Description

the story WAS SOO GOOD for likte hte first sesason. idk abt the other ones bc the comments were saying its bad and i di d get the feeling it started getting cliche after a while. DEF STILL READ THO. its so worth it just drop it later on

Lame Ending

This is just straight up misery lit, which would have been fine if there was actual payoff, but they rushed the ending to be a typical happily ever after. Like, if this was written to be a tragedy, which seemed to be the direction in the beginning, this would have been peak for sure.

Honestly, it was promising at first since she seemed to be a mentally strong FL. However, it kinda went down a bit through the next seasons than I expected. It went cliche. Tho I don't mind cliche so long as it's properly executed but some dialogues and scenes cringes me for a josei work.

Love the artsyle tho. I love Chloe's character design. She's so beautiful. The ML is not that bad of a beauty--probably just not my type.

Compared to other toxic works that I've read, this was tolerable since he doesn't feel that infuriating to me. I was more frustrated with Chloe getting easily defeated at one chapter.

It was a fair read all in all.

The chapters though seem short seeing as you can finish this in an entire day if you have a lot of time. You can give this a chance, but I'm not so enthusiastic to recommend it to you.

The only uncommon plot I could separate this from other works is that FL has leg disability + simple medical knowledge in a non-fantasy world of marriage agreement trope.

As you can see the story started really great. Damien (ML) is a compelling male lead and way too often misunderstood. Let's be clear, he is a manipulative bstrd with toxic tendencies. But contrary to some other MLs from dark romance, he is not abusive, nor a tyrant.

I kept the story on my to read list for the longest. I was very hesitant to read it and nearly dropped it from my list because the comments described Damien as this ML who likes to torment and bully FL relentlessly. That's not true. Damien is calculative yes, the author doesn’t hide that fact. He’s an assh*le through and through. Yet he is the only one who sees Chloe for what she really is, an intelligent, bright, wise, capable and graceful woman. He knows her value, he knows her potential he knows that she’s not just a poor, pitiful crippled woman who can’t do things on her own. He hates that people treat her like a wallflower and even more that she considers herself like one and lower herself. That's why he keeps pushing her, in his own twisted and harsh ways.

As for Chloe (FL), I wouldn't have been able to read this story without her. Way too often, authors write dark romance with red flag / dark flag ML paired up with a weak and defenseless FL. It's like watching a poor puppy getting kicked by a man over and over again. it's not enjoyable for me.

But in this case, Chloe knows how to defend herself and doesn’t fall too quickly for Damien. Truly the only way for me to read this type of story is if FL can go toe to toe with ML. Chloe is an interesting FL, she’s wise, clever, assertive, dignified, she has strong principles and holds her head high despite her disability.

Here the power imbalance is not excessive and their game of cat & mouse is really entertaining. The tension is definitely present too, as well as their chemistry.

But then came season 3. I don't know what happened, maybe the artist was burn out or maybe she was over the story, or did they change some key staff ? In any case, season 3 was rushed, we could tell they wanted to wrap everything as quickly as possible because Chloe caved in way too easily, she and Damien were acting out of character, and the whole issue with the antagonist was anti-climatic.

I still consider Betrayal of Dignity as my favorite OI / OI-adjacent manhwa. It's one of the best story with toxic / red flag ML for sure.

Expected more from this. Really disappointing. While Damian was at least an intriguing and flawed character, equally a sadistic bully and a gentleman, but ultimately a total whacko (people forget this, but Damian is not right in the head AT ALL!, and I loved this about his char). I disliked strongly how the author displayed Chloe. Chloe was, IMHO, an overtly prideful, stubborn and sometime idiotic char who did some very stupid choices, but they show her as a Mary Sue, perfect, wonderful and great. Trust me, that she ain't. While she is generally a good person, some things she does are not that fine. Her stringing along of Gilles was the best example. Even if the guy wants it, if you are such a morally upright person, you know you have to remove yourself from him... For his own good. Put yourself second, Chloe dear. But Chloe isn't such a lilly white character as portrayed. But she had so much promise! She could have been a top tier char, her background story was very well laid out and she reminded me Austen's heroines so much. But alas, she fails completely.

The plot was too cliche, with jealous servants, former mistresses and angry crown princes. And too little world building, and Damian's strategic prowess was underplayed so much. And Gilles Watteau was an idiot par excellence, you can see he only exists in relation to Chloe and has to other meaning or purpose. Bad character writing.

Argh, enough! Art is good and there are okay moments, but overall, meh! We need everything better here!

I hate this. The characters are pieces of work and I do not condone anything that happens in this. But damn it, it’s well written, the conversations feel intelligent, the art is beautiful, and the characters are very dimensional- at least in my uneducated opinion. I just want everyone to be happy. But this one makes it so hard. And apparently I’m here for it.

The best drama fantasy. Every character is so well written, the pace and how the story slowly process is just so on point. I keep my subscription mainly for this story on manta. Wish there was a way to purchase it for ever.

this is 100% toxic abusive romance But it is also romance. the art is gorgeous and the characters' personalities are fascinating, hence why i'm here. honestly when you peel away the layers it's cute straightforward misunderstanding romance but uh. there are so many layers. anyway art MVP.

It's a description of a manipulative, destructing man liking to torment the woman he "likes" in his sick head. And the FL being unable to do anything, as the story is based in a nobility world where woman cannot do anything but smile.

Whew, booooy, toxic ML alert! Nuclear waste, radioactive, toxic ML alert!

Holy crap I can't get past ML's

cheating. Even if it's fake and he's never done the deed with the other woman NOR does he even care for that other woman. He fucking killed his "mistress" to frame the FL and drive her into a corner so she'll have no one to rely on but him.
