Too much narrating to make up for awkward panneling and sluggish art.

The first chapter felt the need to describe literally everything sometimes straight up contradicting the art. It's like watching a B-movie but without any of the memorable one-liners. Very little is being established in the amount of pages given. The story would work if it was a videogame and you had a chance to fight every single one of the opponents yourself or real life but this manga is just an uninspired take on fighting.
I've read about 3 volumes. Fighting can be made interesting, this isn't it.

this is one of those mangas that catch your attention after reading 1 of their chapters (i started in chap 44 and there down and up).
I like the easy way the story revolves, and it had picked my attention to the next one (the inside chapter) and how they will deal with ohmas situation.
Very good!

Doesn't Make the Most With What it Has

It's very exhilarating but the outcomes of a lot of the fights are very contrived. The fights sometimes don't feel natural, too occasionally you can successfully predict who will win. Props to the author for putting equal focus on as many characters as possible, even if they are regularly put on a bus. One major issue I have is that most of the characters don't get enough development, even when it is clearly possible for them. Some potential interactions between certain characters would be golden, but it never actually happens. I know that this is a fight manga, but there is a little too much fighting. I think a better balance could have been found between fighting and everything else. Fights don't last too long but it feels like there is too many of them and too much priority is placed on them.
Comparisons to Baki are definitely warranted, but I personally can't stand Baki because it is so much more stuck up its own ass compared to this one. The art is definitely better than Baki's derp faces and bizarre anatomy.

Man this series is good so far and im glad i found it and a great time catching up on it. Also i have be added benefit of not having read Baki yet so in this review i wont constantly compare it to that and give it more of its own chance which i dont think some of the other comments did.
Anyway starting with the art its pretty great so far. I love the detail and sketch style of everything and the uqiue character designs and even the weird body proportions at times. it really looks great.
The arction is also really good too as it has that style of super human type martial artist as well as the detailed descriptions of the human body and its structure and inner workings to explain whats happening. Although its not always accurate (cause these are put to the extreme) its still interesting to read. Plus i really like the unique-ness of each fighter. They all have their own style both in martial arts and character design. I would really love it if this ever got a fighting game (and it was done well). I could easily see this series done in the street fighter, Marvel vs Capcom or even tekken style (maybe).
Anyway in terms of the story its a pretty straight forward Underground fight tornemant style but to a larger and way more critical scale then normal (as they are a lot of super rich and world leaders controlling this). So yea the story is okay so far cause its straight forward. Most of the fighers and side characters are interesting too but some arent and kind of just a distraction (like this supporting old man character). That and the way some arcs take a long time to start is probably my only issues with this so far. Over all id give it 8/10 (but i put 10 cause i feel the overall rating is too low). With the lost of a lot of Martial arts series i used to read (like The Breaker, HSDK, Feng Shen Ji etc) its nice to find some others to start to fill that gap. i know this isnt new but i just found it so yea its new to me.

Clearly inspired on the classic Baki, Kengan Ashura does one thing well, it never takes itself too seriously.
The series flows constantly between ultraviolence and dark comedy, never letting a lightly developed plot in the way of the action. Its like a fighting game from the 90s where common sense is thrown out of the window while tournament of freaks of nature and psychos unfolds.
The art is vibrant and modern, with the craziest facial expressions and over the top moves you can find. Its not as detailed as Baki and it doesnt has the same finesse and attention to anatomy, once again you should find better comparisons in a 2D figthing game.
The combats (disregarding the initial ones) are ligthning fast never dragging for too long and really entertaining.
A diamond in the rough which gets better with every volume, and possibly a future classic.

Even the art is a toned down version of Baki. Well, to those who are used to Baki's ridiculous art and expression it's annoying. It's like almost sneezing then it disappeared.
Story wise it's a straight rip off. If you read any Baki series you'll know. I don't mind rip off if you do it properly. This is just half assed effort.
