The story is lacking

Note: I dropped this with volume 7.
I won't talk about the art here since many ppl have commented on this already (proportions, girly Ayase etc.). My problem is that I don't see any or only little character development with the protagonists. And I read up to volume 7(!!!).
Kanou is the tyrannical seme-type and although the readers get to see flashbacks about him the past doesn't really seem to influence his attitude towards Ayase at all, which IMO should be one major point. I don't know how far the authors want to draw out the story but with this important fact already known to the readers it is no wonder that the story is dragging at an unbearable pace. Moreover, I felt quite irritated and annoyed at the fact that Kanou was still as hard-headed and stubborn as in the beginning of the manga.
Ayase on the other hand... I can't really say. I find him to be too boring, too submissive, too innocent. Here also, at some point he should develop some new characteristics. Living with Kanou should have some sort of effect on him (except for becoming lewd). He could also use his brains sometimes to make Kanou soften up towards him. That would make their relationship much more interesting and it wouldn't be necessary to introduce so many other useless characters. Btw, Ayase getting to know new people is certainly a good idea but he should be more suspicious of them especially since they are Kanou's acquaintances.
Overall, the initial idea to the manga is alright but it's lacking a good story mostly due to missing any kind of character development. For a long-running series, that should be a death sentence but I've noticed, since we're in the yaoi genre even really bad series (worse than this) can get quite a lot of good ratings. I suspect though it's all thanks to the sex scenes and smut.
I am one of the few disappointed readers but since the majority (in Japan) seems to like the way the manga goes Shinozaki and Kousaka won't be likely to change the flow of the manga any time soon. Sadly...

Ok, Ayase does look like a girl, but I think he's adorable. The only thing I didn't like about the art, is the proportions: Ayase is sometimes the size of Kanou's leg (lol) and it's a little weird...
I actually like the story, and didn't find that it got stale at all. I mean, yes, it may seem that the plot is in a endless plot-loop or something, but I find myself focusing on the relationship itself: Kanou trying to get Ayase to accept and love him, and Ayase's personality growth.
All in all, i would say give it a try.
PS I love the twins lol

Like lynxs said, at first I really liked the art mostly because of Kanou. I thought Ayase looked...wierd. I mean--if you're going to draw a man that looks like a girl, you might as well make this a straight manga! Anyway, as the manga progressed, I couldn't get over the fact that Ayase looks too much like a chick. Also, the plot for the manga weakened; there was no climax and I think the author made Kanou too big and violent and Ayase too sweet and innocent. The story was going nowhere and...well, it was the end for me about reading this manga.
Hate it or love it?

Like what all my sempais said, it's depend.
I started to love it --i like the stereotype.
But as the story grows, the plot turn stale. it's repeating everything over and over again. in the end Kanou will come as superman and helped Ayase out. Ha! I thought it will be different from vol 5 up, but it still the same... and the newest plot just riddiculous.
I suggest you read the first part--it was a new plot since nobody else dared to put out a rape theme manga before. And i absolutely love this (until vol 5).
I dont know whether this counts as spoiler or not.

at first i read this, i was kinda excited. the art quite good (kanou okay but i'm a bit disturb with ayase though. i will like his eyes if it was a girl. but i dont like it when it belong to a male) , the sex scenes are hot. and i think the plot will get interesting too. so i continue to read it.
but then when it became obvious that their relationship will headed nowhere. just repeated over and over again. no signal of the development in both their character and relationship. i just give it up and dropped it.

I LOVE this manga..It's ONE OF MY FAVORITES and I don't think Ayase looks like a girl at all..I just think he's very delicate and there's NOTHING WRONG with a male being delicate..We live in a society that is going by the motto; "EVERYTHING GOES' be it, you a female or male..
I don't like the size of Kanou, and I think the artist to this manga should do a BETTER job at his size but other then that, it's a magnificent manga..Right up there with the classic..
Once again, I don't see why some READERS have to diss this manga?? It's NOT like some of those so called 'Shoujo or straight' manga's out there are really that MUCH BETTER and I've read some, and they're all very cliche, some to the point where it's just boring and pointless..

