Description
Aoi Hana is a normal female high-school student, though she is extremely clumsy and thus tagged as good-for-nothing. But Hana wants to change herself and decides that finding a part time job would be taking the first step in that direction. Being an animal lover, Hana's job of dreams is encountering animals day-to-day and taking care of them - the zoo sounds like the perfect place for that. So when she happens to see a job offer from a local animal park it's settled she'll attend a job interview.

This manga is really generic, but even generic one can became interesting but not so much with this. Story only offer little mystery not enough to make reader curious, battle is over too fast most of the battle just filled with talking and suddenly changing character, changing back and bam finishing move. I know most of manga do it but this one have such poor execution that it really apparent that author trying to extend it and fail. What more some shounen can succeed by using humor to bad this also fail so bad, most of it all so dry, and seriously all joke is based on the director abusing MC.

I am disappoint. . . ;..( I have encountered similar situations in the past, but this one hurt me the most. The one-shot was too good, and the serialization was just too horrible. (in comparison)

you must not read allot of oneshots than, most of them are far better than the manga they spawn with few exceptions, like when the oneshot is a pilot chapter fo the manga, there are a few i read that were more or less self contained stories, but where continues with the manga, those ones usually suffer allot.
now to get to more of the point, the oneshot was better, but wouldnt have lasted in jump. it was more or less a battle manga with a gimmick, a decent one but yea. it also had a definite end. most manga love to have the most abstract end possible, for milking purposes. this one went completely abstract to lengthen the manga and probably make it more interesting. however they completely bley the character designs they set up in the oneshot in favor of a more retarded protagonists that seam to be popular now.

Had potential but...

This is the first manga I have seen where the prototype (the oneshot) is way better than the serialized manga.
The art style was way more original and detailed in the oneshot and the character of the director was much more likeable. Now he is only a violent freak and I find him quite the opposite to what he was.
It has just started and may be to soon to judge, but I have the feeling that the WSJ editors screwed this manga turning down his good points and making it more generic.

Of all the WSJ titles I have read (past and present), Oumagadoki Doubutsuen is by far the most surrealistic and strange manga i have ever read and actually enjoy.
Not only is the setting and the story is quite original, but it manage to go on a good pace without being so boring. The style of this manga is quite fitting for the title and the characters are not bad themselves.
Weekly Shonen Jump may have a bad start for 2010, but this title might actually be the few (if not the few) to be the hit that they're looking for.
