How to Hate Mate

Description

Everyone's twenties are sprinkled with regrets, but Subin's is spent stumbling from one mistake to the next. He gets drunk, comes out of the closet and clumsily confesses his feelings to his straight roommate all in one night.
It takes two years, but he starts to pull his life together. That is, until his old roommate, Hyunwoo, returns from the military.

It was a huge rollercoaster, but it was perfect. The story was very realistic, different from many BL. It showed the good and bad side of being in a relationship. The humor was awesome and the art is just unique, I loved everything❤️

I can't believe I read through another whole season just for the exact same outcome. I know most readers preferred Jun, but I didn't care a single whit about him (slight pity for his loneliness but as part of a couple? Zero emotional investment from me).

Great & dynamic art, like in season 1, but with a noticeable refinement. Very enjoyable to read, aesthetically. The emotional beats are well executed and often heartrending.

Besides my personal preference re: the romantic interest, it was a good read.

conflicting ending

I really enjoyed the story, dare I say it was perfect? And still the ending left me with conflicting feelings. But maybe that's just reality. Not to say that the ending wasn't good, maybe I would just have liked to see how all of them stand in 10 years. As the "interviews" at the end shows, love has many different faces and values, and a couple doesn't necessarily share the same concept of love. And that's what this story is about. Love is sometimes just enough, and when you still hold onto it, it becomes toxic. As with the two MCs. I seriously have never read a story where both of the MCs are toxic ***holes and still lovable, as they really served their purpose.

I was way more into the art than the story or the characters. Well, I did like that it was a more realistic story with realistic relationships, but my god, this art is amazing. The way the clothing & backgrounds are drawn, the way it's colors, often done with texture. I will kill for an art book from Reck.

I like that this story didn't follow a lot of the same tropes as other ones I've read. The characters were very human, not always likeable and realistically portrayed. It was an interesting take on a one-sided love story, bittersweet most of the time. Another reviewer said it felt unresolved at the end, but I quite liked that things worked out the way they did and that life continued for the characters in such a realistic format. The art was not my favorite style, but I got used to it quickly enough and it remained consistently well drawn from beginning to end.

Hmm.. I wanted to give it a better review, but I just felt like nothing was resolved at the ending. I feel like the only things saving it from being a 5 are probably the nice/unique art and how funny it was at times. Also, the side characters were bomb. The story however... I don't even know what the author was trying to achieve with this one.

I know that Jun is wonderful for Subin, and this was supposed to be the 'right' ending.. but every time the author brings Hyunwoo back into Subin's life I feel like theres something there that the both of them are just suppressing to get by.. I mean come on, Subin spent so much of his life deeply in love with Hyunwoo, and all because of Hyunwoo's inability to talk and a bunch of misunderstandings they fall apart? And just for some guy who Subin's been mooching off of for a couple months? I don't get it. Plus, why couldn't she end the webtoon without Hyunwoo coming back to try and ruin Jun and Subin? It didn't even look like Subin was going to stop Hyunwoo from kissing him! So now it feels like two people who were in love are unable to reconcile because they won't talk to each other like normal human beings, and Jun is on the side dealing with being in love with someone who doesn't love him the same.. I'm sure majority of people are happy with how things turned out because yes Hyunwoo was a real bitch, but I just can't see it that simply. Subin and Hyunwoo could've just talked things out seriously and gone their separate ways so that Jun doesn't have to be on edge all the time or they could have just dissolved all the misunderstandings and admit they are in love with each other. It's such a shame that she decided to end it this way.

just wanna say that "straight seme" is a misleading tag because the "seme" of the relationship isnt the straight guy its someone else? which btw im v pleased by. not a stereotypical i make my straight friend gay, but instead we work over this and survive it and i fall in love with someone who is the right sexuality
