Decent love story

I enjoyed the ups and downs. Really the only character I hated was...

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The teacher who strung along the main guy when they were younger. Had sex with him. Tossed him away and then couldn't seem to understand why he hated her.

typical shoujo - reminds me of Ao Haru Ride

I read both Ao Haru Ride and B.O.D.Y when they came out, but I only recently picked it back up. B.O.D.Y was as engaging of a shoujo story as any other of the time (2008) - misunderstandings that cause unnecessary strife for the characters and dated fashion lol. Surprisingly the mangaka was able to stretch all of the obstacles for 15 volumes, because while reading it seemed like a lot, but each event was wayy long.

The reason being, to be honest, the main characters seem mentally weak. Sure, Ryouko is strong-willed, but she has more moments that she shys away from telling Ryuu the truth than of her strong-willedness. And Ryuu at the end was such a whiner. The side characters seemed stronger and more interesting than Ryouko and Ryuu sometimes! Those two are just a couple of awkward people not communicating well.

Storytelling-wise, it was poor. The tone at the beginning was good, but the second half was almost completely dark. The story should've been more consistent, with variations is good and bad times. Even when they were "having fun" in the second half, it was still gloomy.

Despite my critisms, with characters like those, the progression and emotions expressed seemed real, and the story did follow a mood that would occure after a breakup anyway.

All-in-all, not too bad, but don't read if you're not up for a lot of unnecessary drama.

I want to vent my regret here

Yess! I've just read this manga and i want to vent my regret here!

I don't really like the art.
The outlines, the lips, and the shape of their face. I just cannot say wether someone is handsome/pretty or not.

I don't really like the character.
Sakura (fc) is... umm, she looks like strong and tough and yes-i-can-do-it type of woman... while the fact, she is just plain stupid, weakling, crybaby, and a pathetic girl.
She goes -dash! dash! dash!- without thinking (or no. maybe she thinks that she is a superhero who is capable of saving a wandering soul with her super power) running, jumping, and butting her nose in someone else business... she even goes to some dangerous place as if she goes to the playground... it will be okay if she can at least protect herself... but she cannot!... in the end, she always drags other people to protect her, to save her, or to sacrifice themself for her sake while she cry and shout "kyaaa! noooo! it hurts!".
And when the case is -luckily- closed (yes! it's certainly due to LUCK that she can savely get out of 'there'), she will be the one who receives the credit, eventhough she doesn't really do anything except for her being reckless and stubborn.
In short, the fc is so-sooo-sooooooo annoying...!! Really...!! It seems we will be in a great danger if we get involved with her. Yes! Better avoid her...!!
Fuji (mc) is... well, i think it's okay for him, unless... i cannot understand why he likes Sakura so much. I mean, in vol 1 he (already) falls in love with Sakura eventhough he doesn't know her well (i can accept 'love at first sight' if Sakura is a beautiful lady, but she is not!) so why...confused

I dont' really like the story.
I'm sorry but i think the story is quite... yes, nothing special. It's cliche and the plot is not interesting. Some scenes even looked 'forced' and 'irrational' to me (okay, i know it's a manga but still, i need something i can 'swallow' nicely)

And that's all.
Overall, i don't like this manga.
I can't believe it has 15 volumes, because i won't bother reading pass volume 4.

A Roller Coaster Ride

And I do not mean that in a good way.

I don't know why, but I put off reading this manga for the longest time. Partly because it was kind of long, partly because I got a bad vibe from the synopsis. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was kind of cute and pretty funny.

The characters had such great chemistry, I loved how they fought in the beginning and when they finally got together they were just so sweet. Ryouko was a no-nonsense girl with a heart of gold and Fuji was an unmanly, comical ex-host. They were adorable together and I just couldn't stop smiling. I started this manga expecting to read a couple of chapters and then skip to the end, but I found myself easily falling in love and enjoying each chapter.

And then everything changed. The story reached this point where it just seemed to plummet into the debts of hell and even after painfully crawling it's way out it was left scarred and completely drained. The story introduces two characters that, while they should not have been such a big issue, caused such a catastrophic situation that I almost gave up on the story from the sheer ridiculousness of it all. And even after the "issue" *cough* breakup *cough* is resolved I'm left thinking "WTF it's over, just like that?" The mangaka then tries to return everything to how it was before, but the mood was completely gone.

The bickering-cute couple was gone. It's like the "situation" emotionally drained them. I was happy that everything worked out in the end, but everything afterward felt so strange after reading so many prior chapters of absolute pain and depression. In fact, it was such a shift in mood I wondered if some chapters were left out!

This story started off great. In fact, the first few chapters of this manga could easily rank in my top 10. Then it reached it's climax and dove into hell where it lingered for entirely too long. Then it slowly crawled out and dropped you off where you started and threw confetti in your face like it was saying, "congratulations, you made it," but you cannot find anything worth celebrating.

Truly a ride of mixed-emotions.

I just couldn't bring myself to read the whole thing. I stopped after the first volume. I usually like stoic characters but the guy doesn't convey any feeling in his silence. And the girl is too much of a typical shoujo heroine. It's like they were two people in my school that i didn't want to hear the story and so i stopped reading.
I give it a 5 because i don't it's that bad and maybe if someday i'm bored to death i'll give it another try.

Dumbest Heroine Ever!
by Molenir
February 7th, 2011, 6:53pm
Rating: 3.0  / 10.0
The guy works for a host club, the girl, falls in love with him. Convinces him to quit, but apparently, you can't simply quit working at one of these places. No you have to replace the money you would have made by continuing to work there. (An idea so idiotic its pitiful) That aside, the heroine decides that its all because the manager of the host club had his heart broken by an unfaithful girl, and so naturally she must go ahead and chase this woman down, and get her to pay for what she has done. The brainless stupidity shown by this moronic girl, who somehow thinks its her business to but into her boyfriends job, her boyfriends managers job etc. Honestly, if the girl got herself raped, it would actually be a relief, as maybe the brainless bit of fluff would finally get a clue.

This is just really dumb. It starts out nice, but goes rapidly downhill. Really not worth reading.

It makes me sad that I can't read the rest of this series. This story is one of the only original stories I have left to enjoy. Though it's called typical shoujo, I think that B.O.D.Y. sticks out with a unique flair that not all have. n_n

I've read until chapter 7 right now and I'm going on after writing this ^^ But I really needes to say, I loved chapter 6. The art looks really shabby, but I'm looking forward the next volumes because I've heard it's gooing better and better, nearly "beautiful".
The story is... nothing special, though I like it very much. I'm wondering what will happen the next chapters.
It's definetly a Shojo-thing, yes, but what's wrong with it? If you like it...
