From ShoujoMagic:

Altojin, a strong-willed warrior with a mysterious tattoo, was raised on the grassland plains of the country of Chigul in the time of Ghengis Khan. One day, while out hunting with the Imperial Prince Olsbolt, she saves his life from a would-be assassin.

Olsbolt, suspecting that the assassin was sent by Biruge Han, his father and the reigning sovereign of Chigul, kills his father and thereby takes back his former lover who had become his father's wife.

That night, Olsbolt goes to Altojin's home to hide, but while they were away for a moment, her entire family is slaughtered! What will become of the young warrior Altojin and the bold prince Olsbolt? And what mystery lies in Altojin's tattoo? Is it somehow connected to her family's assassination?

Plus points to mangaupdates for the category recommendations which led me to this beautifully written and drawn manga! Tenma just completely pulls you into the story wanting to know more.

I love Altojin! She is a feisty and spunky girl that will not be easily put down by others (kind of reminds me of Yuuri or Red River) but stronger and less prone to crying. Of course, there's the irresistible Prince Osbolt who's a playboy, kind-hearted yet vicious when needed. Unlike usual romance manga, the chemistry of the MCs weren't pushed right away.

The plot just seems to be getting better and better after every page. There are so many things happening at once that when these twists and turns meet you'd just find it exhilarating. Kudos to the author for creating amazing characters that are so varied, pure and innocent characters, to neutral ones, pitiful ones (reminded me of Basara and downright disgusting-shouldn't-be-allowed-to-be-born ones, that you'd never get tired of it. biggrin

Such an amazing series. It's like the manga version of Chang Ge Xing (which is also awesome btw, go read it!!). I LOOOOOVEEE the heroine, and Prince Osbolt is super cool!! biggrin The plot is also so intriguing, with fantasy and supernatural elements mixed in beautifully. I hope it gets updated soon ~ :3

I'm not very sure why there is so much praise of this series. It's alright. Compared to Basara and Red River, however, the characters are ill-developed and the sequence of events and paneling tends to be rather jerky and occasionally it stretches one's powers of suspending disbelief. There are also quite a lot of cliche plot devices; twins, mysterious tattoos, ill-explained powers, etc, etc. I can't say it's bad; it's above average. But neither is it the next great thing to sweep the lands.

If you enjoy the the historical setting, I would recommend Otoyome-gatari to blow it out of the water.

Do you want a strong female protagonist that actually stays strong? Do you want characters with complex and fascinating back-stories? Do you want detailed historical settings of incredible grace, realism and grandeur? Do you want intricate political plots and intelligent story-telling? Do you want cool and cleverly-used superpowers? Do you want character growth and intricate romantic sub-plots supporting the greater arc of an epic, swashbuckling adventure? Do you want a story so AWESOME that once you start reading it, it takes over your heart and GRIPS YOUR BRAIN and refuses to let go?

Well, you've found it here! Read 'Tenma no Ketsuzoku' or miss out on a true masterpiece! Heck, it don't even feel like shoujo - this is just a brilliant historical adventure with characters and plots so rich that you want to drown in them and never come back.

Thank you SO MUCH to the scanlation groups who have worked on this amazing manga in the past, and to A Willful Muse for continuing the scanlations today! This is an immense classic of mind-boggling proportions, the absence of which I simply cannot imagine from my manga-reading life - it's become a 'staple' manga that I will likely be reading and re-reading for many years to come. It's that awesome.

A series with a good rounded female lead and interesting characters and setting - finally!

What about the art? o.O* It's better than the art of many other manga I know.

Too bad no one wants to scanlate it anymore and it's not even licensed in English T_T

As soon as I can read some Japanese I might give it a try for you all wink

The plot and storyline is totally amazing! Eventhough the romance wasnt really the main point of the whole story but you can obviously tell that the princes really treasure her!
I loved it and cant wait for what is going to revail! I love the characters's personality, and the author's imagination for the setting!
Very interesting and a must read! Unfortunately it got dropped! Hopefully someone will picked up this project!
