Kagome is a modern Japanese high-school girl. Never the type to believe in myths and legends, her world view dramatically changes when, one day, she's pulled out of her own time and into another! There, in Japan's ancient past, Kagome discovers more than a few of those dusty old legends are true, and that her destiny is linked to one legendary creature in particular--the dog-like half-demon called Inuyasha! That same trick of fate also ties them both to the Shikon Jewel, or "Jewel of Four Souls." But demons beware...the smallest shard of the Shikon Jewel can give the user unimaginable power.

Won the 47th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shounen category.

ok Inuyasha is long granted and without reading the final chapter we all already knew the ending anyway. it's the story that's catching (and the fact that takahashi sensei seems to have the habit of finishing one substory mid-volume all the time so it's a neverending circle of reading inuyasha!!!!).

another note to make is the one of the group scanlating Inuyasha (Ear Tweak) lol the translation... calling Miroku's charmed papers "sticky notepads of death" and many other silly things (I get what they are trying to say but it's funny and refreshing) I'm not sure if takahashi sensei really used those terms in her manga lol.

I love InuYasha I really do but I don't think it deserves higher then an 8.
Why? Simple, like most manga it had a wonderful beginning a good plot and good characters which brought it to a full 10 but this story got prolong for too long just to kill one single character.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
So the story starts out go Kagome and InuYasha in hunt for the jewel shards nothing bad then Kikyo comes in and then begains the constant betrayal of Inuyasha [really did piss me off]. Because of one of his betrayals to look for Kikiyo, Kagome almost gets permanently destroy by mentally and souly means by Kagura and that creepy baby. When she finally die because of Naraku's poison I was so happy I don't hate Kikiyo but I don't like her that much.
Shippo, Miroku and Sango make a good addition to this group contributing to the destruction of Naraku. As well as Sesshomaru but I think they work to hard on him to make him look... I am not sure what they were trying to do but they work too much on his character when he was just fine as he was. I love his reaction when Rin dies because of his obsession on becoming stronger and learning the truth of his sword.[sorry off topic]
I don't mind that they took so long to kill Naraku no it was the fact most of the most of their adventures got repeated to a point where I already knew whats going to happen. How they constantly tried to make tessaiga [spelling] stronger and stronger to match up with Naraku and an amazing that Naraku couldn't deal with them. He had most of the shards hell he had about 99 percent of the shards.

What really ruin it was the ending come on yes Kagome and InuYasha finally got together after 557 chapters [Miroku and Sango too men 3kids they work fast O.o] but no freaking kiss. No Kikiyo and InuYasha kiss but what about freaking Kagome she stood by him and she got no freaking kiss. The hell so thats about it.

I give InuYasha an 8 it would have been a 7.5 but lets just give it a 8

this is the longest manga ive red and is on my top 5 i personaly like it cause it is a good action but has a nice romance side to it as much as i loved it i have to say its about time it ended cause of how long it was (but then agen thay did have to find 1000+ shards of a jewel each one granting a lot of power to the holder) and the ending was good

pros: a nice mix of action romance and comedy, good plot, good caricters and background for them, good art, good ending

cons: long, a bit repeditive

(please exuse spelling)

i see that almost every one didn't like the fact that it was so long butt i really liked this manga i thought it was really good the fights were pretty fun to read, i loved the development of inuyasha as the time with kagome grows he starts saying "Heck" not "Hell" and even "Darn" instead of "Damn"
i like the romance the whole inyasha kikyo thing really pissed me off,
miroku was a amazingly funny character and sango was a perfect match for him,
the development between inuyasha and kagome was really well done!
though at some parts the story sorta dragged butt all the characters were well thought out and the pairings like
Rin and Sesshomaru i think that was a amazing pair up,
Kagura and Sesshomaru, i think the moments they had were really nice and soft.
Kikyo was a amazing and sad character her story was really sad i hated her at first butt looking back i feel that her character was really well thought out .
i think the plot line was a little weak butt it was very nice and fun to read i will always
support this manga
and on a side not i really liked the anime for this it followed the manga nearly perfectly not many anime follow the manga that well

This is another manga of the started so good kind... But it's extremely long. I was shocked when i knew it had finished. At the beginning i rly like it. The characters are typical shoujo characters so i dont like them. But the developement of the relationship between kagome and inuyasha was pretty good. Inu sucks though... Then the story just continue and continue and i see nothing but never ending battles ( which has ended somehow ) and some boring romance. I liked shessomaru at 1st but the mangaka tried too hard to make him cool and destroyed him completely

the story is very entertaining........and first itme in my life to read a manga with five hundred ish chapters .......
i just wish there's more development in the love stories........the author only drags the relationship and rarely has any development which is really very unsatifying ......come have like 500 chapter to develop that...........and wrap up their love story with not much explanation
the drawing of characters is also quite funny........i mean come on.....they never kagome always in a fifteen yr old girl and rin as five.........sigh
but still i finish it in 3 days with lack o sleep
it's a 9!

Just to get it over with, I agree that this manga is definitely EXTREMELY long. That being said however, I don't think it was as bad as some people made it out to be in their comments. I think that if a series becomes the inspiration of tens of thousands of fanfiction stories in different languages, then it's something to be reckoned with.

I could have cared less about InuYasha's storyline, nor the innumerable special moves that were mentioned throughout the story. I also didn't really care for the numerous enemies (in this Rumiko Takahashi doesn't deviate from Ranma) and the (sometimes) astoundingly inept plot twists and turns.

So what exactly drew me to InuYasha? Although I hate Inuyasha's and Kikyou's guts, I liked the characters and their development in the series (yes, even the aforementioned ones, however contradicting that is). And I was at least appeased when despite the "cliched"-ness of it all, Rumiko Takahashi gave us an ending which was neither open-ended nor unsatisfying. All in all Inuyasha was ok. In my book it will never be a "masterpiece", but at least it entertained me for quite a long time.

Inuyasha is what introduced me to the world of anime and manga. It was so beauiful and new back then. The beggining chapters were done well. Good story, well, mediocore at best but it had a great feel and sense of effort in it. I managed too read a couple of chapters at the end and i can tell you one hundred percent that its a piece of crap. The ending was horrible. everything about it felt like crap on top of crap. No effort to tell an actual story was even being made. Horrible... Just horrible.
