One of the best shounen I've read, that's for sure (and I have read many^^). The storytelling lacks a little bit inbetween, trys to stretch some fights unnecessary - but especially the character development and the atmosphere is just great.

I will read it and edit my comment afterward. But if you like Samurai with action and romance, check out Blade Of The Immortal.

If you have a girlfriend you want to pass the joy of manga to or simply are new to it and looking for a masterpiece of efficient, quality shonen style manga then Rurouni Kenshin is for you. I simply do not know of any other title that asks very little of you and yet gives so much. Deathnote requires patience while Berserk requires certain mindstate/ maturity but Rurouni kenshin asks " are you ready for a good story". If the answer is great then this quick running, superheroic, educating (if you are evenly mildly interested in japanese history around the Bakumatsu and Meiji periods), romantic and swordplay stories then this is for you. Every character is developed and matures throughout the story--the love portion is as enjoyable as the fighting and the villains are imaginative and linked to so many american superheroes/ villains that it becomes a neat side fact to go through the series and connect the characters with their marvel dopplegangers. Great great series!!
The best!!!!!

what can u say it is just plain great
This is a definite classic.
The characters in this story really are the deepest ones I've read, and not just the leads. I mean like _every_ character with decent screen-time could easily have a brilliant stand-alone manga. And of course, because it is a samurai manga, expect some truly amazing scenes with beautiful artwork and angles.
Even with 28 volumes I still want more...

a true masterpiece... the characters are admirable (even the baddies!)... i like this series because you get to see the character development through the story, especially Kenshin... the way how the story ended was satisfying (the OAV... *snif* it's so sad...)
The plot is good, but not great. The characters really pull the story through. Kenshin has so much personality and is a completely developed character. Extremely rare.
If u have not read this, go get it NOW!
