Sometimes enjoyable, but mishandled
by Shostakovich

Rating: 5.0  / 10.0
Volume 1 - From the first chapters I thought this was going to be a lame Harry-Potter-goes-harem manga. The second half of the volume is a bit more enjoyable, but it doesn't go past a 5/10. Little to no action so far, but it seems there will be a plot after all.

Volume 2 - For me this marks an improvement, there are some lame scenes but there's action, the antagonist is rather cool and the plot is enjoyably corny so far, delivering drama and silly stuff alike. It's a pity the three girls are rather weak though. 6/10.

Volume 3 - V2's storyline gets a rather meh ending, and I didn't find the transition chapters fun nor interesting. However the next storyline is quite entertaining (though it doesn't make too much sense sometimes), so this is a hit and miss volume. 5/10.

Volume 4 - The first half is just ecchi humor, and it's quite fun, with a mock tournament that brings Suu Minazuki's humor to mind. Then it turns abruptly into battle stuff, and it does a good job mixing tension and humor. 6/10

Volume 5 - Well, that was disappointing. I guess that romance twist actually suits this manga's tone, but on the whole that was a cheap, pointless and badly paced ending. This manga's plot lacks focus and direction. 3/10

Absolute waste of time.

This manga is done in what feels like an after thought. Shallow renditions of the characters, bad pacing for the plot and a pretty lacklustre ending. Watch the anime or read the original LNs instead for both are far superior to this manga.

Anime is way better

MC is given much more of a typical underdog shounen role in the manga.
His abilities are not naturally as high as they are in the anime and he is outclassed in battles frequently which greatly diminish his "Demon King" title. His personality is a cliched hot blooded nature and he has to do a lot more training in the manga. Preferred the slightly psychotic nature he has in the anime when he gets serious.
Enjoyed the anime, but the manga is rubbish.

Entertaining

To be honest, initially it was a bit hard to read through, especially in the earlier chapters. Recently though, the story itself seems to be picking up and I'm genuinely entertained by the story. I haven't seen the anime nor read the light novels, so I can't make any comments about the "personality downgrades" people have mentioned. The main character seems pretty cool to me, if a bit hot blooded, but even in his hot bloodedness he's awesome.

Anime was better

Here the main character is an annoying overly hot blooded jerk whereas in the anime he is genuinely cool and heroic. In fact everyone's personality has suffered a downgrade while transitioning from the original light novel. Also as others have said, its pacing is all over the place and there is no redeeming quality about this manga.

OK i read this b4 and it seemed good but after rereading it this manga wasnt what i thought it was ok the concept is interesting but the structure and development of the plot is completely wack the manga hardly explains important facts and it just ramdomly introduces new characters after every chapter and they all have strong relationships without any real developing situations i normally dont rag on a manga unless its really bad and this manga aint so bad but i was just expecting more from it for some reason aside from that arts acceptable characters are likable plot needs work it a typical harem manga it has its funny moments so im gonna keep it at my original rating from when i 1st read it

I edited it for readability and copied it here for those who want to be spoiled for the first chapter or so.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
In the 30th century A.D., in a world in which magic exists naturally, 100 years have passed since a great war between the human race and the Devil King. The war concluded with the human race's victory, even though there were many sacrifices. Slowly but surely civilizations began to rise again.

One day, a witch walks into a small town holding a newborn baby. Stopping in front of a church, she puts the baby in front of its door and then disappears. The church takes the baby in.

Ten years later, the baby named Sai Akuto ("Worst Evil") has grown into a child of the orphanage. He puts people in awe and perplexity with his virtuous preaching about love for and the equality of humanity. Akuto decides to live in modesty so as not to trouble others, and before long a family offers to adopt him.

However, on the day Akuto is to leave the orphanage, a new girl is brought in. She can't stop crying from loneliness, worrying the adults. Seeing this, Akuto decides to take all the money the orphanage gave him for his future living expenses and buy a hair ornament with a jewel on it. He hands it over to the girl promises that they'll meet again someday if she stops crying and takes good care of the ornament.

Five years later, Akuto passes the test to enter Constantin Magic High School and leaves his foster father's home. On the bus on his way to the school, he makes a new friend. But after they arrive at the school and undergo the vocational aptitude test, Akuto receives surprising results: "Examination Numbers: Number 021, Name: Sai Akuto. Future Occupation: the Devil King."

Pretty Terrible Adaptation

I started reading this because I liked the novel, but I was disappointed greatly.

Purely from the manga perspective, if the art suits you, this is a decent comedy/harem read. Main lead is your idiot with a messed up super power, some fanservice, lots of decent comedy, and a somewhat believable and original plot line.

Coming from the novel, however, I felt the sequence of events were twisted in a way that inhibited character developments. Akuto in a way was weakened greatly in terms of personality. The Akuto in the manga is pure trash when compared to the calm, collected, and somewhat cruel personality he has in novel. The stark contrast of the "robot" (whose name I can't recall at the moment) 's emotionless and playful personality did not show through. The tsundere type character got tamed way too fast. The rice girl's silliness was ok however. Also, his sidekick is also a ton more pathetic and less funny than his counterpart in the novel.

This is getting an anime adaptation in 2010 spring, hopefully that would follow the novel more closely.

Fresh, very attractive drawings and likable main guy

I especially love the drawings (which seems familiar but i can't recall where from..), the story is quite interesting with magic schools and all that yet theres still modern technology, and i really really like such a concept.

Main guy is very likable, the hard-working, never-give-up, very kind, respectable type yet very unlucky which is a common favourite. The girls are very cute.

I knew from the beginning its ecchi (i have no complaints about that) but i didnt expect it to actually show full oppais/bewbs (with teets, LOL). But the ecchi content isnt too much or overwhelming but is at the right dosage.

Still too early to know where the series will go, but it has potential to be epic and creative.

NEED MOOOOAAAR!!!
