques, and begins to resolve the conflict between Baki and his father.

the first 20 volumes of this is just random fights for the sake of fighting
there is no logic
ppl just meet and fight most of the time for no reason[that is explained]
the main character Baki is hardly in it
the first "arc" of the manga just fades out
around volume 20 we have a new tournament,,,finally...we have a story and we kind of care again for the main character

it is not as good as Grappler Baki not even close
but the last 10 volumes are atleast OK

i must say that the whole Yujiro loving muhammed ali is just so out of place for the character of yujiro
it felt like that was the worst retconning a character ever got

Most people are like "Too Fantasy Like" when they rather read Mangas that's more fantasy like Naruto,Bleach,Inuyasha,Death Note bla bla bla. That's BS.
The thing is, haters just can't take the brutal and hardcore-ness Baki The Grappler has. You should also be happy that the fighters are wearing TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS CLOTHING while having a massacre.
Most Mangas just put Bikinis and Robotic outfits -.-
But yeah, and Keisuke Itagaki is an awesome Badass who understands Martial Arts and Manga/Anime at the same time.

I admit, I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. Baki-series is probably the best martial arts manga ever. I understand people who don't like Itagaki's style, but who demands you to read his manga - there's plenty of other series... Full 10

This manga is over the top violence, it is enjoyable if you like some extreme martial arts. It doesn't have much plot going for it but Baki trying to get his revenge is captivating enough to keep you hooked. The art is something you have to get used on however, at least in my case it was. The way he draws the bodies and chins really put me of at first till I got used to it.

Excellent. Although why the heck is this Shounen? Everything about it screams Seinen.. aside from the young main characters, that is.

Anyway, I really love this manga. Its a nice, enjoyable, decently violent read if you are feelin' like a bit of fighting. Actually, its quite similar to Berserk, although instead of a huge-ass sword they have huge-ass fists/bodies, and instead of killin' monsters they are killin' eachother. XD =D

Side question: Why did they do this one first, instead of Grappler Baki? Now I have to read it backwards..

It's not nearly the senseless fighting manga you've thought

Quite like Berserk or Claymore, or Ippo actually. Once you get past the explosive fighting you will find a core of philosphical thoughts lie very well hidden. That which can draw you in and make you interested.

Not like those fighting manhwa though. Never fear about that.

Best fighting manga for me

It's a great fighting series with more detail and thought involved for its fights than you would see in other martial arts manga. It doesn't try to make use of spirit energy type stuff nor any school girls pwning a bunch of guys they have no business even messing with, but that's what makes it all the more special. Definitely recommended to all MMA fans and just about any fans of fighting and martial arts action in general.

And too fantasy, no, there's no actual show of police officers deciding that pulling out a gun would be pointless. Nothing of that sort is ever actually shown on a constant basis.

at first i liked it and thought that it is a good fighting manga but as the story progress the characters become superhuman creatures who can do fast anything (police don't even think to use guns against them, I mean there is a character who killed or beat up police officers, and instead shooting him they just try to restrain him +that character used the japan prison as a boarding house [broke out than went back to sleep thereo.o.)
