Witch Hunter

This is a fine series. The main character isn't almighty nor is he a justice-freak. You could even consider him a swindler. A swindler of the rich and his fellow Witch Hunters, that is. Money is his second priority, just after hunting down a certain witch. Unlike what has been mentioned before, the main character isn't an orphan because he still has a mother. And naturally he has a rival in the form of an earlier student of his teacher. It's "shounen" after all.

What's really intriguing isn't his background, because that's all pretty much explained. What keeps me reading is finding out the extent of his powers as well as the purposes of the witches following his actions, combined with the shocking revelation of what his supporter possibly is. The manhwa isn't too complicated, seeing as it IS a Shounen type and not a Seinen.

He isn't a super character by any means. To date, he's technically lost 4 out of 6 battles, and nearly died an even greater amount of times, usually saved by a certain witch or his faithful supporter. I think the author purposely gave him glaring faults as a compromise for his overall strength in comparison to his peers (A Desert Eagle >.>wink. Sometimes these faults are exaggerated and then forgotten later (Such as his greed).

Overall, this is a good manhwa. While I wouldn't say it's a must-read, I would recommend it, mostly to other people like me who can read the RAWs. Meep works a bit slow on this, with 11 chapters released in a few years, when there are over 7 volumes out.

Love this manhwa.
Its creativity of combining the Arthurian times along with the Wizard of Oz, witch hunters and witches had made this manhwa very interesting as well as the psychological aspects and personal life of each characters. Very unique, very entertaining~

Problems with this series:

- The history drags on;
- The chapters were downsized from 60 pages to 13 (?!); *
- One of the "extra" characters got "author's pet" status for more than 40 (!!!) chapters;
- The objectives / focus of all the characters seem to go back and forth all the time;
- Style over content (there is good content, but it is "trope heavy" and volatile);
- Everyone is "snarky" (well, thats a trope on Korean fiction, so... yeah);
- You will get tired of the same contrived smiles over and over again, even if they are well drawn.

EDIT:
* One kind soul explained to me that the chapter size changed because the translation group went from volume scans to magazine scans; seems that some chapter cliff-hangers don't actually exist on the "final product", too.

Even with a load of bad points, some concepts are pretty darn interesting (even if borrowed from other places) and well worth a look, for they end up being well developed. The main character is extremely likeable too, even if the same can't be said about his sideckick and even if he ends up getting less screen time than some uninteresting or even forcefully mysterious characters from the support cast.

tl;dr - This series is flawed, but extremely entertaining.

Alright so this was being printed in english as Witch Hunter and I bought each as they were published but then it suddenly stopped. Apparently they will begin a completely new printing under the name Witch Buster just curious if anyone knows the reason for the change. This series is absolutely amazing with all the right intense and hilarious moments to always keep you coming back. This reprinting is totally setting back my collection.

Good for any shounen fan

Characters: 8/10 They're likable and original enough to not feel cliched. Tasha is smarter and more mature than your average shounen lead, and Halloween is a bit of a tsudere character yet still makes for a very likeable female lead.

Art: 9/10 Clean, bold, stylized, and modern. Lots of textures and movement; you can tell that the artist really loves what he does.

Story: 6/10 Very shounen. Teenage boy travels places and fights people in search of something. I'm still hoping that there'll be a little more depth but... Well if you like that kind of thing (which I happen to *sigh*) than you'll love it.

All and all I'm really enjoying it, though it's got it's downfalls, it's really a fun read. If you like manga like D.Gray-man, Soul Eater, or Hitman Reborn than you'll probably like this. The good humor, interesting art, and appealing characters make up for the lack of a totally original storyline. Overall I recommend it.

This manwha deserves a proper review.

After reading these comments I believe most people here don't know the difference between plagiarism and parodies/allusions/homage.
A shame really. Despite the fact that the author is quite open about the influences of other works too. Please think about it. This manwha starts with a trio that does a Jet Stream Attack (Gundam reference). And there are so many other references as correctly pointed out by others. But do you really think the author would plagiarise some of the most famous fictional works so blatantly and think he would get away with it and that nobody would ever notice? NAY. He never had any intention whatsoever to do that.
If you call this plagiarism then you might as well say Simpsons plagiarises too. Please don't be so ignorant. And claims like that won't do justice to this exciting manwha.

As the title says this has some decent art with some rather voluptuous drawn women. That's about it.

The plot well it's just so so. I mean it's understandable that the baddies are powerful i.e the bad witches. Although they are so ridiculously overpowered that the only way I see the good guys winning is how they've been winning so far. They let them win. Sure you get a low rung bug baddie that will get beaten but it takes almost the entire cast to beat that one bug of a bad guy. Yeah, yeah it's shounen and we can expect some out of left field insane power-ups, but still as it is now it's not clicking.

Also have to agree with the reviewer below. The author is extremely slow when telling his story. We had to painfully sit through how many chapters of the Yue clan charade? I think the author is buddies with The Breaker's author because he has the same story telling drag problem.

Issue of Plagarism
by DrGullinbursti

Hi people,
so from what I can see a lot of people are bandying around the term plagarism recently in connection with this manwha. Now I bothered to look at the examples of the "plagarism" and noticed a few things that apparently a lot of you guys haven't. Okay firstly, and to me most tellingly, the "same composition" pages are faked. Someones grabbed individual panels from various pages in the manwha are realigned them so that they look like page for page copies of stuff that was done in other works. Just have a look yourself, you can see that the bottom of pages are at the top of the example pages (look at where the page number is, also just look at the different scan quality of the panels). Secondly, if the artist/author had been found to be plagerising he'd have been dropped ages ago, the original post with the "proof" is from 2008.
Lastly, there will be some definate similarities between FMA, D-Grayman, various otehr examples and Witch Hunter. They all have a psuedo european kinda medieval magical world with angsty protagonists doing similar things. Beating up monsters and doing good etc.
Oh, and honestly for the final time, some of the drawing claimed to be copies are of things that are so generic that you would find examples of them in pretty much any artistic work featuring a medieval period. Ask e to draw a castle and my castle is going to look pretty much the same as anyone drawing a "Castle"on the planet.
