Description
From Tokyopop: High schooler Jenny You is living a dream. In the public eye, she is a delicate princess, a successful pop star, but in real life, she's a rebellious beauty ostracized by her female schoolmates. She and her classmate, Eumpa Won (One), seem to have nothing in common on the surface. Eumpa is a quiet boy, ignorant of the pop culture that has enchanted most of his peers. Having spent his childhood as a depressed prodigy in the United States, he has now resolved to lead a normal life as a regular boy. He likes a cute-but-average-looking girl, Young-ju Chae. Young-ju takes him to a pop concert, and Eumpa is exposed to Jenny's music for the first time. Meanwhile, Eumpa's resolution to live a normal life is challenged when his music teacher steals the young man's music and attempts to pass it off as his own... So begins the story of One...
This manhwa was...strange to say the least. In a way I loved it but in another way I kinda hated it. The art was gorgeous but the plot seemed lacking in some areas, like the romance for example. I thought every pairing in this manhwa had a shallow romance except for maybe

who actually had history together.

I felt like Jenny and Ha Rock were just thrown together for the hell of it since there wasn't much build up to them dating. They kiss once and then all of a sudden realize how much they love each other... >.>
I also didn't care much for Chae Youngju, one reason being that I'm shallow and thought she was ugly d:, but mostly because she was a weak-willed-wishy-washy character and when she

left for whatever reason she still expected to pick things back up with Eumpa but then contradicted herself by saying she wanted him and Jenny to be together (I did too T^T). So basically she wanted Eumpa to date Jenny but then when Youngju came back into the picture she wanted him to dump Jenny and get back with her. >w>.
Eumpa was my favorite character for his face :3 and because he was the only one aside from Jenny who I think went through real character development, he used to not want to do anything with his talent but then he decided he'd try to change the world with his music. The ending was atypical for most manga/manhwa but I think it fit with the whole vibe that this manhwa gave off, Eumpa freed himself and will get to play music his own way.
TL;DR - One is a decent manhwa that will give you a lot more information about the Korean and Japanese music industry then you'd ever want, with great art and an interesting main character.
Before I say anything else, let me just mention that this manwha wasn't perfect. It had its flaws, and at times had me wanting to quit. But, I kept reading and the series turned in a direction I wasn't expecting--and I'm glad it did. Although the last chapter wasn't satisfying for me, the general ending of the series was steered in a nice direction.
I love how the characters ended up developing...while there were some minor gaps here and there, the relationships that blossomed in the end were refreshingly different from the typical romance formulas. :-) And, I've come to love Jenny You too.
Also, this is a celebrity/music industry manwha through and through. It never went in a different direction! I'm glad I read this!!!
I think I read this story three times by now.... and I liked it everytime ^^ It's funny and special, plus the end is absolutely fitting and only predictable (to some extend) if you notice all the signs. I love the characters and the art, and some passages are always worth remembering xD ("I want to stop being a woman" "I want to stop being Jenny You!" and "You never told me he's a psycho")
What a stupid ending. Just plain stupid. If it wasn't for the ending it would have been a pretty good manga. But because the ending was so retarded we are left only with an good manga. Ah well. Still a decent read.
You see manga about the entertainment industry. Some of them are a classic like 'Glass Mask'. Some are more new such as 'Skip Beat'. Korean manhwas have stories about the entertainment industry, but none of them gets in deep and detailed as 'One'. It shows the details about the music indutry, even the bad and corrupt sides. It's a great combination of romance, music, and drama. The art is fairly decent. I find the art very different.
and here i thought it was all you typical idol falling a commoner story. but i was deadly wrong. it started a little bit confusing with all of the characters slowly getting into each other's lives but when the connection was established it finally turned a 180 on me! the girl who i thought was the main character turned out to be a supporting character and the main charac is a GUY!!! a super cute and talented musician! (a genius as they say)... it follows Eumpa's journey to stardom and the trials he had to face behind the scenes. the cunning girls that fell for him and the band mates that wants to drop him off because he can't dance.... it's a definite must read for those who are just so into celebrities or wanna be celebrities themselves, but even if your not, it still is worth your time!!!!
Although there is some reason that I don't quite like the story, I have to give it bonus points because it is so unpredictable. A great break from the generally predictable manga out there. It keeps you on your toes wondering what is going to happen next. Definitely good if you're looking for something different.
Generally not a Korean fan, since their names are much harder to wrap the tongue on. Nevertheless a work of great promise. I'm very interested in how this will turn out, since 11 volumes are already out in its native language, thanks to scanlation teams in advance!
