Too Lacking in "Happy" Moments
by book_lover

This manga needs more happy moments. I read and read and read, waiting for something to finally go right. I mean, something had to go right, yeah? But no. Things just got worse and worse. That's fine up to a point, but the mangaka passed that point and kept right on going. There's no balance. A mangaka can make the characters fail once, twice, three times, but if they make them fail too many times before they succeed it's no good. I finally hit the point where I just couldn't read it anymore and that's saying something.

The main character and her brother are both complete morons, it is very aggravating, and it is very hard to consider the possibility that they don't have some form of mental retardation.

I enjoyed reading this series. Many people comment on Umino's naivety/stupidity, but I think it's normal considering she's so young and just entered into business. Furthermore; she had no one to guide her and also quit her school. I think the artist did a great job illustrating the expressions of the characters and making the readers fully involved in the plot as well. So far, this manga is anything but happy, but I enjoy watching the characters develop and react to their ongoing bad situations. And I love the rare happy moments; they make it all better. :<

disgusting

At first I thought the girl was naive and innocent, so that's why she was always duped, but it's gotten annoying. She is not innocent, she's plain stupid. And characters around her aren't even compensating for that fact, or make me look forward to anything in the future. 90% of the manga is contributed to ruining my mood, where's the fun in that?

This is Sad Manga

This manga entitled Happy, but its not Happy anymore. It's a sad manga. But I think pursuit of happiness at the end of this story.

But the problem is :

1. this manga never released in my country.
2. the scanlation only 10 volumes from 23 volumes.

Btw, from the first 10 volumes that I read on scanlation. This is Urasawa's story style. The protagonist never happy (Tenma from Monster never happy, Kenji from 20th Century Boys never happy). Its like a life potrayal such as people envy about our ownself, and trying to destroy. The main character is in the center of antagonist circle and she's trying to pursuit of happiness.

Ah, how about the story. As sport manga, this is great !

It feels so real, it's so good, yet it is such a pain to read cause there are many detesable characters in it.
Cause the translation stopped midway, i've never read the ending, but i dunno what is so "happy" about this manga.

My opinion

You know, in my time, Ive read a lot of books, and a lot of mangas too. So you can trust my opinion on this series.

This is, not only one of the best sports mangas ive ever read, but one of the more emotional ones, too. As the previous commentor said, You hate the character everyone loves, and you love the character everyone hates. In fact, Just reading this makes me actually want to hurt Choko, and help miyuki, Much like sakarada. Now, out of all the manga ive read, I can count on my hands the number of mangas that have made me feel like this.

Art: Very good. Ive seen other mangas from the early 90's, and this is superb. Its clean, and it makes you feel like youre actually there.

Characters: the development of the characters is great, while others are off. The only characters i dont like are, In fact, the main ones, Miyuki and her siblings. Miyuki, for not wising up, and Her siblings for being selfish little brats. While shes out trying to earn money to keep her apartment, they Bit** moan and complain that all she does is play, while they starve. and whenever she has a chance to earn more money, They think shes just going out to eat more food.

Story: Great story. Only qualm i have with it is Ieyasu the brother. He should show up more often.

Overall, it gets a 10. The cons are thrown off the scale by the sheer weight of the pros. Give it a read, youll like it. Its a shame that its stopped at volume 9(10 if you wanna be technical)

Miyuki seems so clueless of wats actually going on about her. The stupid chick (Choko) she thinks is her "best friend" is the one who's ruining her life! Her "benefactor", Madame Othori is only using her. even her stupid coach is using her! Everyone's leaching the idiot. I think the only one who's actually on her side is Sakurada and he's her debt collector! I hope she gives up on that useless guy, and gets together with Sakurada. He's done sooo much more to help her and seems to care about her more! Choko can have that useless, whimpy, rich guy!

Perfect Portrayal Of Human Nature
by ChaoticXYZ

Just like his other series, Urusawa-sensei is able to make manga that makes you feel like you are one of the characters. The most hated character is the antagonist, who is loved by everyone. The protagonist is likable, but made out to be the evil-badguy because of the antagonist. The idea is much like 20th Century Boys and Monster.

Umino is the protagonist who, although is very kind and likable, is hated by many characters in the series. Kenji (20th Century Boys) was also like that. It was a very interesting series to read, because it got me so worked up, yet I wanted to read more. Because I want Umino to succeed a lot. Go Umino!

The art is great, the story is great, the characters are all great, and the general impression is great. 10--no, 20 times better than Prince of Tennis. The only thing that pisses me off is that I'm still waiting for scanlations of volume 10 and up.

I know everyone says this manga pisses people off. It's true. However, I find this manga more hilarious than depressing. It's hilarious in a sense that the overwhelming forces our protagonist had to overcome are stupid idiots. Almost every antagonist especially the spectators/reporters are so stupid that it's funny. Like stupid South Park Characters.
