Shiratori Ryuji wants to become a picture book writer, and he moves to an apartment, Narutaki-So, in order to go to an art school in Tokyo. The Narutaki-so is an old Japanese style one-story house which doesn’t fit in with the urban scenery. It's owned by the cousin of his mother, but the manager of the apartment is Aoba Kozue. She is his second cousin, and they met with each other when they were children although he doesn’t remember her much. She is in the second year of a high school attached to Aoba Junior Collage.

There are five people living in Narutaki-So. First, Chanohata Kotomi is living in the room #1. She is a best friend of Kozue. Then, the resident of the room #3 is Momono Megumi. She is a kind of person who goes her own way. In the room #5, Kurosaki Sayoko and her daughter Asami are living. Asami is in the first year of a junior high. Finally, in the room #6, Haibara Yukio is living with his puppet, “Johnny”.

They are all characteristic and eccentric people. However, in fact, the most eccentric person is Kozue. She has a secret; when she is shocked at something, she changes her personality. Not knowing this, Shiratori moves to Narutaki-So to realize his dream. What kind of a new life will be waiting for him?

The art is so-so and the story is a bit light but it's a decent read and it ended quite well. This is another case of where the manga is better than the anime. With a watered down rendition and a tacked on ending the anime was a disappointment.

After I read the first volume I almost didn't read any more because it seemed kinda boring, but then I read volume 2 and began to like it a lot. Maybe it just took me a while to warm up to the characters, who have memorable personalities and antics. This is a very character driven manga. The manga is generally light hearted and funny, but there are some serious themes as well to help keep things interesting.

*update now that I've read the whole series* The ending is REALLY good. Certainly worth a read for anyone who likes romantic comedy. I will be buying the japanese books to support the author.

This is one of my favorite manga of all time. Fun story, great characters, not too much fanservice. If only I could finish the manga...

I never really liked romance manga, but this story is surprisingly refreshing.
And it's realllyyy funny, which is the main criteria for any manga that I read.

If you love stupid random comedy mangas then this is definitely a highly recommended manga to read. I love the comedy in this and the mangaka really has some random sense of humor. I love that sayoko xD funny ass =p as well as that random cultish possesed school girl.

The story line so far seems pretty good and the characters are pretty well developed and described throughout the manga story. I suppose with 12 volumes its pretty long enough to fully develop characters.

Drawing is pretty good.. but to me the first few volumes were kinda.. sketchy or rather bit messy. but this is normal i suppose and later in the manga it gets better.

The manga however is definitely better than the anime. More volumes and time to fully develop the story, chars and more chapters for fillers to get you comfortable with the chars n stuff. Just that some people who watch the anime before the manga would prefer the anime but ah well its all up to taste. Hated the ending of the anime personally but thats another story so ill save it.

Overall this is a very interesting and funny manga to read. Though shiratori is kinda abit not my taste since he really is so weak and flimsy looking. But like what i said when i started off, this is a great comedy manga. funny and hey the scanlation did a good job providing a clean, clear scanlation of the manga so thumbs up to them =]

Ill give it a 8.5 overall but for comedy ill give it a 9 =]

This is one of those mangas which is somewhat more than it appears at first. It has a cute set of characters (beautifully drawn) and is overall a 'slice of life' manga, with a good dose of gentle humour, but it also has some dark and interesting undertones. Recommended.

The anime it was quite well done, and I gotta say that I got to know Mahoraba from there, but as it happens in various animes, it lacks a good closure. Since the anime was finished BEFORE the manga ended, then it was expected. The manga still has some storyline to get done, and I think it is quite noticeable that the manga storyline is better and the all the charachters, including the side-charachters are more well developed than the anime.

Still a very solid manga, but Shiratori wears weak-sauce cloaks that look too fugly and girly. Wait, he has no testicles to start with anyways. The other characters save his lack of manliness.
