The series, set in Saitama, follows the story of Ren Mihashi. The series, set in Saitama, follows the story of Ren Mihashi. Mihashi was the previous ace pitcher in his middle school's baseball team, but it seems that he only got the position because his grandfather was the owner of the school. His teammates (especially the team's catcher, Hatake) hated him, and they always lost their games. Mihashi is thoroughly convinced that he is a lousy baseball pitcher, and feels guilty because he believes that he is responsible for all the losses. Mihashi graduates through middle school with extremely low self-esteem. But in truth Mihashi is really a hardworking and skillful pitcher, and the main reason why his team always lost all the games is because of bad cooperation, because his teammates never talked about the game with him, and they did not try to come up with a plan or strategy to fight against their rivals. Mihashi then transfers to Nishiura High School with plans of quitting baseball because he thinks he is not good enough to succeed at it, though he still loves the game deeply. However, he is dragged into Nishiura's baseball team by their coach, Momoe, while watching the team training outside the field. Assisted by his new teammates (and especially the catcher, Takaya Abe), he grows in stature, confidence and skill, helping his team excel with his own abilities.

Well, its like no other sports manga so i've read so far..It's simply amazing that a manga solely, as in purely dedicated to baseball(the scenes you'll only see are the baseball field, training sessions and just some occasional house scenes) can be so addictive that i cant get enough of it..i have a long list of manga titles in my reading list but i can confidently say that this is my most eagerly awaited title for all the releases..
baseball is a sport close to my heart coz its the first competitive sport i played though briefly(grade school, little league) and this manga just brings back memories and more..i just love it, the characterization, the technical baseball details, the plot, on how it keeps me on the edge of my seat, wow! and the main characters are just lovable the way they are..ren-ren is just great!
though i cant really appreciate the yaoi/shounen ai dj's thathave been coming out...stop ruining this great manga..

Great manga that catures you and won't let you go again. Try reading a few chapters (one's probably already enough to start loving it).
Very realistic and heartwarming Characters.

I love the camaraderie and friendship in the group. This is the first time in a sport manga, I have read up till now, that I don't see high level of rivalry in the group itself. The group is new so they all learn and help each other along. Really fun to read.
Great Sports Manga

I like Major a lot, but this manga is getting the top of my preferences, even over Major. Very realistic when compared to others of the same type! Enjoy!

I really enjoy this manga... Unlike some sports manga where others are all evil or godly, its more realistic and explains baseball plus science!
Focus more on baseball mechanics

I really like this one. It pretty much the first baseball manga that the main characters/team are not geniuses, well except tajima.

I've never been much of a sports fan, but this manga gets me into baseball like nothing else. The purity, the passion, the comraderie -- the hand-holding! Ahem. Basically, the story revolves around the adventures of a stuttering pitcher with self-esteem issues, and the gifted catcher who takes him under his wing.
My favorite character has to be Tajima, for the way he randomly spazzes out and yells things like: "I FORGOT TO MASTURBATE YESTERDAY!" (Yes, he really does say that.) But everyone else is adorable in their own way... Mihashi's tender talent and fragile sense of identity inspires Abe's Mother Hen instinct, and Abe himself turns out to be surprisingly possessive of Mihashi's regard. Oodles of gentle homoeroticism fill every page, so fangirls of series like Prince of Tennis will be richly rewarded. Even if you aren't a fangirl -- or fond of homoeroticism -- the sheer charm of the characters will win your heart.
This is a truly lovely manga about what it means to be a team. The spirit of brotherhood permeates the story, and will eventually take over your soul!

I never thought a mangaka could be able to make a good and interesting manga about baseball. The characters are really well done, it has very technical explanations and grips you with intensity and emotion. Do not mind if you know nothing about the sport or if it's hard to understand at the beginning, the story is brilliant. I like a lot that passionate manager.
The number of pages of each chapter is irregular, three chapters per tankoubon the first two ones. The anime has recently gone out.
