Overly cliched story, nice art, CHARACTERS THAT ARE INCREDIBLY HARD TO SYMPATHIZE WITH.
Headstrong heroines seem to be popular and easily liked by readers of this genre but this work tends to lead one to the misconception that since Himeko acts as an extremely strong-willed and dauntless "queen", it means that she automatically qualifies as an ideal heroine under this category. Seriously, she does not. Her actions appear to be always triggered by her ego which I found rather intolerable and not in the least bit admirable for a shoujo lead. While she may be outspoken and all, her words always center around how perfect she is and that every single male specie who happens to lay his eyes on her should prostrate himself before her because apparently, SHE IS QUEEN SAKURA HIMEKO, a phrase she keeps spouting throughout the entire series that it eventually got tiresome for me as I read along. Very narcissistic and arrogant. Even after meeting her love interest, there's not a slight change in this save the fact that she becomes your typical tsundere girl. One short scene which had the potential to show an admirable, selfless side of her for once is when she tries to save one of her followers from bullies but in the end it is revealed that her rescue attempt was carried out because it’s one of her fans she’s saving after all, not for a much nobler cause or anything. There is a difference between heroines that are strong and stand up for what they know is right and heroines that are strong yet purely egoistic. Well if you like (exaggerated) queens in your shoujo, chances are, you might like her. She simply got on my nerves so bad for obvious reasons stated above.
There are a few things for me to complain about the male lead as well. Like him being a little too cliched – smart, cool, and strong megane bishounen blah perfect in every way blah. Or him being pointed out as a sadist at one part (some may consider that appealing so it’s subjective). He just didn’t leave a big impact on me.
This is one title that had me cringing at both the leads. More so with them as a couple. I honestly could not find it in myself to root for their love but at the same time I was somewhat glad that they were able to have someone who could blindly stand each other's personalities. If I were the guy, I would definitely not want to have anything to do with the girl considering her conceited attitude.
