Keep in mind this is HELL
by imercenary

Although this is classified as ecchi, gore and torture, keep in mind that this story takes place in HELL. And this is not a modern day shounen, "we're not the same as the 'Old Hell' devils *drinks a milkshake*"-interpretation. This is an old fashioned, "You were sent to hell? Ok, you're undeniably guilty of a terrible crime and now you gotta pay the price Old Testament-style."

If you can accept that, you'll find some great characters and subtle usage of plot here.

This is so original, funny, and fresh. Sure it says ecchi, but I thought it had way more plot then that. It is worth reading, and it's very addictive! (even though not many chapters ((4 now?)) have been translated yet!)

A wacky, lovable, death and torture comedy

While it's very messed up and gory, this manga is also SURPRISINGLY heartfelt -- it might even make you cry. I'm bad with gore and torture, but this series mostly handles it in an oddly funny way that just works. Wrote a long review further explaining my thoughts. All in all, I think the series missteps near the end (possibly due to its cancellation) but the landing itself was phenomenal. The ACTUAL ending of this series is something to behold, and the ride is no joke either. Pretty good.

Genre:Romance In reality:4/10 romance
by DarkChaos2000

A man falls into hell to atone for his sins and fell in love with the devil in charge of him. Although it says romance in the genre, this manga would be better if they had expanded on the romance instead of just ending it so quickly. The story is actually quite interesting, very different from a normal manga. Some characters r developed, some are not that well, but overall, great manga with the exception of its romance part, which can be better done. Huge potential but the author decided to threw it away by ending it so soon. Rather disappointing in terms of whether it matches with the genres.

Disturbing and awesome!

A word of caution, this manga is not for the feeble minded and this is said by someone who does not like gore too much and despises torture. As a reference I totally hated Domina no Do, complete trash of a manga (in my opinion).

I've read Dante's Inferno many times already (for those who thought about it, I meant the book not the game, read more bigrazz) and it is my preferred part of Alighieri's work but... this manga has some disturbing parts and I found them all quite interestingly hilarious. Probably my mind broke when I saw a couple of screenshots of a hentai about corpses (you dont want to know, TRUST ME), compare to that this is nothing. This is quite a fresh manga, totally original while keeping the standards of a (disturbing) good story. It ends quite nicely, actually I would've wanted to read more xD. Give it a shot.

Bad first chapter got better and then axed
by Joese

It's readable. The first chapter is terrible, but after it's mainly light hearted comedy with a decreasing number of random nudity scenes. It would de better if the characters didn't act like a retards whenefer someone ugly appears or after half the nudity scenes, but they slowly act normal. Then in the last 4 chapters they build the conclusion.

The revelation of his sin was a bit suden with the comedic overtone, but it's clear how the story would've been milked (they left lots of stuff open like the mad devourer, why she had red eyes, what the happens to sinless sinners. that didn't want to go ...) so it's not that bad the series got axed.

There just isn't anything like Love in Hell

LiH is one of my favorite mangas, it's a fun, sexy, gory, romcom about self growth. It's a romance story on face value, but also something more. I can't recall the last manga that was so unique, that I feel flawlessly married these genres to make something this interesting. It's a perfect pairing of nightmarish horror, and cute Waifu slice of life that I haven't really ever seen done correctly... Until LiH.
The world building done in such a short series is amazing, the love story is weird and fairly off-putting until you realize that our MC, well he's in hell for a lot of reasons. It's a story about growth and self reflection. Is it an original story? No, no it is not. But it's a story that works perfectly because of world building.
Let's talk about the world building. It's more purgetory than hell really. It's a plane of redemption, by making sure it's comfortable enough to not break the soul, but uncomfortable enough not to want to stay. There are easily explained rules that the author wisely didn't spend pages pouring over. Demon's are almost indifferent and because humans reform the next day, they kill and maim with almost a sense of boredom. The demon's are secondary to the bigger threat, other humans. The humans are people that earned their way into hell, and are selfish, manipulative, and spiteful. The most demonic thing in hell is man.
So this is a story of a selfish unlikeable MC, with a young, ernest, and sexy demon as she tries to get him to understand that punishment isn't just being hurt, it's understanding why you are being punished as well. The name of the book isn't just a remark on their relationship, but also a statement about our MC, learning to forgive himself, and finally be able to love himself.
Is it perfect? Nope, its clear that it was rushed near the end. But that didn't stop a satisfactory conclusion. It is officially in english, and I recommend it (I paid for my manga, shocking I know) over scanlations. I know it's not my favorite manga, but I would be hard pressed to say what beats it in the genre.

Fun short read

Unexpectedly good and at times funny, the way hell is portrayed makes no sense imo but it's acceptable enough.
The story is simple, not overly original but not that overused either, chars are interesting and there is actual char development in such a short story. The setting as I said is kinda lacking still it allows the gore-comedy which I didn't dislike but didn't find that funny either and there are some warm moments in there too.
An interesting read, recommended for any love-come fan.

Could have been better.

Despite the not all that uncommon topic, this was an at times surprisingly original story.

I was a bit annoyed at what was considered a sin sufficient to go to hell, though:

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Rintarou thinks his sin is running from a girl after he'd found out her father was abusing her. He claims he could have treated the girl better, but doesn't think he could have helped her. What the hell? This is yet another story where people don't think of calling the police, or child support, or *anything*. Ridiculous. To keep with the theme of the story, that's a perfect example of the sin of inaction, both by the protagonist, and by the attitude that made the mangaka overlook this option in his writing.

Suicide is considered a sin? Seriously?

Finally, I found the ending a bit weak.
