I first discovered this manga on a trip to France where Georgie was published. Looking at the pretty covers, I bought the whole set on a whim. And what a great choice that was! Georgie is an awesome manga and I absolutely adore everything about it. Igarashi herself says that around the time when she drew Georgie, her art was at its nest, and it certainly was. The details are lavish and gorgeous and I can hardly stop looking at it.
The story is a classic 80s shoujo - it's melodramatic, passionate and quite intricate. I rejoice whenever I find a manga like this. I can also recommend the anime, which has incredible character growth.

It's was an amazing manga that I truly recomend everybody reads at least once. Though the ending was good, I still think an extra chapter to focus on the after she gets back to Australia would have been nice. But I really do recomend this sad but beautiful tale of overcoming obsticals and finding a happy ending.

At first there's nothing disagreeable about Georgie the manga, but about a quarter of the way through things get really real. Tragedy and tense situation come in rapid succession, a lot like a book's.
Her initial love interest could easily have been the type that sucks, the type that comes off like a creator's pet or fantasy. Instead he's interesting, trapped in a social structure he doesn't like, while also being trapped in a failing body. I like where the story goes in regards to him.
I don't like parts of the ending though. I'm not complaining really, but it might be a bit too much. It might even fall into melodrama. My feelings on a part of the ending are a bit ambivalent, but I was willing to move past it. But it reminds me of a complaint about the movie Pearl harbor, even though all the guys are different in Georgie, the writer basically puts her through them all as if they were all interchangeable. Though the very end is left open ended, a certain character is basically responsible for another dying, it leaves that character with bad "karma" hanging around.
A minor problem with the series is rather odd because it only affects young girls, they all have a bad case of looking alike.

This is an old manga but its really one of the best shoujo.
Georgie is so cute and full of life, you will love her from the start if you like optimistic and joyful female protagonists. She is very natural and honest too. Her 'brothers', Abel and Arthur tigether with Lowell represent different kinds of male characters and every of them is amazing, and would actually go well with Georgie...
Im so glad I found this series. I hope so much it will be continued.

After waiting so long, a group has finally decided to pick up where Lady Georgie's former scanlator (MangaSync) left off. Many thanks to ShoujoCrusaders! I absolutely adore this manga, maybe because it reminds me of Pansy, but nonetheless, this manga has its own sense of style, and story.
