Read solely for the mc

I physically am unable to read weak willed or annoying female leads. Especially when there is romance in it. It just doesn’t sit right with me. So when I found this after read ‘Curse of Spring’ and saw they were by the same author I gave it a try. Truly wasn’t disappointed, Yoshino ( the mc) is amazing by the first few chapters I was in love with her. When I say I love strong female characters I don’t necessarily mean they are able to kick someone’s a$$. More than that they aren’t meek. They know what they like what they stand for. Yoshino is a the definition of not taking any sh!t and the dynamic between her and Kirishima (the love interest) is comical but also interesting and I cant wait to see where it leads. Yoshino is not at the mercy of anyone. Growing up as a yakuza granddaughter especially around all men definitely influenced her personality. I love it. Pretty, strong and has an interesting personality Yoshino is truly one of my favorite mcs. Cant wait to see where the plot ends. Truly strong female leads tag needs to take notes.

A Super Interesting Yet Complex Romance

I literally LOVE this manga so much. Although the male lead gets on my nerves almost all the time, Yoshino’s queen attitude moments make up for it. I can’t help but love how crazy everyone is and I am always wondering how things will develop. I recommend it and would 100% read it again (even though I already have about a million times).

The art isn't my tastes but wow is this story addicting. After reading a little it leaves you wanting more. The characters are likable/entertaining and the development between them is very interesting. This is one manga I'm always wanting to see more chapters of! Can't wait to read more

I agree with enaikelt, I recommend this manga, if not for the story, then for everything you can learn about yakuza and japanese culture through the scanlator notes.

That aside, the story is actually really great! You want to know how these two main leads take care of sometimes violent situations, and they don't dissappoint.

I haven't read stories with yanderes in them, because the psycopathic gore usually keeps me away; so coming from that, I think the characters are really unique. You've got the p-psychotic male lead (wow... do people like him actually exist??), and than you've got the pretty normal female lead in that she's bad at studies and gets surprised at things normal girls get surprised at. But she's frank in the way she talks her mind and doesn't mind a lot of things and thinks about others instead of feeling sorry for herself all the time. Yeah, she's actually someone you might want to be friends with (I take my previous statement back, very atypical of a female lead)!

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
For example, she doesn't mind the male lead having a whole bunch of bed buddies outside the house, and she would give extra sweets to him to give to those girls --- aw, helping to maintain his social circles lol. Ok, ok, but be fair, she doesn't really think of him as a boyfriend anymore but they are still planned to be engaged in the public yakuza eye. In addition, she would help him solve cases when he needs, oh yah, she's got it in her when he needs it.

The author's really doing a great job. Having come after reading her other work, Haru no noroi, I was prepared for this to be another mellow, mediocre, and depressing... why did I... manga, but she's completely switched gears. This is one heck of a thriller. Would recommend.

Similar family backgrounds, cards up their sleeves, is there love or is it just business?

We got finally good MCs and an interesting story, it might seem like giggle-giggle but in reality the story is going to get deep. I actually do like both of the MC’s, characters r interesting.

It's a good plot, but the real draw

Rating: N/A the translator. This translator writes some of the best and most in-depth TL notes I've ever seen about yakuza culture and Japanese culture as a whole. Frankly, I would recommend reading it just for that, but since this is a review about a story...

it's good. It's not at all shoujo, and it's got kind of a sheen of realism to it that makes you feel like the author really did their homework. To be fair, I honestly don't know anything about the Japanese yakuza, so maybe they're just good at pulling the wool over my eyes, but it just feels like the author doesn't pull punches.

The FL isn't great in the first few chapters, but eventually, just like the ML, she reveals that she, too, has kind of been putting on an act for him, and then you start liking her much, much more.

For anyone who has read the mangaka's earlier work; "Haru ni noroi" had a sombre and restrained atmosphere. Its amazing how she shifted gears for this storyline. I LOVE and main characters of this manga- the female lead is strong without being annoying and best of all SHE DOES NOT ACT STUPID IN FRONT OF THE ML (other mangas with "strong female lead" tag- please please please take note of how to portray a strong female lead from this plot!). As for the ML- hmmm I still feel he is batshit crazy and she would be better off without him but maybe the mangaka has in store for us some surprise plot twists.
My ideal ending would be both of them remaining just friends while the FL marries a decent (and morally better) man

I loved haru no noroi, and I follow the artist on pixiv so I was waiting with high expectations for this manga. Raise wa Tanin ga Ii does not disappoint. The female lead gets the 'rich young lady', and 'emotionally strong' tags, but she's not simple. Even if she's never been involved in her family business directly, she's grown up in a male dominant family under yakuza traditions, and its been commented that she resembles her grandfather (yakuza boss). This isn't a story of a physically powerful female gang leader, but the story of a woman in modern yakuza society. Its not aiming to be a social commentary, but because there is actual intelligence behind the story it's a very readable romance (thank god).
The male lead gets the yandere tag a lot, and I can see why. But again its a more realistic take. He's completely addicting to read about, and Yoshino looks at him with eyes wide open, no rose coloured glasses here.
I believe the story is segueing into a more political one (yakuza family conflicts) but I'm reading it for the FL and ML. So far, there has been little to no love on the FL's part, so its a slow romance but that's my preference. The ML feelings just feel suspicious but that brings tension and intrigue. I hope the authors works get an official English translation because I would buy them. I've bought Aki Irie's works so I have hope!

I mean this one is my top 10 manga to read nowadays, like aaahhhhhhh Yoshino-sama is the best FeMC in any Yakuza theme I've seen. And its reality and brutality of Yakuza politics is so gooooodddddd, this is (for me at least) the best way to understand Yakuza and how they do their politics. I like how blunt the author towards us readers,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
like Somei grandpapa have a lot of mistress and lot of child, how Shouma used drug and in his early teen he already bedded a lot of woman,
like lol, if its another genre, there is now ay they made it like this lolol (thank god for Seinen, yeah?). It a must read for me.

And I wish there is someone normal that would take Yoshino away, instead of Kirishima, ey wistful much yeah.
