Really wished I found this sooner

I agree with comments that mentioned this series showing similar traits to other shounen mangas. But it's shounen and it's not beyond portraying MCs playing role as the "Chosen One" etc. What makes Kimetsu no Yaiba so enjoyable, for myself at least, is how humane the mangaka made the characters turn out to be. The lead characters are mostly young (to this i'm referring to Tanjirou, Inosuke and Zenitsu) who show characteristics you'd find don't stick to common tropes in shounen mangas with characters that could qualify as children (i.e. being arrogant, sulky 70% of the time, and bratty). For one, there's Inosuke. I love how the mangaka portrays Inosuke and his childishness (i.e. being competitive, wanting to overpower the MC and sometimes impulsive) but isn't arrogant enough to turn evil just to achieve his goal in becoming stronger. The fact that he was raised by a boar in the forest did not undermine that he is naive and smart in his own right. I just love him okay and the mangaka did a good job at characterising such a wholesome boy.

And Tanjirou. Reading about Tanjirou almost made me think that the story wouldn't stir into the "Chosen One" trope bcs Tanjirou really went through rigorous trials bcs the tragedy that happened to him didn't somehow planted a "Chosen One" seed or something and he's suddenly the Warrior the people has been waiting for. Like Harry Potter and his scar after Voldermort. Or Naruto and the Nine-Tails in his body. The tragedy that affected him left him with his sister's condition but he was still wholly human and it was his choice to become a demon hunter. It just makes it that more enjoyable to see him develop. Really heart-warming. Overall, all the characters are just so likeable. Even ones I thought I'd hate initially made me care so much in the end which shows how first impressions don't truly reflect a person. The mangaka utilised this so well and caught me off-guard when I least expect it. And the comedy!!! I love it sm istg. It's subtle but the characters' dialogue and expressions can be so funny I giggle too much. Just read it, you'll know what I mean.

And the art! Some may find it rough in the beginning. But for myself, I didn't find anything wrong with her style. Really love the character designs and everything else.

The strong point of this manga is the backstories

After finish reading three times chap 155 of Kimetsu no Yaiba, I can not stand the urge of writing short comment to this manga/anime to baka updates.

The strong point of this manga/anime is the backstories.

In my opinion, this manga is separated from many shounen series cause of its backstories. Almost all of background stories in this manga are really good at describing our characters. They provide us a strong connection between their strength, personality and history.
"Why do the human become demon, and who is truly devil, demon or human ?" are two questions I often see from the demon' stories through this manga.

I haven't watched this adaptation anime yet, but I hope you can forgive the genetic shounen factor of this anime and focus more from the character's backstories. They are warm and cruel at the same time, but these factor make this manga so emotional, so good.

Great series, though it's similar to some shounen series

The basic premise is a kid who lost his family except his sister who turns into a demon, and together they go out to take revenge. At the beginning it was kind of refreshing, since there was only one similar shounen manga to it: Ao no Exorcist. After that, well, there were a lot of common shounen-ish scenarios.

O yea one thing I noted though, there was kind of a significant change to the MC's personality from around chapter 30-50, the MC started to behave curiously similar to Asta from Black Clover. And the Lightning style guy unfortunately was not developed very well...

However, it really is quite good with art and story, and the concept is still pretty interesting. The plot was presented in a non-stop fast-paced style with nearly no fillers, although there were a lot of side character background stories which helped to add on to the story.

One obvious flaw was that the author tried too hard to explain techniques and skills, which made the shounen-ish series seems quite dull at times. At times, half a chapter would be used to explain the MC's new abilities, which is good and all, but kinda unnecessary. I mean, look at Ichigo from Bleach, Luffy from One Piece, their power-ups are so straightforward.

Overall a great series, but only if you can take tragedy and gore. It's a pretty bloody series.

well, i say that like it is a bad thing, but it isn't - it's violent and at times grotesque, yes, but i find that kind of goes with the premise of demon hunting. also, their powers are all so unique and interesting that i forgive them for the spiders. kind of.

speaking of, are you prepared to care for the demon hunters? and the demons? the background characters are all very easy to like as well (looking at you, little foxes...!)

this series really has it all: great art style and pacing, characters with super interesting powers and varied personalities, fleshed out and heartwarming (or, alternatively, heartbreaking) backstories, plot twists, kickass moments and tearjerker moments... family, mentorship and friendship bonds, character growth, and the best kind of protag you could ask for.

well worth the read!

heart warming

i especially like the heart warming situation, I mean, the characters are unique but still realistically domestic, so they're understandable in a way. and the relationship between the sibling, very heart warming, unlike most manga out there. and as a family oriented person, the small little absent minded gestures warm my heart..

Deserves higher score and popularity

This manga surprised me. I'm sick of the shonen genre, but this one is pretty nice. I love how the battles does not take too damn long (although the latest arc's battle did seem too damn long but hopefully its a unique case). But I especially love the characters, especially the 3 lead swordboys and the cute demon sister. Man are they nuts lol.
But at the core of it all, this series has a very, very good heart. Even the demons get their backstories - which does not justify their evil actions by any means, but goes to show how some evil are the victim/result of other evils. This humanizes them, gives them more depth than simply being bad-guy-that-must-be-killed.
I especially admire the MC's dedication towards his family especially to his last surviving sister (ITS SO TOUCHING T_T)
Oh and the MC is damn skilled with the sword. This is no Naruto.
He's also VERY sensible. I love it.

Better than most Shounen!

Beautiful manga: Nice story and setting with an excelent pacing. I really love the deep drama, i think this manga takes the Gamaran concept to a new lvl, the characters are relatable and the whole cast looks kind of "deranged" an air of Hellsing in their eyes and motivations! fluid battles with lots of blood and cool techniques!
its not a 10/10 because in the lastest chapters the story is becoming a little lighter for my taste, im not a spoiler kind of guy soo.. read it and you'll see!

MC is a good person

The basic premise of the story is set in a tragedy as the MC loses his entire family due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, through sheer optimism he continues living and is looking for a way to cure his sister. I confess, it's not a completely original beginning but a lot of the manga's charms is from the absurdist humor sections and how we never forget about each character's humanity vs hundreds of faceless monsters.

Although there's still the silly shonen tropes like power levels and arcane sword techniques the manga never devolves into a pure battle manga since they have segments that showcase how each character is growing from their exp and life. I have a lot of hope for this manga to continue for future chapters.

4/4/20 update: The final battle is disappointing and I lost interest in the series but I liked the S1 and movie. I feel like in the end the manga ending was rushed and a lot of ppl died so fast I found that I didn't care much at all. I will probably drop it soon.

Im enjoying this manga so far. It has that flavor like rurouni kenshin and a bit of Inuyasha because of the demon parts. Art is nice and character design i like a lot. I hope the story stays strong. Im sure some of the story could be flesh out better but i am enjoying it a lot. Enjoying all the differe character personalities.

I really like this series! I'm happy it's doing well, because it deserves that. It's a fine adventure manga with an amusing trio of protagonists. I like pretty much the entire cast. Wrote a long review detailing just about everything I like about it. This manga is a treat.
