Description
This is the story of a girl who works as a performer at sake houses, but who has a unique ability. She has a tattoo of an eye on her hand which endows her with the ability of "second sight," and the ability to control dreams and illusions. Though this often comes in handy, it also complicates her life. She is constantly getting involved in situations with various supernatural creatures, such as animal spirits, kappas, and more.

the ravages of war

this novel may be outwardly about supernatural beings, however the central theme is about the war, specifically the World War 2 and how it devastate the Japanese country and its people. The manga of that era are always entertaining in their depression and hopelessness.

Of course, the star of the manga is the art. It use a lot of 'charcoal' style, thus the monsters are very raw and 'free'. It also use classical Japanese style to draw the monsters, and you would be drawn to just stare and marvel at the beautifully and horrifyingly depicted horrors. Nearly every other page have evil entities that could be admired if you hang the picture on the wall. Sensei also know how to draw entrails well, however this is not a guro manga.

Recommended for horror and monsters enthusiast.

I enjoyed it.....essentially an anthology style work, each chapter standing mostly by themselves, with what turns out to be a pair....... one, two or both.......of recurring characters facing whatever supernatural, horror or macabre themes for that particular chapter.

Yup, overall good, though in all fairness it got a little tedious over say the last quarter of it......as the category tags will tell you, post-World War II Japan became a backdrop at that point which lasted for the remainder of the work, and it got not just a little bit repetitive and overly-gloomy as well.

Intelligent heroine

This is kind of strange supernatural & horror type of series. It reminds me a little bit of “xxxHOLIC” in that it involves various stories about demons, ghosts, or anything supernatural. Each chapter is about an individual story about different adventures that a traveling storyteller has. Because of the tattooed eye on her hand, she can see the truth about people’s appearance, and as result she ends up getting out of a lot of sticky situations where she would have been in danger. The artwork is not that pretty, but the stories are kind of interesting. Most of the stories feel like part folklore, urban ghost stories, and etc. I do like that the heroine is extremely intelligent, independent, and knowledgably about the world.
