Description

Se-Joon and Se-Wa are siblings with a dark, complex relationship. Se-Wa, a girl considered psychotic by others, is attached to her brother a little too attached. In her eyes, there is only Se-Joon and no one else. And what of Se-Joon's feelings?

Title comes from French poet Beaudelaire's compilation of poems, Les Fleurs du mal.

A mess

Flowers of Evil is a MANHWA about twins who are in love(?) with each other. The story is that these 2 brother and sister are in a very intimate relationship but the brother is getting sick of all the looks he gets from school and tries to distance himself as well as getting another lover. At the same time the sister is desperately trying to get his attention back whilst another dude tries to get with the sister. Basically its this love Apeirogon that is this constantly more and more anxiety filled as the series went on.

I mean the series is like ok. The issue is that every characters is like the worst person in the world. I mean every character. Everyone is trying to assault someone. Everyone trying to hurt someone and everyone is manipulating everyone its just this big cluster hell. All the characters have such an unlikable personality. Why does the author pretend anyone can be redeemed in this series i have no idea. Everyone in this series was Psychotic. The real contest was who was more psychotic? My problem with this is that with everyone being psychotic everyone has this really bad cookie cutter back story which is just ridiculous.

With that said i didn't per say hate the series. I was legitimately curious on far this series could push itself. and it went pretty far without feeling like the author is trying to stretch itself. So pacing was fine. Every chapter something happened. I guess the last chapter was rushed but endings usually are and i have a separate problem with the ending.

The ending was not good. Like i don't mind the events that occured. But how they occured was bad. Lack of emotional depth was an issue. And there was no buildup with the ending which is sad cuz i thought the build up was the better of this series.

Overall i just think this series was just not that good. I was gonna consider giving it a medicore score but now typing what i feel about this series its just a series where people make bad decisions. Its better than the author's other work Savage Garden but thats not an achievement. 4/10

That's the last line from Se Joon. It left me a big ?. The story is definitely dark and I really love it. Im so proud that Se Wa woke her senses up but sad because it happened to her.

You guys must read this. I hate incest stories but this one is an exception.

Get ready for real psycho characters. Another option is: Aku no Hana. These two series share the same title and although the stories are very different, both stories are pretty dark. No need to talk unnecessary. You want something dark, something WTF, then you are welcome.

The art was absolutely gorgeous but the story felt empty. When I read this I felt something despite how empty it was and I ended up crying at the end.
I've read this story like five times already and I always have the same reaction.

MU categorizes Flowers of Evil as romance but I wouldn't really call it a romance myself. I'd rather say its more about obsession.

Se-Joon is secretly obsessed/ in love-ish with Se-Wa but is afraid to show his emotions.He is afraid of what everyone else will say and think. Se-Wa is just confusing brotherly love with actual love since her brother secretly manipulates her into thinking she is in love with him.

I loved the art! It's gorgeous but the emotions could have been better portrayed. Hated the cliffy hanger lol, but I get what the author was trying to do. Overall, it was like a back and forth tug-of-war with these two. Its "I love you" one minute and the next its "I hate you."

Good emotional depth

Very dark, angsty series - which I love. It's not for those who are uncomfortable with incest because this manga takes it to a serious and thoughtful level. I think the mangaka thought out the scenes with plenty of foreshadowing, and I appreciate it. Reactions that make little sense or seem off in the beginning make perfect sense near the end. Manga is all about the angst and emotional drama. Just enjoy the ride.

Seh-wah did not romantically love Seh-joon. She was codependent on him. He isolated her on purpose, and he admits it. She was scared of being alone, and she was mentally unstable + emotionally stunted, resulting in her crazy obsession with her brother. She breaks out of this at the end when someone finally befriends her. Seh-joon, on the other hand, loved Seh-wah, and he knew that her crazy tantrums didn't mean that she romantically loved him. That's why he broke down on her and asked her if she knew what love really meant. He fought with himself the entire series. He loved her. He wanted to take her crazy obsession with him at face value but knew she did not actually feel the same way. He was deathly scared of condemnation from others. Seh-joon did NOT struggle with his own morals with concern to his love. He struggled with how other people would see it and the consequences for it. He was scared of what people would do if they found out. He was scared that God would punish him. Hence the frequent focus on his reactions when someone almost finds out something.

Not a romance. Well, the romance is more of a side dish and it was sincere only in

Sung-chan's arc . I was personally disgusted at some comments of 'oh how romantic' mostly from my friends. Because.it.is.not.romantic.

This is incest. This was Seh-joon manipulating everyone just to keep Seh-wa all to himself. The latter was young and naive - isolated from her peers because of a controlling twin. Sung-chan was completely right, Seh-wa mistook dependence for romantic love.

It was definitely sad, because I was really hoping that in some way all of them could be happy. Yes, even

Seh-joon still deserved to be happy. The characterization was nicely done such that all of them felt like real people with really dark problems. And the art, ho my gosh, the art - so gorgeous!

... but couldn't. The art is absolutely lovely, but the story is mediocre and draaaaaaaaaags on and on and on and on for way too long. I actually skipped ahead to the point where

Se Wah gets attacked with a box cutter by whatsherface and read to the end from there and it was STILL almost unbearably long.

Not to mention that it's kinda fucked up overall, and doesn't come to a happy resolution. The resolution is... satisfying... in that, while it's not what you hoped for, necessarily, it's sort of what you expected, so it's not super upsetting. That, and I was just so happy to finally be finished!!

I really wish Se Wah had ended up with Gi Hoon, though. Which is actually sort of surprising, for me, because I had expected to be rooting for Se Joon.
