From ADV:
America in the Roaring 20s. On the surface, it's a positive, peaceful time after the violence of the Great War. But lurking in the shadows is a dark element ready to snatch that peace away. Sister Rosette Christopher, an exorcist working as a part of the Magdala Order, has a duty to fight the demons which appear and cause destruction.
But along with her companion Chrno, she usually ends up causing more destruction than the demons themselves! On one particular mission, they meet a young girl with a beautiful voice named Azmaria, who is being targeted by her own stepfather. As Rosette and Chrno work to save her, more is revealed about the relationship between them. There is more to these two than meets the eye.

Yeah, I remember reading this many years ago and it still somehow remains in my memories. It was a great read, granted I hadn't been exposed as much back then to the world of manga, novels and anime as I have now. I mean, I even think I remember borrowing it in the library and reading it and back then I was restricted to just the most popular stuff because of it.

However... That ending brought it down from a 9 to a 7. I hate things that make me cry, I don't find it pleasant at all to be overcome with emotions of sadness, some people seem to love it, but I'm not one of them. It left a gaping hole in my heart for a while after reading it, perhaps that's why I still remember it so vividly.

Some people think it's good to end with the mc dying or something, to give that "ah, it's all over" feeling, perhaps it's good closure? But no, just no. I want to imagine they still have their whole life ahead of them, going on with their merry adventures and not being in a freaking grave. There's nothing I hate more than a definite ending with no future possibilities. I mean, who the hell wants to be told "Hey, the character/characters you came to love died from old age, mwahahaha, not to mention the two of them didn't meet again and she grew old by herself" when you're already sad about the story ending? At least give us a happy "lived together, grew old together and had a happy life", or make both immortal or both mortal, shit. Yeah, if you read this, you need to prepare yourself for a sad ending before you read it.

This is one of my favori-- no, IS my favorite manga. The absolutely gorgeous artwork, the way Moriyama manages to draw the reader into the character's (even the villains, dammit! ...Aion. <3) individual stories and sufferings, the bittersweet closure - it all makes me love Chrno Crusade.

Whilst the romance disappoints me in that there is SO LITTLE ZOMG, it balances out by being a well-crafted and non-cliched relationship. Ok, so usually love stories between demons/nuns are always cliche...but I insist that this love story will break your heart! Though I guess it all depends on how much of a tragic story you can come up with with only a few hints...
Anyway, I like Chrono and Rosette's relationship. It's not necessarily romantic, but a companionship that is spoken beyond mere words and gestures.

Of course, I could be biased. You'll have to read it in it's 8 volume (short..D: ) entirety to full understand! On the topic on short mangas, I find that it's the ones that are 6-9 volumes in length that really stand out. There are exceptions of course. biggrin

Another manga that just keeps getting better and better as you read on.
Fantastic plot, great artwork, extremely lovable characters, this manga has got it all. The pacing is just fine, never rushing things but never dragging the plot either.
If I had to come up with one thing to gripe about this manga, that would be that I really want to see more of these characters. At only 8 volumes the story is rather short, and it left me wanting to hear more about Rosette and Chrno (who might just have the most inpronunceable name ever). The side characters are also rather nice, so I wouldn't have minded some of those chapters (so common in other mangas) that don't move the plot forwards, but just let you enjoy the characters. But this isn't really something to criticize, is it? That a story gets you to love its protagonists and makes you desire to see more of them is a very commendable thing.
In short, if you like action, fantasy, romance, and have a penchant for bitter-sweet tales, this manga is for you.

One of the funniest, most touching, most beautiful, and over all best mangas I have ever read in my life.

It is literally a masterpiece. That is the simplest way of putting it. A masterpiece. You have to read this, trust me.

On a side note, this manga has inspired me to also ~never stop running.

At first, I thought that Chrno Crusade was going to be some crappy manga because of its setting and themes. Then I decided to read it. As I read more and more of it, I thought that the religious themes and setting both worked together very well. At a first glance, you may think it's some corny religous themed manga but I can assure you it isn't. The art is also great and the characters develop amazingly. All together making an amazing manga. biggrin

i love this manga so much its totally my favorite!! at first i read thinking " oh good shes a nun i wont have to deal with all that boring romance crap" but then i started to like chrono X rosette....THEY ARE JUST SOO CUTE whether chronos in chibi form or in older form!!

Spoiler (highlight to view)
when they got to the romance between magdalene and chrono i got kinda bored and thought about not finishing it but....after that it got good again!! the ending was a LITTLE predictable to me cuz they kept hinting that rosettes life gets shorter so i kinda knew she would die soon, so i was thinking the ending would be rosette died and chrono couldnt live without her so he would kill himself....well i was a lil close.....and i couldnt stop crying when chrono came back so rosette didnt have to die alone it was so happy yet sad at the same time wahhhh so touching!!!!!!!!!!! im gonna have to watch the anime now

seriously how can people like this manga? everything about it screams mediocrity. Run of the mill fantasy story, EXTREMELY boring and predictable... oh no, joshua's bitch is the other chicks sister? wow really m night shamalan? i guessed that, maybe the second that they mentioned that she had a sister? i dont even know if i can finish this heap of garbage.... oh yeah, dont forget the random cat demon, which arrived so abruptly and unexplained in this series that she might as well of parachuted onto the page.

also, wtf is with all the genre's? 8 of them? drama romance? 6volumes in and neither of them to poke their head out. supernatural fantasy? pick one, not both.

seriously, this plot is like
oh no, i need my horns! lets go get them, ok!
oh no, i need my brother! lets go get him, ok!
oh no, i need my sister! lets go get her, ok!

i wonder if the author came up with this plot from some random mad lib.

a _______(cliche creature: demon) meets a _______ (cliche female lead:tsundre chick) they have ____(number: two) companions....
dont even get me started on how just damn atrocious the characters are. "Hey, my name is Logic, you wont find me here"

i dont even want to go on. ugh this is just bad. its about as original as "two fast too furious"

not to mention every female character has the most retarded case of Stockholm's Syndrome whenever they get capture by their enemies, who are literally just waiting to kill them. seriously, make sense more please.