Since the very begining I didn't like this series, it's way too depressing and story just goes on without major changes.
On top of that, art is lame. (poor sense of proportion ¿?) ie. Ayase looks like a 10 yr old girl. (sick..!)
A lot of things have been said, but still this one simply made feel real bad.

You can pretty much know what's going to happen, despite the weird and annoying yakuza "real life" scenarios.

I like this Manga/Anime. it the first yaoi anime that i watch. I continue reading the manga and its awsome i like the drawing. (Ayase is soooo cute) The story line is good Kanou is a bit funny but he's also super scary (Evil, for raping Ayashe when he cant even stand). I can't wait for the nxt chapter.... I think Ayase & Kanou are made for each other. LOL
Not sure how I feel about this one....

I noticed that most people either love or hate this series, but I'm on the fence. There are some things that I absolutely love, like the art. I normally don't like "girly" ukes, but the contrast between Ayase and Kanou is nice. However, their enormous size difference takes away from it. It almost looks like kiddie porn, and that I hate. This story has a "Beauty and the Beast" feel to it, which I really like. However, the beast is really too despicable for me to like.
I really like the supporting characters (the twins and Kanou's childhood friend are priceless), but I don't really like Kanou. He's a brute who swears that he loves Ayase while forcing him over and over to do something that he's not comfortable with or happy about. That's rape. You don't rape someone that you love, no matter how much you want them, and are still considered to be a good person. It doesn't matter that it feels good to Ayase. He still says "NO". And that's still rape. Too many mangas treat rape as casually as a handshake, and that's not okay to me. Kanou's excuse that Ayase doesn't remember him, or that he helped Ayase out of a bad situation, or that Ayase really "likes it", are just that: Excuses. It still makes him a rapist scumbag who took advantage of someone's bad situation in order to harm them. He keeps using the word "love", but I doubt highly that the man knows what it means. I hope that he will learn as the series goes on, but it's been 8 volumes now, and he still treats Ayase the same way.
Ayase I like. He's cute and sweet, if just a tad bit dumb. I also feel terrible for him, because I think that if Kanou had behaved like a decent human being in the beginning (or at any point after), Ayase would have given him the love that he wanted and been happy. He doesn't deserve the treatment that he gets from Kanou, and he certainly didn't ask for him to come swooping in and take over his life, treat him like a sex toy, and keep him prisoner. I don't blame Ayase one bit for being miserable. Kanou treats him horribly and insists that it's out of love. Many fans of the series insist that Ayase owes Kanou for all that he's done. Some forum posters feel that Ayase owes Kanou love and that he should do more in bed for him. I think that Ayase has more than paid Kanou back. The arrangement that Kanou made with Ayase was for him to sleep with him until his debt was paid. Nowhere did he ask for (or deserve) Ayase's love. He isn't getting treated with love, so why should he give it? I do think that Ayase has feelings for Kanou, but Kanou makes it near impossible for Ayase to feel good about it. And reciprocating in bed is meant for real lovers, not one-sided sex or rape. I think that Ayase will reciprocate when and if he's ready.
The writing is very good, and interesting. The series does drag, and many chapters do nothing to further the plot, which can get annoying. There's quite a bit of comedy, which I like. The "How to Care for Small Animals" bit was adorable. I think that if that part had come *before* Kanou forced himself on Ayase, and that he had tried to follow it, I would have liked it more.
I almost don't want to see Kanou get Ayase because he doesn't deserve him. It would be nice to see Kanou grow up and start treating Ayase the way a loved one should be treated. I want to see Kanou become a man that deserves Ayase's love. If that happens, I will like the series much more. If the series continues in the long-held manga tradition of "raping until they like it", I will be miserably disappointed.

I normally hate this kind of yaoi, the drawings are terrible, and the plot too simple. But this one surprised me, in a good way. The story progresses in an interesting way, and the characters are fun to watch. Ayase is so stupid, in a cute innocent way, and Kanou is just as stupid just in an insenitive evil way.^^ They support eachother really good in the story, Kanou really tries to be nice to poor Ayase, but fails miserably, resulting in Ayase getting even more scared of him.
All in all, worth reading. I'm really picky when it comes to yaoi, but i really likes this one.^^
