I like the chess idea to this manga, and the sacred gears are immpossible to ignore, moreover, the rate at which the sotry is going is a decent pace and plenty of fanservice. I can wait to see how issei devolps as a character. And as a personal note, I dislike aashia merely because rias is a better character lol

Highschool DxD is more unusual than it may seem. Though it seems like a slow start it'll start to get good and it'll keep on going. For anyone that enjoys the manga i recommend them to read the novel as well. Though the novel isn't real far in the translation it can deepen the richness in the scenes the manga put out. Overall the manga may seem weak, but if you don't read the novel without its backing you'll never be able to appreciate what the manga is going to become.

Kick Fix: The World is divided into different factions. You hear a devil faction, a angel faction and a fallen angel faction. The protagonist is a human being that get killed by his girl friend and becomes a reincarnated devil. Humans are bestowed with weapons called "sacred gears." His scared gear is known to be a special type one in which has the power to kill god. The story follows him on his journey for breasts, naked female bodies and eventually his life-long goal to become HAREM KING!

Weak start, good story

Lets get one thing out of the way first : That sexy cover? Its not mere bait. Expect lots of up-front fan service throughout the whole story. If you want ecchi, go watch the anime, you won't be disappointed.

That said, the story starts off VERY slowly, with the first arc ending in a blatant deus ex machina that isn't addressed until later in the story. After that though, the story gradually builds up and go arounds breaking (or playing up) typical anime tropes (the childhood friend, the ice queen/princess, the ditz, etc). Rather than merely shedding his character flaws as the story progresses, the main character actually mentally wracks himself over the dilemma of having a harem-versus-truly loving a single girl.

If you can stick with it and the manga doesn't deviate from the light novel, this is not your typical action-comedy-harem story.

Harem Battle Manga?

Interesting premise. The art work is decent, and the comedic facial expressions are quite good. The triangle between the 3 factions are interesting. However, there has to be a better plot development. There needs to be a major arc, something bigger worth fighting for pretty soon. I can let it slide for now because it is just developing the story though.

Ecchi & Battle w/ love triangle (no harem)
by AMetroid

The Short:
Lecherous guy with hidden ability gets killed then resurrected as a devil. 3 sided war; Angel, Fallen-Angel, Devil. He's really weak, but hidden ability lets him save the day. Gets 2 girls crushing on him in latter chapters (love triangle). Average art. Average character mix. Interesting plot. Mostly ecchi & battle w/ some romance.

The Long:
The series follows the weak lecher, but otherwise average, guy. I wouldn't really classify it harem with only 2 girls having any interest in him, and the other 2 having no strong feelings towards him (though the anime adaption hints they may change that). It's more Ecchi & battle with some underlying romance.
The first major conflict is with some fallen angels, but the main character is really weak. However he defeats them with his hidden ability. It's almost deus ex machina in the first fight (end of novel V1), but the ability has enough draw backs to make it interesting going forward. I didn't find the antagonists to be all that interesting in the first 2 volumes of the novels, and I doubt it'll be different in the manga.
The ecchi point of the manga stands out with plenty of gratuitous panty shots (even worse in the Anime). I haven't found the nudity to be gratuitous yet, as it enhances the the realization that you're dealing with a devil who has a different set of values. And I thought it helped develop the characters and their relations a bit when it's happened so far. Though if it they start throwing it in there just for fanservice sake, it could become wearisome. There are some scenes with the characters winged but it's been mostly to show who's what (devil / fallen angel)
The character mix is standard paint-by-numbers; average guy protagonist, loli, ice queen, handsome guy, cute bumbling girl, idol princess. It gets the job done.
If you notice the "Dragon/s" tag in the Categories that shows up latter as part of the main character's hidden ability.

Rating: 4 of 5 (as of ch5 and 2 volumes of the novel read)
The story and characters are interesting enough. Though it could be better if the the antagonists weren't so weak (character, not power level), to give the protagonists something better to play off of.

INB4 the Ecchi Bashing

The artwork doesn't seem half-bad. I will give it a shot. I just hope the girls at least look entirely human, otherwise, it would be a huge turn-off for me to see them having tails, weird ears, horns, wings (this seems probable, but I tolerate it more), or the like.
