I guess there is something to be said about reading a mangaka's work anachronistically. I came with my usual expectation of being blown out of my mind, and was let down. Honestly, what I remember the most from this work is all the non-BL stuff. However, sensei's trademark artistic style, which just gets better and better, and her penchant for relating all of her stories either thematically or by having the character's in different works inhabit the same universe and meet each other was not something of a spur of a moment thing, but had deep, deep roots starting from here.
And this is what I love Yamada-sensei's work the most for; not for the neat drawing, not for the excellent characterizations, not for the smooth flow of the story and masterful paneling, and not for the intriguing dialogues, but for being in love with her characters so much that they keep on coming in different works, as different persons, with different sides to them. (but of course without all of the other things seeing the same character again and again is just boring)
